CAMP INFORMATION The YMCA of Metro Chicago summer camps provide children with summer adventures that promote a healthy spirit, mind and body. Children spend time indoors and outdoors as experienced staff lead campers in a wide variety of activities each day, including creative art experiences, games, skits and songs, sports, instructional/recreational swimming and weekly offsite field trips.

In addition, the YMCA continues to incorporate its healthy kids curriculum into its summer camp programs. Children participate in weekly interactive workshops with doctors, dentists, nutritionists and athletes to gain basic knowledge on how to incorporate proper nutrition, exercise and positive self-images into their everyday lives. At the YMCA, our summer camps are ACAaccredited, which means we maintain the highest standards regarding program quality. We believe the most important elements of a positive summer camp experience are the safety and well-being of your child.

FIELD TRIPS Field trips will align with our specific weekly themes. For example, for our Jammin’ in the Jungle week, we may take a field trip to Serpent Safari. If the theme is World Explorers, we may take a field trip to Chinatown. We are intentional about taking the youth on field trips that are not only fun and enjoyable, but also offer an opportunity for learning and exploring.

There are always lifeguards on duty. There are counselors in the water with the children, as well as on deck. No child will go to the deep end unless they take the swimming test and pass. In order to swim, youth will need: • Swimsuit • Swim cap • Towel • Bag for wet belongings • Backpack

HEALTHY KIDS CAMP Each week, we include at least one structured YMCA health class activity in our schedule, at no additional cost to you, each week. Children also attend a health-related workshop once a week, as well as the daily integration of healthy activities, games and education. We also provide a healthy breakfast, lunch and snack to our campers. We ask that the campers do not bring any junk food or money for vending machines. We will provide water breaks throughout the day, but if you wish to send them with a water bottle to make sure they are hydrated, we would appreciate it.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

CHGO015

The Rauner Family YMCA has partnered with the Chicago Public Library’s Little Village Branch for their annual summer reading program, to foster academic success even while children are on vacation. Kids who read a certain number of minutes will earn a reader’s prize—previous prizes have included a t-shirt, books or bag. Weekly book raffles, author visits, performers and presenters are just some of the activities that are featured at Chicago Public Libraries throughout the summer.

ACTIVIDADES TEMAS SEMANALES

Since 1921, Camp Duncan has provided safe, quality camping programs for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 and Teen Adventure Camps for 15 to 17 year olds. All activities are geared to the developmental level of the campers. Camp Duncan is a co-ed, summer resident camp located near Fox Lake, Illinois, on 300 acres.

YMCA CAMP MACLEAN

Camp MacLean is located just two miles east of Burlington, Wisconsin, just 20 minutes from Lake Geneva, on 247 acres of woods and grassland property. The camp offers fun and challenging activities such as swimming, climbing, boating, kayaking, archery, hiking, and much more. We also leave room for plenty of traditional programs, including sing-alongs, campfires and campouts.

YMCA CAMP PINEWOOD

Traditional but up-to-date, Camp Pinewood features 16 cabins on a private, spring-fed lake, with every activity from sailing to horseback riding. The camp is nestled in the heart of the Manistee National Forest near Muskegon, Michigan. It’s convenient but remote enough to ensure that everyone enjoys the natural beauty of the camp’s 200-acre facility.

YMCA FAMILY CAMP NAWAKWA

Family Camp Nawakwa offers a unique experience- an opportunity to bring together whole families, not just children, through camping. The camp sits on 180 acres of pristine forest lands, and includes wetlands and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

YMCA CAMP INDEPENDENCE

CHGO015

Camp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida. At camp, kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group. We teach self-reliance, a love for nature, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character. Our counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
