WELCOME Summer camp brings back many memories and stories to campers young and old. It is a powerful experience that can strengthen the values that parents are teaching daily to their children. YMCA Summer Camps provide unique quality adventures each day that will fill your child’s summer with action and adventure. Here’s a list of the most important reasons to send your kids to camp. • Camp is action. Today’s youth spend so much time sitting in front of a screen. Camp provides a wonderful opportunity to move. • Camp teaches kids that they can. School days are filled with academic, athletic and social competition. Camp is filled with non-competitive activities and diverse opportunities to succeed. •C amp helps conquer fears. Youth are encouraged and nurtured at camp, making it a great environment to endure setbacks, try something new and see that improvement comes when you give something another try. •C amp is real. When kids step away from TV, cell phones and the internet, they find their creative powers and become involved in the real world with real people, real activities and real emotions. • Camp expands every child’s abilities. At camp, kids are given the instruction, tools and opportunities to enhance their skills at sports, art, orienteering and much more. • Camp helps kids develop who they are. At camp children are encouraged to make decisions for themselves in a safe, caring environment. This helps children to blossom in new directions. • Camp builds teamwork. Campers learn social skills that help them learn to get along and work together even when you disagree. • Camp gets kids back outside. Camp is a wonderful antidote to “nature deficit disorder.” Outdoor experiences enrich child’s perception of the world and supports healthy development. • Camp creates friendships. The fun at camp draws everyone together — singing, laughing, talking, playing and doing. Use this camp catalog as your one-stop source for planning and scheduling safe and fun summer days with the YMCA for your children. The Y offers a large selection of camp experiences for boys and girls ages 4-16.

Having good manners and valuing others. •R ESPONSIBILITY: Always do your best. Be accountable for your choices.

Summer Adventure Explorers is a perfect way to help young campers have a great summer while preparing for kindergarten. Camp includes age-appropriate sports, nature projects, hands-on science, art, dance, weekly swim lesson and swim trip and weekly field trip with Trailblazers Campers. The staff working with Explorers have been chosen for their skills in working with children in this age group, their ability to positively engage campers, and their commitment to working with children today and in the future as teachers, social workers and more. Campers need to bring a healthy snack, sack lunch and non-spill water bottle every day. Children must be potty trained to attend.

We offer enriching activities that meet all interests and personalities. We offer weekly specialty clubs where campers can choose from an array of different skills to build upon; we explore the arts through music, creative art experiences, and drama; we enjoy physical activity with games and specific skill building; and we work to support campers growth and empower interpersonal and teamwork skills through an array of activities. Location Celebration! Community Life Center 919 S. Washington Street, Naperville Our camp provides a safe and social atmosphere for our pre-teen and teen campers. Our goal is to offer a summer full of fun and exciting new experiences, so your child won’t feel like they are in a day camp but like they have an opportunity to socialize and hang out with friends, too. Their summer will be packed full of leadership opportunities, new experiences and the exploration of building skills through relevant and fun activities. We offer weekly specialty club options where campers can choose from an array of different skills to build and learn upon. Our days also consist of team-building activities, community service and Destination Imagination, which teaches youth the creative process and empowers them with the skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Unique to our great location, our Voyagers always look forward to the occasional walking trip to downtown naperville to enjoy lunch on the riverwalk. We are also excited to enhance our summer programming through our partnership with the Naperville Public Library. FRY FAMILY YMCA The Fry Family YMCA summer day camps keep campers engaged, safe, healthy and learning. At the Fry Y, we focus on your child as a whole, including sports, swimming instruction, exploration of the community and developing lifelong friendships. We emphasize seamlessly weaving literacy, math and science into our weekly schedules, preventing summer learning loss and making sure our camp kids are ready to return to school in the fall. Above all, we focus on making summer fun!

ZOOFARI CLUB WITH ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

KINDERGARTEN CAMP WITH ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Zoofari Club is for children in pre-K to introduce them to an amazing summer camp experience as well as refresh what they already know from their preschool experience or to expose them to a new kind of learning environment.

Kindergarten Camp is a perfect way to help young children transition into their future school experience. Children will practice listening skills, conflict resolution, sharing and independence skills within our daily activities. Kindergarten Camp includes age-appropriate sports, nature projects, art, dance, swimming and one field trip a week with Safari Club Campers. We strive to create exciting activities while providing a safe and fun learning environment.

(4 Years Old, Entering Kindergarten in Fall 2018)

As if going to camp wasn’t enough fun, Zoofari Club is overflowing with activities such as learning new interactive outdoor games, making fun and easy creative art experiences, enjoying a special guest or in-house field trip and making new friends while learning to socialize independently. Your 4-year-old will also play with the sensory/water tables, learn new songs and most of all have fun with other preschoolers they may already know! Campers need to bring a non-peanut lunch in an insulated lunch bag, 2 healthy snacks and a water bottle daily. Every camper will receive two camp t-shirts. Additional camp t-shirts are available for a fee. T-shirts are distributed the first day of camp. Zoofari Club is held in an air-conditioned preschool classroom with easy access to the outdoor playground. Please email the Fry Early Learning Center at frypreschool@ymcachicago.org for more information or visit our Camp website at fryymca.org.

Looking for an overnight, resident camp experience for your child or your family this summer? The YMCA of Metro Chicago has five resident camp options in beautiful pristine areas sure to provide special memories to last a lifetime.

YMCA CAMP DUNCAN

Since 1921, Camp Duncan has provided safe, quality camping programs for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 and Teen Adventure Camps for 15 to 17 year olds. All activities are geared to the developmental level of the campers. Camp Duncan is a co-ed, summer resident camp located near Fox Lake, Illinois, on 300 acres.

YMCA CAMP MACLEAN

Camp MacLean is located just two miles east of Burlington, Wisconsin, just 20 minutes from Lake Geneva, on 247 acres of woods and grassland property. The camp offers fun and challenging activities such as swimming, climbing, boating, kayaking, archery, hiking, and much more. We also leave room for plenty of traditional programs, including sing-alongs, campfires and campouts.

YMCA CAMP PINEWOOD

Traditional but up-to-date, Camp Pinewood features 16 cabins on a private, spring-fed lake, with every activity from sailing to horseback riding. The camp is nestled in the heart of the Manistee National Forest near Muskegon, Michigan. It’s convenient but remote enough to ensure that everyone enjoys the natural beauty of the camp’s 200-acre facility.

YMCA FAMILY CAMP NAWAKWA

Family Camp Nawakwa offers a unique experience- an opportunity to bring together whole families, not just children, through camping. The camp sits on 180 acres of pristine forest lands, and includes wetlands and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

YMCA CAMP INDEPENDENCE

CHGO013

Camp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida. At camp, kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group. We teach self-reliance, a love for nature, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character. Our counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
