SWIM LESSONS

This winter, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculum will help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, having fun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpful resources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process. Due to the new Y lesson format, there will be no make up lessons. When signing your child up for swim lessons, all you have to do is choose the appropriate age range: • Parent/Child (6 months to 3 years) • Preschool (3-5 years) • School Age (5-12 years)

CHGO018

Then, on the first day of class, the instructor will determine which of the following skill levels your child will begin in. From there, they’ll progress up through the levels at their own pace.

(Ages 6 Months To 3 Years)

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through this program, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies. This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children ages 6 months to 3 years of age. The general goals of the program are: • To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and their own skills with parents’ help • To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, and body control or balance • To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water and movements in response to visual and verbal cues • To have fun in the water using toys and flotation devices and interacting with other children • To emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents • To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and an opportunity to build the parent/child relationship

Level 2: Water Movement In this class, children are taught skills that focus on body position and control, forward movement and directional change. This stage also reinforces how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. The general goals of the class are: • To encourage children to propel themselves and glide through water • To develop basic water safety skills in the form of jump, push, turn and grab, and swim-float-swim Level 3: Water Stamina In this class, children focus on swimming longer distances and are introduced to rotary breathing, integrated rotary breathing and integrated arm and leg action. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Whether you’re currently taking swim lessons or thinking about taking them, private swim lessons may be just what you need. If feel you or your child have become stagnant in your swim growth, or maybe just need a few pointers on your stroke, private swim lessons can get you there. • Convenient times: Our instructors can work out a schedule that works for you. • One-on-one: Swimmers will receive individual attention and stay active the entire time. • Buddy Lessons: Do you have two kids who’d like to take lessons together? We have options for that, too! • Lessons for Everyone: Available for individuals of all ages and abilities. How do you sign up? Visit our membership desk and fill out a form. If you have a specific instructor you’d like to work with, be sure to include their name. For more information, call 773.326.2563.

PORPOISE SWIM CLUB Porpoise Swim Club The Porpoise level differs from other levels in that the format allows older children and teens the opportunity to develop a program that fits their interests.
