EARLY LEARNING & CHILD CARE PRESCHOOL FUN DAYS Preschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in the world of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our programs provide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships. Y programs encourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensory experiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and foster a love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science as they develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

Youth Super Fun Days (Ages 5-12) The Indian Boundary YMCA provides activities and trips for school age youth when school is not in session. Each day is filled with swimming, field trips and adventure. Children will meet new friends, have new experiences and have fun! Our goal is to provide a program that is convenient for parents and provides them with peace of mind knowing that their child is well cared for. Hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Youth Super Fun Days are determined by the District 58 Calendar. 2016 Dates: October 10-11 November 10-11, 23, 25 December 19-23, 26-30

Children are natural engineers, they are constantly asking questions and imagining new ideas. Most of all, children LOVE LEGOS! The primary goal of Lego at the Y is to engage children in basic engineering challenges and teach engineering concepts which can be a difficult subject to target. Our theme building sessions are designed to give our Y Kids a foundation for understanding concepts that they will dive deeper into in years to come for now...they get to build REALLY COOL FUN STUFF! Additionally, practicing 21st Century Skills including collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, and digital literacy should be a part of a student’s daily curricula. It is imperative and a HUGE challenge. The Indian Boundary YMCA Project Based STEM Camp offers a learning unit that encourages students to be creative by imagining, inventing, implementing, and improving their own ideas while collaborating with their peers. We believe that project based learning is a MUST. The collaborative style of project based STEM learning guarantees that 21st Century Skills are incorporated and provides opportunities and experiences for children to broaden their worldviews, encourage them to think critically, be proactive, take risks, and put what they are learning into practice. Most of all it’s FUN! How It Works: The project based STEM unit will involve a series of brainstorming sessions followed by hands-on activities. Time frames will be adjusted to meet participants’ needs. Specific STEM tie-ins are provided for each activity and there will also be an opportunity for parent support. CHGO07

SWIM LESSONS & SWIM TEAMS

CHGO07

This winter, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculum will help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, having fun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpful resources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process. Due to the new Y lesson format, there will be no make up lessons.

When signing your child up for swim lessons, all you have to do is choose the appropriate age range: • Parent/Child (6 months to 3 years) • Preschool (3-5 years) • School Age (5-12 years) Then, on the first day of class, the instructor will determine which of the following skill levels your child will begin in. From there, they’ll progress up through the levels at their own pace.

B: Swim Starters: Water Exploration In this class, parents are guided to work with their child to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. The general goals of the program are: • To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and their own skills with parents’ help • To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, and body control or balance

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS

• To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water and movements in response to visual and verbal cues

(AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)

• To have fun in the water using toys and flotation devices and interacting with other children

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through this program, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies. This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children ages 6 months to 3 years of age. Levels in this phase include: A: Swim Starters: Water Discovery Parents accompany children in this class, which introduces babies and parents to the aquatic environment through exploration that encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water: • To encourage developmentally appropriate expectations by parents of babies enrolled in water enrichment programs • To introduce and emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents • To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and an opportunity to build the parent/child relationship • To provide parents and children the opportunity to share common experiences, socialize, and interact with one another

YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUES

CLASS

In our leagues, athletes play equal time, with positive competition and family involvement. In addition to developing your child’s athletic ability and sportsmanship, our programs emphasize the Y’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Come watch your child’s skills and character develop in one of our youth sports leagues featured below. Winter Basketball Leagues Did you know that the YMCA invented basketball? We continue to be committed to teaching your child the fundamentals of basketball, while competing in a fun and friendly environment! The Y Youth Basketball League is the perfect fit for you and your family. Our leagues are focused on developing your child's skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. Teams will have experienced and trained coaches for all age levels. All teams will have one practice a week and one game a week with a playoff tournament at the end of the year (8 games, plus playoffs). Winter Floor Hockey Leagues Our instructors can’t wait to teach the fundamentals of stick handling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. Floor Hockey requires excellent hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes and good decision making. Developing these skills and more will give your child a great athletic foundation that will easily translate to other sports. As with all of our sports, our trained instructors will also spend time building character and confidence that your child can carry throughout all aspects of their lives. Winter Volleyball Leagues Bump into the game! YMCA Youth and Adult Volleyball Leagues where participants will have the opportunity to explore interests through recreational and competitive play. Youth and teens will concentrate on developing fundamentals and passion, while Adults can take part in fun-filled, competitive matches! Futsal (Winter Indoor Soccer) This is a free flowing game that allows players to experiment, execute and learn various soccer skills that are realistic to the game. Building off of our player development curriculum, futsal will also develop higher levels of athleticism, awareness, problem solving, enjoyment, and competition. The real beauty of this game is that players learn and discover how to play soccer by actually playing soccer, using trial and error, and having a good time doing it.
