In Y Adventure Guides & Y Trailblazers, parents lead, influence and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. They lead by example as they set their children on a path through life. Programs run August-May.

NEW PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT Fit and Fun Bring your child to the YMCA for a fun time of gym, fitness, swim lessons, art and to meet new children their age to enrich their lives. Preschool Lunch Bunch Bring a packed lunch and join other preschoolers for our lunch bunch hour. Preschools will enjoy lunch with their friends! Preschool Lunch Bunch is a great option to add to Fit & Fun! Animals A to Z Preschoolers have a natural curiosity and love of animals. Children are introduced to creatures great and small, and learn about where and how they inhabit the earth. The class also helps foster a desire to take care of the earth and protect the many different animal habitats. Lessons will have a little bit of all your child’s favorite activities; art, music, science and stories! Art Exploration Creative expression is the name of the game in this art class! Children will create works of art as they learn and practice techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture and more. This class will introduce several concepts in a fun, hands-on, ageappropriate way, including color, form, texture, dimensions and so much more. I Dig Dinosaurs Join us as we travel back to the land of dinosaurs! If your child loves dinosaurs, then this is the perfect class. We will excavate dinosaur bones, make fossils, distinguish between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores and learn about the giant lizards of the past. Junior Chefs This program will bring out the junior master chef in your child. Children will enjoy making several tasty treats each week that even the pickiest eater will enjoy. Through hands on recipes, children learn cooking can be fun and nutritious. Little Builders Let your little one delve into the limitless world of building. This camp will explore different mediums for creating projects out of Legos®, wood, and nature. Little Scientists Your child loves to discover because kids are natural “little scientists”. Let’s build the curiosity for the world they live in with this experimentation class. Children will do hands-on activities and experiments to learn about the world of science.

KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENT & AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURES Kindergarten Enrichment If you’re looking for a fun-filled experience for your kindergartner that provides a balance of classroom and large motor activities, then the Y’s Kindergarten Enrichment program is for you! Children will enjoy learning through academic-based activities such as arts and crafts, calendar time, sensory stations, dramatic play, group storytime and much more. Students will also experience a wide variety of large motor skills that include swim lessons, tumbling, park adventures, ice skating, gym and open swim. All participants are picked up from Elmhurst District 205 schools and provided a healthy, hot lunch and afternoon snack.

Calling all teens! Want to plan service projects for great causes, hang out with friends at social events, travel and have fun while making a difference in the world? Then join Teen Leader’s Club at the Elmhurst Y! Teen Leaders Club members will work together on different volunteer projects, fundraisers and social events; attend trainings and rallies, all while building experience and making a difference. Our School Days Out options are designed to engage children in healthy physical activity and foster positive social interactions. This winter, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculum will help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, having fun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpful resources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process. Due to the new Y lesson format, there will be no make up lessons.

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through this program, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies. This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children ages 6 months to 3 years of age. PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS (AGES 3-5 YEARS) Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, these stages build upon a foundation of water safety and drowning prevention by teaching water adjustment and swim-readiness skills through fun and creative activities. Levels in this phase include: Level 1: Water Acclimation The water acclimation class introduces swimmers to the pool and helps them develop safe water habits. Children develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the child’s future progress in swimming. Level 5: Stroke Development In this class, students continue to work on their stroke technique and all major competitive strokes are introduced. The goals of the program include:

SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS


GOLDFISH SWIMMING PROGRAM Goldfish swimming lessons are for participants who need more individualized attention and practice time. This 3-to-1 ratio class uses equipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance. Class instructors are trained adaptive aquatics instructors with experience teaching mainstream, semi-private and private classes for individuals with special needs. TEEN & ADULT SWIM LESSONS Teen & Adult Beginner This class is for teens and adults who have little-to-no swim experience. The instructor will work with you, both as a group and one-on-one. Participants will learn to swim basic front crawl, elementary backstroke, floating and proper breathing techniques.

Teen & Adult Intermediate This class is for teens and adults who have experience with swimming, but need to work on endurance. Participant should be comfortable in the water, be able to float on their front and back, and swim 25 feet front crawl and back crawl. Participants will learn how to swim proper front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke and breaststroke.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Private and Semi Private Lessons: Choose from our variety of packages offered. Packages are designed for ages 3 and up, and can be private or semi private. Volleyball Clinic Participants will learn and develop the fundamentals of volleyball: Serving, passing, setting and game strategy/formations, during scrimmages. Floor Hockey Learn the fundamentals of floor hockey and play games at the end of each class. Sports Fusion Class Your child will be introduced and learn the basic fundamentals of several sports: basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, floor hockey, and pickleball. Sport Speed & Agility Your athlete will learn how to develop and increase their speed, balance, coordination, core stability, endurance and overall athletic movement control. Winter Basketball (YBall) Did you know that the YMCA invented basketball? We continue to be committed to teaching children the fundamentals of basketball, while competing in a fun and friendly environment! The Y Youth Basketball League is the perfect fit for you and your family. Our leagues are focused on developing your child's skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. Teams will have experienced and trained coaches, with IHSAcertified referees for every game, for all age levels. All teams will have one practice a week and one game a week, with a playoff tournament at the end of the year. Estimated 10-14 total games. Season starts the first week of January with the end of year tournament on March 12. Season Details: Each team will have one, one hour practice each week and one, one hour game on either Saturday or Sunday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at a local elementary, middle or high school gym. Times and dates for practice and games will vary depending on teams and coaches schedule. High School Teams (NEW!) All High School Teams will now practice and play games at York High School! Winter Travel Basketball for Grades 3-5 and 6-8 Please contact the Sports Director, Nick Cronin, if you are interested in joining the Travel League. The Travel League teams will compete against surrounding YMCA Travel Teams in our region. With one, one hour practice during the week and one, one-hour game on either Saturday or Sunday at a local middle or high school gym. YBall Events (NEW!) Participants can register and compete in our end of the year 3 Point Contest, 3 on 3 Tournament and Coaches VS Players tournament: (3 Separate events). Coed Spring Flag Football A great way to learn the game of football without the contact. Players will learn a variety of skills including but not limited to blocking, catching, running, learning plays and flag pulling. This league is offered to grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6. All practices and games will be on Sunday. Practices are 45 minutes long, followed by a one-hour game: Registration begins January 1, 2017. Synchronized Swimming This class combines rhythmic swimming and gymnastics in the water - all set to music. Must be able to swim 25 yards on front and back. Water Sports This program is for youth and teens ages 9-13 that are looking for pool fun outside of swim lessons. Water Sports will take the skills developed during swim lessons and apply them in aquatic recreation, including but not limited to fitness sports and in-house fun competitions. *Must be able to swim without a swim aid and pass the deep-water swim test.

AMERICAN SAFETY AND HEALTH INSTITUTE BABYSITTER’S TRAINING

Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard? Here’s your chance! Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer; certification is good for 2 years. Calling all preteen and teenagers who like or want to babysit! The Elmhurst YMCA is offering the American Safety and Health Institute Babysitter’s Training Program for 11-17 year olds. You will learn how to hold infants and children, diaper, and feed infants and children. We will also go over basic first aid skills and learn how to recognize emergencies. Additionally, you will learn how to create a resume, interview parents, and run a business. Classes will be held in March & June; dates and times are to be determined.
