Our Child Watch areas are free for members with a family plan. An adult must remain in the building and there is a 2-hour time limit. Children ages 8 weeks through 7 years are welcome. Downtown Kerasotes

PAL Service is available at the Downtown Y to assist parents with children in Y programs. The Y provides parents with a “PAL” to escort a child from one program or class to another while the parent is involved in their own Y program. Please fill out a request form available online or at the front desk.
Parent Night Out at Kerasotes (ages 2-12)
Our youngest members are an active bunch. Parents need a break. We get it at the Y, so we offer Parent Night Out. PNO is the first Saturday of each month during the school year (unless it falls on a holiday) from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Kerasotes Child Watch Room. Your kids will play, dance, and enjoy story time, and they can do it all in their pajamas. Kids ages 8-12 will swim from 7-8pm. Pizza available $1/slice. ARTS17, $10 Member $20 Public Spring PNO Dates: April 1, May 6. PNO will resume in September.
Kids Night Out Downtown (ages 8-12)
All kids need a little time away from their parents, so we offer Kids Night Out. We won’t tell your child that you are getting a break too. Kids have an awesome time and parents have time to themselves. Activities run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and include swimming, art, Downtown Youth & Family Center Our Downtown Youth & Family Center is free to members. It games, dance and more! Don’t forget a little spending is a safe and fun place for youth to interact, play and meet money for the concession stand. KNO is held the second Saturday of each month during the school year new friends. Children ages 1 to 5 may also use the at the Downtown branch. Youth & Family Center with an adult. Children ages 6 and 7 may be in the Youth & Family Center with an adult in the KNO17, $10 Member, $20 Public KNO will begin again in September. The only KNO in branch. Kerasotes Youth Activities
The Kerasotes branch has activities for youth members ages 8-18. In addition to our Child Watch, our safe and spacious lobby area is a great place for kids to meet new friends. It is staffed with a youth coordinator who plays board games, does crafts and monitors our video game station. We also have designated supervised group games in our lobby area to keep all our youth active and engaged. Our youth game time is Monday-Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for youth ages 8-14. The Youth Lobby Area is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., M-F when school is out per the standard District 186 calendar.

Chatham, Riverton, Rochester and Sherman The Y offers afterschool programs for children in kindergarten through 5th or 6th grade in Chatham, Riverton, Rochester and Sherman. We also offer a before school program at Chatham Glenwood Elementary Activities include homework assistance, crafts and group games. School Days Out
When District 186 cancels school, the Y makes every effort to provide programming for children in grades K-6. We provide a safe place for children to come and have fun. Drop-off begins at 7 a.m. and activities (arts/ crafts, group play, and games) are planned from 9 a.m.4 p.m. Children must be picked up by 6 p.m. Fee is required at registration. SDO registration forms will be available on our website and in our branches when the program is offered. This program is located at the Downtown branch.
Gym & Swim (ages 1-2; Parent/Child Class) Children enjoy social time, games, songs and bonding with parents. Gym activities allow children to develop coordination, balance, flexibility and body awareness. Party Packages and Rentals
For more information about our party packages, room rentals, fees, or to reserve a date, please call Jill at 217-544-9846, ext. 136 Downtown or 217-679-1625 Kerasotes. Birthday Party Packages Our Ys are wonderful places for a birthday party. The Y staff knows a little something about how to have fun with groups of children! Each branch offers party packages. Parties are held in two-hour increments. Tables and chairs are provided. Renters are responsible for room decorations and party supplies. Groups must bring their own food and drink and refrigeration is not available. Adult to child ratio must be 1:5. Group Parties The Downtown branch is the perfect place for a party with family and friends, your school, church or work group! We offer packages that include activities such as dancing, basketball, swim or use of the Youth and Family Center for your group or team. Y Overnights The Downtown branch is a great place for a family, church group or organization to spend Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights. Activities available include basketball, swimming, racquetball, volleyball and use of the large multipurpose room and Youth and Family Center for alternative activities. Reservations should be made a minimum of two weeks in advance and can be made as far as one year in advance. Room Rentals Various rooms are available to rent for small and large group meetings, conferences or seminars. Pool Rentals Y pools are available to rent for group or private use on an hourly basis at the discretion of the Y and for approved events only. Our child-oriented pools have age restrictions. Youth Fitness Center Rental A Youth Exergame Party is offered with private party space and private access to the new Youth Fitness Center at the Downtown Branch. The Youth Fitness Center features Exergames T-Wall, Heavy Ball, 3 Kick and Jump Q. Exergames can be programmed for individuals, groups, teams and competition. Youth ages 5-13 years may use the space. Wa-Kon-Tah Rental We are offering rental opportunities at our beautiful 26-acre campground site on Lake Springfield. From large birthday parties and family gatherings to team building retreats, we have a great alternative. Our lodge has a spacious room with tables, benches, and a fireplace. You may also enjoy the great outdoors, making use of picnic tables, playing your favorite sports or games,walking our nature trails or hosting a meeting by the lakefront. Projects will include basket weaving, fabric sculpture, crochet and more! Join us on a journey to learn the Spanish language! These are introductory classes in which participants will learn to listen to and speak entry-level Spanish. Learning another language is not only a practical life skill, it also encourages openness to new experiences and furthers appreciation of another culture. Flag Football Run, pass, catch, and score! Flag football is a spring recreational, non-contact sport in a fun and instructional atmosphere. The league games are held at University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday mornings April 8th through May 20th. Register before March 17th! YS17, $41 Member, $59 Public Spring Recreational Soccer (ages 4 - 14) The Springfield Y has been running the largest Y league in downstate Illinois since 1975. This is a coed league. Teams are formed by elementary schools and neighborhoods. Games are played on soccer fields located at UIS and begin April 14th. Our sports office is located at the Downtown branch. Early Bird Special is January 30 - February 27. The deadline to register for the Spring Soccer Session is March 17. Families may receive multiple child discounts. The Y Adapted Physical Education staff is dedicated to meeting the special needs of those persons with mental or physical disabilities. This group continues to send members to the Special Olympics, returned with many medals and great memories. Ramps and guides are provided. Participants may bowl at no charge. Tae Kwon Do (beginner & intermediate classes, ages 5+) Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. The techniques blend several ancient self-defense systems into a single dynamic one. SNAP is a specialized swim lesson program targeting individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other special needs. Participation must be approved by the Aquatic Director. SNAP lessons run in conjunction with Y program calendar. This program is supported through grants making it affordable to all participants. Partipants are encouraged to progress to group lessons and SNAP competitive!

How do I earn FREE lifeguard training?
TRAIN TO WORK!
Commit to work for the Y, and have your training fee waived! Turn in a lifeguard job application with your Lifeguard Training Registration Form (www.springfieldymca.org or either branch), and your lifeguard training fees will be waived! In order for the waived fee to stand, the applicant must be hired and must work at least 500 hours as a Lifeguard for the YMCA of Springfield, IL, starting at the completion of training.
• Increase muscle strength: The resistance of the pool can range from 4 to 42 times greater than air. • Build endurance: Water resistance is natural resistance that requires the body to move through the water rather than against it. • Increase flexibility: By adjusting the body in various directions and pushing and pulling the water, the joints naturally increase their range of motion. • Lessen impact and pressure on joints: Water creates buoyancy which helps lessen the amount of pressure placed on joints. • Burn calories: The combination of strength and cardio workouts mixed with water resistance ensures that the body gets a full workout without breaking a sweat. Depending on activity and other factors, the body can burn between 400 and 500 calories in an hour. • Reduce stress and anxiety: Watching and being in bodies of water in motion can be extremely soothing. • Make lasting friendships: Water fitness is popular and a great place to meet new friends that often develop into lasting relationships!

WATER FITNESS Water Aerobics
Water exercise is a great way to burn calories without putting extra stress on your joints. The ability to swim is not necessary for participation and classes are offered at varying levels of intensity. Arthritis: The Arthritis Foundation Y Aquatic Program is designed to provide the opportunity for people with arthritis to participate in a recreational group activity. The water provides buoyancy to help support joints, decrease pain and/ or stiffness and help improve/maintain joint flexibility. Deep Water Exercise: This class offers exercises in deep water. Participants will not able to touch and flotation belts are used. Exercises are moderate to high intensity. Aqua Chi: This class will leave you feeling relaxed! Stretching, breathing, and relaxation skills are practiced. Aqua Dance: This is an aerobics class with all the fun of dancing! Participants enjoy Latin dance moves with the added resistance of water for low impact on joints.

SilverSneakers Classic Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a Silver Sneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. SilverSneakers Yoga Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Lose Big Challenge This is a 12 week weight loss program for inidviduals who are willing to push themselves and want to begin a path to a healthy lifestyle change. The program is designed to guide new exercisers. This is a seasonal program and runs during certain times of the year. FIT17 Total Body Transformation Join us for this new, popular 90 day intense weightlifting program that will completely transform your body. Personal Training At the Y, motivation, structure, results and progression are the cornerstones of a great personal training program. We know at times your personal health and wellness program needs a jump start or new challenge. We also understand there are times when you feel like you have hit a plateau or your goals change! Enter our affordable personal training program. Our trainers are nationally accredited with certifications in: ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, or a Kinesiology degree. Our personal training program offers: • Individual training • Partner training • Group (3-5 participants) training A group may be your family, friends, or coworkers. We offer one-hour sessions and for those who have limited time, 30-minute high intensity sessions. Wellness Session Let one of our Wellness Coaches put you on the best path to reach your personal goals. Work one-on-one with a Wellness Coach for 45 minutes and learn what you want to know about any or all of our three fitness areas. We will take the intimidation factor of exercise equipment away by having our trained staff take you through our Strive and Life Center stations and other machines. Our staff will help you set up the machines correctly, ensure proper usage for the most effective results, and answer questions about the cardiovascular equipment. The whole family can workout and have fun together at these free fitness offerings: Kids Zumba (Kerasotes) Zumba Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Youth Yoga (Kerasotes) Another offering in our youth group exercise series, this class for 8-12 year olds is designed to strengthen growing bodies, enhance concentration, increase selfesteem, enhance body awareness and teach discipline and responsibility.

This past year supporters of our mission generously donated $299,354 to the Strong Kids Scholarship Fund. This fund is used to supplement youth and family memberships, programming for underpriveledged children, weeks at summer camp, and programming for those who are differently abled. We share the stories we have permission to share, but we can’t always share every story. We share many photos of smiling children, but we can’t always share every photo.

Register online at www.springfieldymca.org or at the front desk at either branch for Y classes and programs. Join the Y within 30 days of paying non-member fees and receive a credit for the difference between your nonmember and member rate to be applied to your joining fee. Lightning Policy: The Springfield YMCA closes its indoor pools when lightning is within a 6 mile radius of the branch. We monitor weather information during inclement weather. Due to the distance between our branches, one Y may have pools that are open when the other Y is closed. In an effort to reduce any inconvenience to our members, the Y notifies of closing via our Facebook page, Twitter, and our smart phone app push notifications. We will post closings as quickly as possible. If there are storms in the area, we recommend you check one of these resources or call either branch before heading to the Y for a swim.

There are no make-up classes, credits or refunds for missed classes or changes in a child/families personal schedule. Exceptions will be made for those participants with medical emergencies. Documentation may be requested. The Y reserves the right to cancel a class due to low participation. In the event this happens, registrants will receive a full refund. If the YMCA cancels a program due to staff or facility difficulties, the Y will provide a credit for the missed class on members’ accounts. Credits will expire in 12 months. If the YMCA cancels a class/program due to inclement weather, the Y will not issue a credit for the first occurrence within a session. The Y will provide a credit on members accounts for subsequent occurrences within a single session. Credits on member accounts will expire after 12 months. Credits will not be issued for sport leagues/programs held at outdoor fields; however, the Y will provide make up games for weather cancellations as often as possible. Request to withdraw from a class/program for refund must be submitted one week prior to the first class/game. After the second class within a session, there will be no participant transfers. Classes are not held on holidays, special event or swim meet dates when the Y facilities are closed. Classes effected by YMCA holiday/event closings are prorated prior to payment.
