Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

There are there types of digitalfabriction technique that Kolerevic described. -Subtractive methods -Additive methods -Transformative methods The first one, subtractive methods include laser cutting and CNCmillinhg. These machiness operate using 3-5 axes to control the poosition of a cutting tool and burns or carves away specific areas of the material. The second one, additive mthods are the 3D printing, which using a head that extrudes a material and layers it to build up an object. The position of the 3D printer’s head is controlled in the x, y and z axes by a computer. The last one, transformation methods use CNC machinery to pin a material in place and bend or reshape it to a desired form. This method of fabrication can be used to produce complex double-curve forms and to reshape a material into any desired shape.

Week Three

Surface Creation

These are my surface and panel. I contact Grasshopper for the first time and feel more interesting and simple than Paneling tools in Rhino.

Week Four Panels & Waffle

This my panelled surface. They are 5 by 5 grids. One of them is 2d panel, and another is 3d panel. 2D panel has the blank space to make the light come in. And also, 3D panel, in each grid, has four triangles, which has different orientations, so the panel has a rich shadow.

This is my Waffle Structure.

Week Four

Laser Cutting

This is the laser cutting abou my Waffle Structure. When I was dong it, I did not have lots of problems. However, one thing was about my 3D panel. It has lots of triangles and always no way to unroll. (My panel laser cutting in P11)

Week Five

They are my boolean forms. I tried two shapes, including a sphere and a cone. At first, I had a very simple way of thinking, and all the steps were followed by the teacher. When my 3D printing came out, I found that there were all kinds of things that could be done, which could be very abstract, so I tried the tripyramid again.

Week Five

Isometric

I am using the southwest direction in isometric . This makes my 3D model like cheese very much, which looks very interesting. I have cut the model eight times, which is about 1/6 of the original cube. At the same time, some hollow spheres are interlaced with each other and have different small Spaces, and their hadows are very different. The lager circles are to provide the people come in and out. The small circles arrounding the outside make the light comes in and people can watch outside.

Task 01 Matrix At first, I did a lot of lofts. They are all very interesting, but not each of them can make a model, for example, the ground is unstable, the surface is too tortuous, or too formal. I dislike formal very much.So, I tried a lot at the end, and found it with twists and turns and good stability. I also chose the last one, which will be more beautiful. Moreover, the 3D panel I designed has lots of angles, so I designed a 2D panel to balance my model. It does not look too messy.

Task 02 Matrix I am going from a simple sphere to a triangle. The inner space is changing, creating a variety of interesting Spaces that provide access. Or it can be a secret garden where sunlight can enter through space. People can also look away from each other from the cross space.
