How do I start a conversation about my mental state?

Mental illness can be a difficult topic to talk about. Here are some conversation starters to help you take the first step to sharing your struggles with someone you trust:

Conversation Starters: - Can I talk to you? It has been hard for me to get out of bed lately and I don’t know what is wrong. - Can I tell you something? It is not easy for me to share this with you so I hope you can listen and try to understand. - I’ll love to hang out with you but I haven’t been feeling well lately. - I know I have been rejecting your calls these past few days. I hope you’ll give me a chance to explain and not judge me for it. Note: Swap out the underlined words for words suited to your context
