Museum of Water Sydney

The “ Museum Of Water Australia “ has the goal of this project to offer comprehensive yet accessible information about the water which we live and work every day, including an information centre with updated topics: such as water in our planet, the truth about bottled water, where is tap water coming from, and things underneath the water. An exhibition space of interesting artworks or installation art. An water treatment alternatives area, to show the new technology nowadays and how we can reduce using water. A roof garden which using natural rainwater and a communication hub which allows to provide speech for educating and a tea house. This project aims to transform the power station into a new urban activity center, become a mutual exchange, healthy living space for sustainable development activities. As a global city which is surrounded by sea, however it is one of the least dry country in the world. We need a space to tell the importance of water and everything about it.

Although water is closely related to our lives, but few people would like to seriously think about all the things of water. Why does it exist? And what does it relate to our city? What is there in side the water ? Each person’s annual water consumption averages is 40 tons. Water resources are becoming more and more precious. Water is the most usual thing in our lives, which makes us ignore its precious and valuable. If one day we have no water in our lives, we will not be able to survive. In this extremely dry country - Australia; in a power station with deep historical significance, White Bay Power Station is an exciting oppotunity for a new museum of water. This “Water” museum wants to tell people some knowledge of water, to arouse their attention to water, get more understanding of water Origin.

Designer Retail Store This retial shop’s name is called “Escargot”. It’s the french word of ‘snail’. ‘Snail’ is a siginificant representation of my 5 designers’ works: HARYONO SETIADA / ANNA QUAN / GEORGIA ALICE / CELESTE TESORIEO/ MAUREEN FAYE-CHAUHAN The firsr four are all high-end women’s casual clothing and ready-to-wear. And the last is a jewelley brand, which is special in its shape and design intent and material. I hope when customer fo shopping, not only focus on clothes, but also the jewellery which can high their entire appearl. What does women’s fashion mean to me? Contemporary femininity is not only just sofeness. Women not behave as usual, not bland. The works of this 5 designers, their 2015 new seasons inspired me on the interior design. Urban women need something special today. The clothes suit for the needs of both elegance and personality. Soft material with neat and simple tailoring, that not only show women’s softness, but also show their independence from the inside. Therefore, the design concept will be “softness & hardness”. The way I’m going to represent this idea is to create a space with hard structure that are covered by a special material - shaped and twisted clear plastic sheet. It looks softly, but when you touch, it touches like glass. The plastic sheet is 15-20 mm thick, using fire to shape it and make it suit for the hard timber structure underneath. Their will be three large piece of it to installed in the store from the entrance to the storage space. That gives customers a sense of integrity and continuity. The another highlighting design of the store will be the elevated workshop/ studio. It’s like a mezzanine and provide a communication space between the designers and customer. People can feel, can touch, they can know more about the fabric and the process behind these attractive clothes. The colour scheme of the shop will be monochrome black to white, which will create a contemporary feeling. Timber and stone are the main materials for this store.

Student Accommodation This project aims to redesign the student accommodation (UNSW village) in the university, to create a better environment for the students. Student accommodation nowadays is important for uni student, lots of students choose to live on campus. Our design is aiming to give student a comfortable living environment, provide them good social expericence and bring them interesting staff. When I did the site visit, I found there are several issues with the existing accommodation: the corridor is too depressed; private space is too small for student and common space is not attractive. Therefore, I did lots of research based on private and common space. Finally the design solution is made in terms of room organisation and material selection as the first priority. The accommodation has two types of apartments: 2 bedrooms with 1 kitchen and 1 washroom/ 4 bedrooms with 1 kitchen and 2 washrooms. For these rooms, students have their own private space as well as the public living area. Every room has own kitchen so we can use the original common kitchen space to put new common social space instead. For the social area, we have small group study areas, kitchen and bar. Which can provide the necessary service to students.

IDEO Office

IDEO is a famous design thinking and idea giving company, they use their creative and unique design thinking process to develop client’s products or concepts. As the president CEO of IDEO - Tim Brown says: “ Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s tookit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.” IDEO encourages everyone to think as a designer, it also inspires me in my design for their new office in Sydney. For me, IDEO is a idea-growing company, I think they helps lots of small company, or small ideas become a big and finished product. This really inspire me when I think their working process, their core idea of solving problems is very similar as growing a tree. Therefore, “Growing” become my main concept of designing IDEO’s office. The trees that I put into the space not only represent IDEO’s core working process, which more important is the growing process become the office circulation. There are four departments in IDEO: Initial idea- design - workout - solution. Every departments need IDEO’s people from different technique fields.

34

35

Walsh Bay Pier 2/3, Sydney

The tree structure is the main design element within the space, it represents company value, as well as related to the site - Australian culture. Australia is an environmental and green sustainable country. The tree will link to the workstation desk, hanged track lighting and storage space. The atmosphere of the space that I want to create is innovative and creative. Communication is the most important thing in IDEO, because they always need to talk, working together and brainstorming. So there are lots of common/ multi-purpose rooms in the office. YIFAN HUANG Z5011837 ASSESSMENT 3

Restaurant

This is a restaurant for world famous chef - Massimo Bottura. His restaurant is ranked the third in World 50 best restaurants in 2014, located in Italy and run by himself. His every dish likes an artwork. He describes his artworks as “ Break the tradition, invite the freshness. This philosophy comes to the initial idea of my design for the restaurant. The idea of this project comes from the interesting plate layout of his dishes. He uses variety of different ingredients to make the plate colourful and elegant. It seems very random but has a sense of completion which can be said they are completed artworks. I try to create a space in terms of break the traditional layout of a restaurant and put something creative into the space. I make the dining area high ceiling which can provide a sense of good eating atmosphere. The sitting tables on the third floor with face to the outside which can see the beautiful harbourside view, especially in the night time. The main elements I put into the restaurant is the tree brunch which using organic materials and they customized made. It’s covered by colourful glass which can rrefer to the white dish plate.
