The conceptual frame for YET issue #8 is EDGES. With this term we want to refer to the state of the art in the field of artistic and personal research photography. The medium is facing an ever-growing technological evolution and an intense crossbreeding with other disciplines and techniques, while the photographic act is undergoing a general rethink in its concept, significance and application. This situation leads us to pose questions about photography’s nature and borders. How can we define photography, now that we cannot any longer consider it only as a merely mechanical representation of facts? At what point does photography give way to “pure” art? Where is the line between photography, graphic, digital art, sculpture, painting, installation, performance placed?
