(November 2013) A Call For Birth Justice In Miami is a new report by Power U Center for Social Change on the continued racial gap in infant mortality rates. Through its Powerful Women and Families program, Power U conducted research on the well established link between breastfeeding and improved health outcomes for both babies and their mothers. PWF members and staff then surveyed Black mothers in Miami to ascertain whether they are getting adequate breastfeeding support from local hospitals and other health institutions. The report shows that not only are Black mothers not getting sufficient support to breastfeed, they are being implicitly and explicitly influenced to use baby formula.
