Resolution: YEPP’s permanent commitment to the protection of human rights Adopted at the YEPP Council in Marseille on 10th December 2011. Recognizing that 1. On 10 December 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a common standard of achievement for all people and all nations, 2.
63 years later, Human Rights are still violated in several countries of the word and perpetrators left unpunished,
3. The General Assembly of the United Nations “invites all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day, to observe this day to celebrate the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights […], and to exert increasing efforts in the field of human progress” (Resolution 423 V, adopted on 4 December 1950) , 4. For the first time, the YEPP Council is held on the very date of the Human Rights Day, Acknowledging that: 1. The respect of Human Rights is a core value of the European Union and its Member States, as enshrined notably in the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the European Charter of Fundamental Rights and all national constitutions, 2. The respect of Human Rights is also a core value of the European People’s Party and of its youth, as notably reiterated in YEPP’s Political Programme adopted in Berlin on 14 May 2011,
3. YEPP has continuously carried out actions to condemn violations to Human Rights, in particular more recently in the EU neighbouring area (Belarus, Ukraine, the Arab World, the Middle East and Turkey), YEPP commits to observe December 10th as Human Rights Day, YEPP formally reiterates on this yearâ€™s Human Rights Day the permanent commitment of the association to the protection of human rights, YEPP pays tribute to all victims of Human Rights violations and their families and friends, YEPP strongly condemns all the regimes and non-State organizations that perpetrate Human Right violations or tolerate them in their respective countries, YEPP supports,organizations and individuals fighting for the protection of Human Rights, in particular youth organizations. YEPP calls on all countries worldwide and all organisations and associations to increase their efforts in the field of Human Rights protection.
