Project Explanation

Creating a living environment, where all activities of a daily routine can be performed, in an area with a size of 7 m3 . This living environment is within a settlement in the sky.

Sky Dwellers: "The BIG in the small" 1 - "Cylindu" <The Idea> The idea comes out from making use of the whole potential of the space by creating the demanded place for that activity when the activity is being performed and removing it when it is not being performed. This is done by operable cylinder shaped particles in different functions, which create the surrounding walls at the same time.

<How do we come to the form?> The reason behind the cylinder shape is the operability of these particles. By using the cylinder shape, they can easily move without hindering eachother.

Sky Dwellers: "The BIG in the small" 2 - "Loop" <The Idea> The idea comes out from making use of the whole potential of the space by creating the demanded place for that activity when the activity is being performed and removing it when it is not being performed. This is done by revolving walls. The places are inbetween these walls, which devide the circle into 4 equal areas.

<How do we come to the form?> The place contains 2 revolving walls, and one main space. The main space is the place where the person performs his/her main activities, while the revolving walls include things like wardrobe, WC, etc.

Operable Parts

<Table & Seat Relation> The table and seat are within one complex. This complex has particles of different sizes, which are sticked together by one vertical piece. According to need, the smaller pieces below are pulled out and become the function of a seat, while the upper part remains at its place and becomes the function of a table.

<The Bed> The bed is used by opening the locks which are holding the bed in a vertical position. When the locks are opened, the bed is able to be put into horizontal position.

Skateboard Park in Caddebostan

<2012> <2014> Istanbul Technical University Term Project Instructor:

Mine Ă&#x2013;zkar

Project Explanation

Rethinking green spaces and human relation with the green environment. Interacting with nature by creating alternative activities.

The Project Area: "Caddebostan"

<Site Plan>

About Caddebostan Caddebostan is one of Istanbul's most visited & comfortable places. It consists of repeating green space by the sea. It is used for sport activiities like daily jogging, bike riding, skating etc. as well as for chilling and relaxing.

Experiences in Caddebostan <Weather Conditions> Caddebostan gets highly affected by the weather conditions. When it is hot, Caddebostan is too hot; when it is cold, Caddebostan is too cold.

3 <Well Organisation> Caddebostan is one of of the best organised green areas in Turkey. It has different parts for joggers, chillers, bikers etc.

<Human - Grass Relation> Caddebostan is famous for its repeating grass areas. People use this area for feeling the nature, chilling, or just hanging around.

"The Story" Caddebostan; A place where people relax, enjoy their free time, do their sports. A place where people interact with the nature by; sitting/lying on the grass, being surrounded by trees, watching/enjoying the sea.

connection between green space & sea exists, no hinderness. convenient place for people to relax & enjoy the seaside.

disconnection between green space & sea, because of the sailor club's building. not preferred by people who want to interact with the seaside, so this green area is morely not used.

How can this Area be reclaimed? One of the main activites performed in Caddebostan is "Skateboarding". Since the teenagers do not have any specified place for skateboarding, they use the smooth roads of Caddebostan for skating, but this can be improved by creating a "Skateboard Park in Caddebostan"

How do we come to the Form? The form is defined by the present circulations around that green space. Circulation created by pedestrian & bikers

The draft of the form, which brings us to the final form

Areas created by these circulations

The System Which bricks are used? The system comes together in "curved brick forms". The dimensions of the bricks are calculated, each ring one by one. The calculated rings are then put on eachother. To create a double-curved surface, the rectangular brick needed to be cut on 4 sides. inner: used brick particle, cut from 4 sides

How do the bricks come together?

Living Experiences: Narrative Spaces in Antakya

<2012> <2013> Istanbul Technical University End of Term Project Instructors:

Asl覺han Senel, Zeynep Atas, Ozan Avc覺, Zeynep Bac覺noglu

Project Explanation

Creating a narrative space in Antakya, which comes out from experiences gained in that environment. Rethinking the project area, creating a new alternative activity.

The Project Area: "Antakya"

The neighbourhood where the project area is, is a small neighbourhood, where families with lower incomes are living. It is a local, calm place, with strong neighbourhood relations. This part belongs to "Old Antakya", which is famous for its housings with courtyards.

Experiences in Old Antakya

<Sight Restriction> Rainy days turn out as wet glasses, full of water dots. This causes blurness in the sight. But what is blurness? If thinked deeply, blurness occur because of elements blocking the sight, so it is related to the amount of open and closed places in front of the eye.

3 <Height> As well as experienced things, there are also the imagined experiences. Although there was no available possibility to experience the difference according to height, it is obvious that there will be differences, because behind all those walls, beautiful courtyards are hidden.

How can we make people experience?

<Height> People can experience the difference according to height through a transparent pipe, which is rising.

<Sight Restriction> People can experience through different positioned creepes the sight restriction.

<Superposing Both Experiences> Superposing both experiences would create a pipe of different positioned creepes.
