Exhibitions  MARCH

Our first open exhibition of 2015 showcases artists from across the UK working in a variety of media. The exhibition will also feature guest artists including Peter Monaghan. How to enter: The application pack will be ready to download from the RBSA website about 6 weeks before the deadline for entries, Wednesday 18 February. This exhibition is open to all artists working in all media except photography. Works including jewellery, ceramics and textiles as well as drawing, painting and printmaking are all welcome entries.

Now - 09 May HIDDEN TREASURES CAFT EXHIBITION

With a particular focus on geometric designs, this exhibition features new techniques, such as 3D-printing, to examine current trends in ceramics and jewellery. This display also aims to shed light on the many ‘hidden gems’ of talent in the contemporary designer-maker industry by including a number of emerging makers at the start of their careers. Confirmed exhibitors: Alex Allday, Alice Barnes, Jin Eui Kim, Amy Peace-Buzzard, Alice Coppock, Rebecca Cowley, Hamish Dobbie, Caitlin Gregory-Thomas, Chloé Herrero, Grace Honeybul, Jalin Kao, Rentaro Nishimura, Sophie Southgate, Andrew Temple Smith, Anna Thomson, Sasha Wardell.

Now - 25 Apr THE MEASUREMENT OF NATURE

Stephen Butt ARBSA. A series of prints and watercolours reflecting Stephen’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between the natural and man-made world as seen through cities, gardens and objects. Free associated event: Meet Stephen at the Gallery on Saturday 28 March.

Steve Evans ARBSA - A display of abstract perspex works and ink drawings. Steve’s work is informed by the geometry of architecture and minimalist sculpture. Don’t miss Steve’s demonstration on Saturday 21 February.

Now - 25 Apr BOWLS, DISHES AND PLATES

Andrew Matheson RBSA. A range of stoneware and porcelain pieces, including bowls dishes and platters, which incorporate a variety of glazes in blue and earth tones.

30 - 25 Apr EXPRESSIONS OF THE HUMAN FORM EXHIBITION

Six RBSA Members and Associates focus on the human figure within the context of the traditions of western art. Artists include Marylane Barfield, Brian Fletcher, John Garbutt, Roger Keeling, Jo Naden and David Walton. Don’t miss Marylane’s demonstration on Saturday 4 April, meet all the exhibitors on Saturday 4 April and meet Brian on Saturday 11 April.

The Hockley Flyer

A show by Colin Wilkinson and John Shakespeare RBSA which celebrates everyday life and objects, with the artists taking inspiration from the people they have met and the places they have visited. Their shared view of the greatness of neglected Edwardian art can be seen in their work, which is traditionally representational.

17 Jazzlines presents ... PALMER HILL

Any band with top bassist, Tom Hill, and drummer Ian Palmer, will present music of great variety, swing and humour. PALMER HILL, with the wonderful saxophone of Chris Bowden, and guitarist Lee Jones, is no exception. Expect a mix of funky and jazzy originals and jazz standards by Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Coltrane and more…

18 BIG WOLF BAND

Big Wolf Band is a local four-piece that excels in all the flavours of blues, from funky groovy blues to swinging shuffles; from slow minor blues to the rockiest of rock blues. Front man Jonathan “Big Wolf” Earp is joined by the talents of Ian Savage, (bass), Richard Fedeski, (keys) and Tim Jones, (drums). A mix of original material and classic covers, the band’s set shows influences from the likes of Albert Collins, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Green and many more. Big Wolf Band is set to release its first album , “Rolling with Thunder”, early this year as they continue to build on the success of 2014 and their growing reputation.

This skilled seven-piece play a wide variety of all time classics from the 50’s right through to today - entertaining, energetic & enthusiastic

Stellar vocal harmony is blended with excellent musicianship to make Up 4 The Downstroke the UKs premier band playing RnB faves from the likes of Beyonce, Timberlake, Rhianna and more.

24 The GLAMOPHONES

The Glamophones are a glamorous threepiece vocal group that perform some of the most iconic songs through the 20th Century, from the 20s to today’s chart hits, with beautiful harmonies and exciting musical arrangements. Backed by the talented “Big Bertha Band”, the Glamophones, bring to the Jam House two packed sets of some of the best music from the most famous eras performed to a swing beat.
