THIS MONTH Invitation to Dunelm Design Competition Window dressing with glass 365 Quick tips How to achieve the WOW factor Kimbolton WI Competition

Invitation to Dunelm, Huntingdon September 2013

This is the second series of ‘Talking Interiors’ and has been arranged after lots of requests from people who came to the first series and also from those who couldn’t attend the first series.

For this series we will meet on a Monday evening (the first series took place on a Tuesday) so it should help those with regular commitments on Tuesdays.

Basically it’s all about you. I host these informal evenings but we all get involved in the chat. We talk about anything and everything to do with interiors.

I hope you can make one of the dates but you are very welcome to come to all of them if you like. Bring a friend too. Each evening will be different!

We will have sole use of the cafe and there is no sales pitch by Dunelm and no obligation to buy but the store is open so if you want to get some shopping in before we start...arrive early!

We meet prompt at 7.00pm and will finish by 8.30pm.:Monday 2 September 2013 Monday 9 September 2013

Don’t miss the design competition! Saturday 13 July 2013 There should be a good turnout at the Annual Fete here in my village of Spaldwick because the forecast is for a sizzling weekend. (Last year the rain played havoc with the event but didn’t dampen spirits.) If you fancy a 2 hour interior design consultation there is a chance to win one as I have contributed this as a prize in the raffle and I look forward to visiting the lucky winner afterwards.

so come and visit. And there’s a £20 Marks & Spencer’s Gift Voucher up for grabs, so don’t be shy! I cannot wait to see what the Spaldwick folk and their visitors come up with! 11.00am - 4.00pm at Spaldwick Community Primary School, Royston Avenue, Spaldwick, Cambridgeshire. See you there!

During the afternoon I am running a free and fun Design-aRoom competition. Anyone can enter; young ones, old ones and even ones who have never designed a shopping list! There will be lots to do, some lovely food to enjoy, and interesting people to chat with. Oh, and if you like gardening there are some fabulous plants to buy from the members of the Gardening Club – that’s smart shopping! You will find me in the main hall surrounded by wallpaper and paint samples, furniture images and fabric swatches

Window dressing with glass Use glass shelves to increase the light flowing into your space and place a selection of coloured glass to add the glow. This is a scintillating collection of bottles but a similar effect can be achieved with water glasses, jugs, and vases. Note how the colours are grouped for extra effect. The collection might attract attention from passers by but it will give you some privacy too.  At night you may want to use drapes or a window blind, or…. if the situation allows… place an outside uplighter just beneath the window to create a glow. This will make it difficult to see into your room but you will have the pleasure of seeing the beautiful glass in a new light. (Image from Apartment Therapy.)

365 Quick tips I was leafing through a magazine and found myself searching out the quick tips as I am always in need of a design fix; it beats coffee any day! Whilst not expecting brand new, earth shattering ideas and concepts it’s good to be reminded occasionally and to see old ideas reworked making them very relevant for homemaking today. So I am giving myself a challenge to produce a tip for every day of the year. Yes, that’s 365 quick tips which I am currently

working on. If you have any requests about things you want to know, get in touch now. Subscribers to the TALKING INTERIORS blog will get their quick fix in weekly doses along with regular posts on what’s happening and some great articles on interiors. It’s easily the best way to keep in touch! To receive your 365 Quick tips go to the website and near the We Blog Design logo you can click on Subscribe.

How to achieve the What is it that makes you say "wow" when you go into a room? Here are three ideas for starters..... 1. Use paint in an unusual way; this blue stripe runs from ceiling to floor and highlights the wonderfully deep architectural mouldings. It’s quirky. 2. Put something very large, outsized or oversized into a space. The fact that it is out of scale grabs attention. 3. Use colour to make a statement; in this cool, almost clinically neutral scheme the injection of hot saturated pink is a shock.

16 November 2013 To understand how to create the WOW factor in your home, come along to the workshop! There will be time for discussion, a practical session and lots of ideas to take away and use. • WHEN? Sat 16 November 2013, 10.00am - 4.00 pm • WHERE? Swavesey Village College (just off the A14) • HOW MUCH? £30.00 • HOW TO BOOK? Contact me for more information and booking information. Images from Pinterest YasminChopinID

Kimbolton WI

Forward planning and organisation means the ladies at Kimbolton WI know exactly what’s on the programme next year.

Having just seen Andy Murray win Wimbledon I am in the mood for a competition. I am reliably informed that we are winning everything else important sportwise too so how would you like to be a winner?

I am delighted to have been asked to speak on 7 April 2014. Seems a long way off but we all know how time flies! Do you think there might be cake?

Can you guess what this is? Send me your thoughts by email and if there are lots of correct answers I will draw from a hat. No prize, just a bit of fun!!
