Oncology Center - Reception

Located at 10120 W. Broad St., Henrico, Virginia Started out as a spa that utilizes natural materials Designed for a Melanoma Oncology Center Coloring of melanoma inspired use of wood Axial relation of each space considered

Initial Ideas: Natural materials: wood, stone, bamboo Booth-like research center Partition screens for back area Not children’s center - no curves Lean towards adults - mix of men and women Luxurious but still relaxed type of space - not homey Focus on experience - spa-like This image of skin cancer influenced the space’s design to focus on melanoma because of the skin’s pigment that is similar to wood.

A computer station resembling a sauna room to give a sense of privacy.

Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Symptoms of melanoma include asymmetry, borders, color, and diameter. The design of the space revolved around the color of melanoma and the appearance of human skin. B Koshi P Pendant Lighting. YLighting. Reclaimed Douglas Fir. Old Barn Reclaimed Wood Co. Tasked to redesign studio space into a suitable workspace for its users Total area around 2130 SF Pattern created with various line types and weights Pattern seen as an RCP that has overhead planes to accent major spaces Different line types and weights to give a sense of what the design could develop into Space split in half by a partition wall for the studious students and for the side that needs a break Various floor level changes are incorporated into the design to emphasis the overhead plane Spot rendering with material swatches to highlight design
