Salvini wins! Italian Senate approves new law to make deportation of migrants easier voiceofeurope.com/2018/11/salvini-wins-italian-senate-approves-new-law-to-make-deportation-of-migrants-easier

On Wednesday the Senate has approved the legislation making it easier to depot convicted asylum seekers. The security and migration decree won with 163 votes in favour with only 59 against and 19 abstentions. The decree, drafted by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, the leader of the League party, was approved with a confidence vote and now moves to the Lower House.

This makes it easier for the authorities to deport asylum seekers guilty of felonies. There was some tension within the ruling coalition due to some members of the 5-Star Movement (M5S) being opposed to certain elements of it. Salvini celebrated via Twitter: “Security and Immigration decree, time 12:19, the Senate approves!!!” “#Salvinidecree, historic day!”.
