Yale Repertory Theatre, the internationally celebrated professional theater in residence at David Geffen School of Drama, has championed new work since 1966, producing well over 100 premieres—including two Pulitzer Prize winners and four other nominated finalists—by emerging and established playwrights. Seventeen Yale Rep productions have advanced to Broadway, garnering more than 40 Tony Award nominations and ten Tony Awards. Yale Rep is also the recipient of the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. Established in 2008, Yale’s Binger Center for New Theatre has distinguished itself as one of the nation’s most robust and innovative new play programs. To date, the Binger Center has supported the work of more than 70 commissioned artists and underwritten the world premieres and subsequent productions of more than 30 new plays and musicals at Yale Rep and theaters across the country.
David Geffen School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre train and advance leaders in the practice of every theatrical discipline, making art to inspire joy, empathy, and understanding in the world.
Artistry
We expand knowledge to nurture creativity and imaginative expression embracing the complexity of the human spirit.
Belonging
We put people first, centering wellbeing, inclusion, and equity for theatermakers and audiences through anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
We build our collective work on a foundation of mutual respect, prizing the contributions and accomplishments of the individual and of the team.
We wrestle with compelling issues of our time. Energized by curiosity, invention, bravery, and humor, we challenge ourselves to risk and learn from failure and vulnerability.
Yale acknowledges that indigenous peoples and nations, including Mohegan, Mashantucket Pequot, Eastern Pequot, Schaghticoke, Golden Hill Paugussett, Niantic, and the Quinnipiac and other Algonquian speaking peoples, have stewarded through generations the lands and waterways of what is now the state of Connecticut. We honor and respect the enduring relationship that exists between these peoples and nations and this land.
We also acknowledge the legacy of slavery in our region and the enslaved African people whose labor was exploited for generations to help establish the business of Yale University as well as the economy of Connecticut and the United States.

A hotel for the campus community: simply inspired and thoughtful by design.

Welcome to Yale Repertory Theatre and today’s performance of ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, created and performed by the award-winning, London-based Estonian clown Julia Masli!
One of the great thrills of live theater is its inherent unpredictability. Just as no two productions of Hedda Gabler can be exactly the same, no two performances of the same production of Hedda Gabler can be either. That’s true not only based on how a creative team and a company of actors interpret a text, but also how an audience on any given night responds to those choices.
Julia Masli’s truly one-of-a-kind theatrical event, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, is deeply rooted in these unique aspects of our artform. The performance you are about to experience will be entirely different than tomorrow’s, even if you choose to attend both, because it is highly improvised based on her interactions with members of the audience. None of us—including Julia herself—know what will happen once the show begins.
I had the great good fortune to see ha ha ha ha ha ha ha last summer at The Public Theater in New York City. I would be hard-pressed to name another night in the theater in which the audience was not only doubled-over in laughter but also visibly moved by Julia’s seemingly subversive provocation to open our hearts to one another. I’m thrilled to welcome Julia to New Haven and our theater, and I’m looking forward to seeing as many different performances as I can while she’s here. You may feel the same way!
Our season will continue with Eugene Ionesco’s tragi-comic masterpiece, Rhinoceros, staged by Obie Award-winning Resident Director Liz Diamond. The adaptation by Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee Frank Galati, working from the translation by Derek Prouse, and featuring choreography by Emily Coates, will play March 6–28.
We will conclude the season with Furlough’s Paradise by a.k. payne, directed by abigail jean-baptiste, April 24–May 16.The lyrical meditation on grief, home, and kinship—written while a.k. was a student at David Geffen School of Drama, where it was staged as part of the annual Carlotta Festival—is the recipient of the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the oldest and largest prize honoring women+ writing for the English-speaking theater. (Previous honorees include Geffen School alums Sarah Mantell and Lynn Nottage and faculty member Sarah Ruhl.) I’m delighted to welcome a.k. and abigail to Yale Rep for a full production.
I am delighted you are here today and hope you will join us again this spring. In the meantime, I look forward to hearing your thoughts about ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, or any of your experiences at Yale Rep. My email address is james.bundy@yale.edu.
Sincerely,
James Bundy

Julia Masli she/her (Creator and Performer) is an award-winning clown from Estonia, based in London. All she wants to do is solve people’s problems and eventually win the Nobel Prize, presented to those who have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. But this plan keeps going wrong as she continually wins prizes for comedy. Her show ha ha ha ha ha ha ha was nominated for Edinburgh’s top prize of Best Comedy Show, the SKY Arts Best Comedy Award, the Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, two Helen Hayes Awards, and declared number one comedy show of the year by The Guardian—despite her serious intentions.
Mara Bredovskis (Technical Director) is a third-year M.F.A. candidate in the Technical Design and Production program at David Geffen School of Drama, where she was the coproduction electrician for the 2025 Carlotta Festival. Other credits include Eden (associate production manager) and falcon girls (projections engineer), both at Yale Rep; Summer Cabaret 2025 (co-technical director) and Yale Cabaret season 56 (winter production manager). Prior to Yale, Mara worked as a freelancer in all things technical theater around the province of Newfoundland for companies such as Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Rising Tide Theatre, PerSIStence theatre, Opera on the Avalon, and more.
Sarah Chapin she/her (Live Lighting Designer, Associate Producer, Production and Stage Manager) fuses her technical expertise, performance training, and passion for systems and organization with an expansive can-do attitude to support artists making a more just and joyful world. She works as a stage manager, producer, production manager, educator, electrician, carpenter, and all-around technician for performance artists and arts organizations, including extensive work in contemporary dance and movement-based performance art. An avid social dancer, she runs a swing dance organization in her home city of Washington, DC.
David Curtis-Ring he/him (Costume Designer) is a queer British artist based in London and working internationally. He specialises in spatial design and costume for performance, photography, and installation. His practice is centred around the storytelling possibilities of contemporary sculpture; whether that be in a gallery, worn on the body, or installed into a store. No matter the medium, his otherworldly interpretations of nature are characterised by a playful approach and mythic strangeness, with handmade craftsmanship being key. He is best known for his production design for Pink Floyd’s The Endless River, for his collaborations with fashion designer Craig Green, and for his theatrical designs for writer/ performer Bryony Kimmings. He has art-directed music videos for Arctic Monkeys, Sinead O’ Connor,
and created numerous multi-sensory installations for Italian brand C.P. Company. @davidcurtisring
Alessio Festuccia he/him (Sound Designer and Composer) is an Italian sound designer based in London. His special skillset combines technical aptitude with creative intuition. In the course of his professional experience, he has worked as sound designer, music producer (Mr Everett, Alèfe, Tersø), and re-recording mixer for advertisements, short films, documentaries, and immersive audiovisual projects. He was recently featured as Sound Mixer for Netflix’s Bad Dinosaurs (2024), and his credits include editorial work for Armani and Vogue. His work was showcased at Dolby headquarters in London as a result of a workshop in composition for Dolby Atmos at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in 2023. @alefesounds
Jennifer Fok she/her (Co-Lighting Designer) is a Chinese American lighting designer whose design collaborations center around reimagining classics, established plays, and exploring new work in theater, dance, and music. Her work has been seen regionally and in New York at Roulette, Ars Nova, HERE Arts Center, National Sawdust, Flushing Town Hall, and Abrons Arts Center. She is a graduate of Ithaca College and member of USA 829. jenniferfok.com
Sebastián Hernández they/them (Live Sound Designer) is a LatineAmerican technical clown and sound designer. They have worked as a multidisciplinary technician at UCB, BCC, The Second City New York, The Elysian, The Bell House, Littlefield, The Public Theater, The Rockwell, and Pasadena Playhouse. They have worked on shows such as Stamptown, That Show with Chris Gethard, Mr. Cardboard, and countless more. They are hardworking, and their biggest weakness is that they’re too much of a perfectionist. They’re so excited to be working on ha ha ha ha ha ha ha again. @sebastianforgov
Kim Noble he/him (Director) was a critically acclaimed artist and performer from London. He used to be quite good at stuff like theater. He got an award. And he does some directing. The New York Times described him as “Annoying.” He is re-writing a book and recently had to move back into his mum’s flat due to financial difficulties. mrkimnoble.com
Whitney Renell Roy (Assistant Stage Manager) is a Dallas, Texas native and M.F.A. candidate in stage management at David Geffen School of Drama, where her credits include Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Ain’t No Mo’, Macbeth, and Antony and Cleopatra. Whitney has also worked on Broadway and Off-Broadway productions including MJ the Musical (Neil Simon Theatre), Beetlejuice the Musical (Marquis Theatre), Scene Partners (Vineyard Theatre), and Goddess (New 42 Workshop). She is thrilled to be part of this production and grateful to the creative team and cast. @whitney.renell
Annika Thiems she/her (Costume Designer) is a German multidisciplinary artist based in London. By fusing functional clothing with psychoanalysis, she creates wearable sculptures that reveal the fragility of the human mind and body. She applies couture tailoring to perishable and discarded materials like dried herbs, reclaimed fabric, and single-use packaging in a process that mirrors free association. Thiems regularly creates custom garments and installations across the visual and performing arts, including Damsel Elysium’s EP launch (2024), Madelon Vriesendorp’s exhibition at the Cosmic House (2023–24), Shirin Fathi’s performance at the Victoria & Albert Museum (2024), and Paulina Lenoir’s cabaret and solo show at Soho Theatre (2022–24). Thiems holds degrees in psychology and curating and was the recipient of the 2019 NEON Curatorial Award hosted by the Whitechapel Gallery. She previously worked at the design office Zak Group and arts organisation Forma.
Alice Wedge she/her (Costume Designer) is a womenswear fashion designer specializing in creative drape. She takes a lot of her inspiration from art history, tribal robes, and knots, diving into research to create a rich storytelling within her designs. Alice graduated from Nottingham Trent University with first-class honours and was featured in Vogue magazine as a graduate to watch. With nine years of industry experience, she has designed for brands like Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger. Coming from a creative family, Alice’s parents both
successful artists and her sister an art director, the artistic environment always influenced her. It was also a musical household which led to her love for opera which continues to inspire her. Based in London, she is now focused on starting her own fashion venture under her name ‘Alice Wedge,’ transforming existing fabrics into elegantly draped, limited edition pieces.
Lily Woodford they/them (Original Lighting Designer) is a technical designer who specializes in lighting design and multimedia work. They live in London, U.K. on a boat that they refurbished themself and studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, where their love of all things beautifully strange was solidified. They thrive on creating work that pushes the boundaries of conventional design and building powerful, thought provoking spaces. They have worked as a multidisciplinary designer for productions such as Julia Masli’s ha ha ha ha ha ha ha; Frankie Thompson’s CAttS and Body Show; Liv Ello’s SWARM, Jack the Mack, and Body Show; Adrian Bliss’s Inside Everyone; Eloina’s HIGH STEAKS; Stamptown Comedy’s Stamptown.
