ongratulations on taking the first step towards a quality education at one of Australia’s leading boarding schools. Yalari is looking for students and families who believe that education is the key to providing a better future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. Yalari scholarships are for students who are willing to give one hundred percent, who try hard at everything they do, who don’t give up when things get hard and who are brave and determined enough to succeed at boarding school. To be eligible for a Rosemary Bishop Indigenous Education Scholarship, you must be an Indigenous child from a regional, rural and remote community in Australia who is entering Year 7 in 2018. The application is a big decision to make for the student and also for their family. A successful applicant will be spending up to 10 weeks every term away from home for six years. Yalari and our partner schools provide a high level of support for students in the program. In return, we expect our students to make their education their highest priority and to complete Year 12. We expect them to join the school community, to work very hard at everything they do and to want to be leaders at school, in their home communities and throughout their lives after school. Yalari scholarships are currently limited to a maximum of two per family. This is to ensure that the maximum number of families and communities are able to take advantage of the opportunity. The completed application and all supporting documents must be received by the Yalari office no later than 30 April 2017. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Yalari has a limited number of scholarships available. Applicants should pursue other scholarships and opportunities where available in case their application is unsuccessful. The following pages should have all the information you need to complete the application. If you are unsure about anything please contact the Yalari office and we will assist you.

Good luck with your application!

You may wis refer PART B is to be completed by the parent/guardian. to them hlato ter PART C is to be completed by the parent/guardian. PART D is to be completed by a medical professional. If you make a mistake or need another application, copies can be downloaded and printed from the Yalari website at www.yalari.org 8. Allow enough time to collect the supporting documents. These documents sometimes take several weeks to be organised. If you are considering an application, you should start collecting (or applying for your supporting documents) now so the application is ready to be sent and received by us before the closing date of 30th April 2017.

What happens next? Applications are assessed by a selection panel. A decision is then made on which applicants will be given an interview with Yalari. You will be notified by letter, email or telephone if your application has been either successful or unsuccessful. You will hear from Yalari if you are to be interviewed by the end of July 2017. Interviews will be held in the applicant’s home or home community by Yalari staff between May and September 2017. The interview takes place with both the student applicant and their parents or guardians. If an applicant is successful at the Yalari interview, a school will be selected by Yalari and, along with a guardian, will be required to attend an interview at the school. School interviews will be conducted with the Head of School, who has the final approval of enrolment at that school. As Yalari has a limited number of places available at each of its partner schools, it is often necessary for students to travel interstate or long distances for school, therefore applicants and families should be willing to be flexible. Applicants and families can list a preference for a particular school but this in no way guarantees that a successful applicant would attend that school. Yalari Scholarship Application Pack - 2018
