The Great Fire of London

The king's baker, Thomas Farynor was in the kitchen with his daughter. When the bread was ready and they were tired. At 10:00 at night. They went into their bedrooms and went to sleep. The oven was still very hot. Soon the kitchen was on fire. At 1:00 in the morning the house was on fire. Soon other houses were on fire. The Fire spread fast. London was burning. While the houses were burning, the people at the king's palace were talking. "The fire is spreading very quickly! How will we stop the fire?" they asked. The king said to the people. "The houses are in rows. We have to destroy a house in each row so the fire can't spread."

After five days the Great Fire of London was put out. But the people had nowhere to go. Their houses were destroyed. The people of London started to build new houses. This time they built their houses from bricks and stone – not from wood. The fire destroyed the city of London but only six people died. All the rats died too, and that was the end of the disease. Because of the disease from the rats, 17,000 people died. What was worse? The rats or the fire!
