Museum Design SCUT 2016 Spring, Studio IV, Second Assignment Instructor: Xuanxing Zhou, School of Architecture, SCUT Site: Panyu District, Guangzhou, China Team Work: Xuanyi Xu, Yifan Deng Rework Individually 2017

This site is situated on the edge of the central lake, with beautiful scenery. In order to take advantage of the attracting scenery there, I use Buyijingyi, the traditional means in Chinese garden, to create two different routine to provide different spacial feeling and scenery of different angles. Moreover, in order to respect the landscape and scenery, I try to design in a modest way. Thus, the museum flows on the hill to ascend slowly, which provide visitor a gradual variation both inside and outside.

The site covers with plants and some old trees, providing a natural scenery different from neighboring area. What's more, some buildings sit surrounding the site, and some of them are blessed with aesthetic features. The design will try to create a space for visitors to experience various scenery.

CLIMB THE HILL AND ACTIVATE THE SITE

The landscape here is beautiful but visitors cannot experience it because of its steep landscape. In order to underline the beauty of the landscape and activate the site, the museum flows up the hill. At the same time, it creates some frames to gather the neighboring scenery.

Renovation of Hubei Urban Village SCUT 2017 Spring, Studio VI

Instructor: Qi Lu, Professor, School of Architecture, SCUT Site: Luohu District, Shenzhen, China Team Work: Xuanyi Xu, Yuanyuan Xu, Shuqing Huang Rework Individually 2017

Hubei village, one of the most famous urban village in Shenzhen, China. Moreover, it is also the oldest remaining traditional village in urban area. Since it important role, the renovation this village is controversial, for different people with different backgrounds have different opinions. However, the consensus towards the renovation is to protect the historic relics. Thus, we tried to renovate it in a modest way which can not only respect the history but also negotiate the different requirements of groups.

Hubei village is located in Luohu District, Shenzhen, China. It has a quite long history which can be dated back to 1460s. Hubei witnessed the development of Shenzhen, and it is one of the most important clues in the history of Shenzhen. However, as time pass by, the city developed rapidly, and the original village became one of the urban village in Shenzhen, which is old and unsafe today. Since it is located in the center of Luohu district, which is the prior center of Shenzhen, Hubei village's renovation is urgent and necessary. HUARUN, the developer, has made an urban design of the neighboring district, remaining the village without design. This work is to make a specific design of the Hubei village with the basic design of HUARUN.

Individuals in different positions have different requirements and anticipations towards the renovation. In this project, we hope to negotiate the difference and find a balance. Due to the analysis of requirements and current situation, we take some strategies to activate the village.

17

STRATEGIES Due to the analysis of individuals' requirements, it's important to improve the local culture confidence, protect the traditional style and view of historic architecture. Since the developer's urban design of Hubei village, the functions have to be changed into a high-profit one. Thus, it is essential to help local residents to remain and improve their local business, one of the important features in the village. However, in order to meet the need of more visitors, the village have to change in some aspects. With the change of the neighboring area, reorganizing the roads in village, activating the visiting routine and reorganizing the functions in village are essential. Therefore, we firstly design the village on large scale.

01 REORGANIZE ROADS

1.1narrow & unsafe alleys in village

1.2 create two more new roads with yards

1.3create one more main road to meet needs

02 ACTIVATE WITH WATER

2.2stream on right separates village & mall

2.3stream through village leads routine

03 RECOMBINE PROGRAMS

3.1prior functions

3.2residence & storage move out

3.3organize culture & business

Different from the traditional alley in village, this main road is more flexible. With the hints of water, people can enjoy the variable scenery along the road.

RENEWED SECONDARY ALLEY WITH SHOPPING WINDOWS The secondary alley used to be narrow and gloomy, while after reorganize the programs in the village, we set some shopping windows on the facade and create some courtyards along the alleys, which provide visitors a light and warm feeling. Moreover, we try to bring back some traditional factors ,like ancient brick and stone road, to renew the destroyed architecture and alleys.

OTHER WORKS

A Brief View of Other Works, 2013-2019

During the undergraduate study, I took various courses: Sketch Painting, Architectural Drawing Performance, Architectural physics, Structure and so on. Moreover, I participated some interesting competition: Architecture Creativity Contest, ‘Challenge Cup’ Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Competition and so on. Several works are listed in the following pages.

ABOUT LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION

Structural Analysis of German Pavilion,Montreal, Frei Otto Instructor: Yiqiang Xiao, Jin Li,SCUT Team member: Xu Xuanyi, Yifan Deng, Qi Liu, Lincheng Jiang, Guyu Tang The studio focuses on the analysis of architectural structure of some certain architects' works, including Frei Otto, whose representative works focus on lightweight construction. In this project, we learned about Frei Otto's German Pavilion in EXPO 67. At that time. We met a lot of challenges: lack of information about this project, for it's a temporary exhibition pavilion for EXPO and it was almost the earliest trial of membrane structure. Thus, without enough information about this work, we learned more about its theory of this structure and then inferred some details of the unknown parts of this architecture. After the class, I was strongly impressed by the beauty of structure and understood how structure could influence architectural space deeply.

FOOD MEETS SOCIAL

SCUT 2016 FALL, STUDIO V RENOVATION IN OLD DISTRICT Instructor: Qian Guo, Professor, School of Architecture, SCUT Site: Liwan District, Guangzhou, China Individual work The site of this project is located in the old district of Guangzhou. During the investigation, I found that people preferred to visit the Shangxiajiu pedestrian mall and Duobao road, where many Cantonese snack stores are situated. By learning more about Cantonese food culture, I found that people’s social life in Guangzhou is closely related to food culture. The site, located near the Cantonese Opera Museum, is less active. Therefore, in order to reactivate the site and strengthen the relationship between site and its neighboring area, I apply the food culture in this project to create a space for communication. Individuals here can experience different activities and encounter different people. Cantonese Dishes Cantonese Dishes

FILLING THE GAP

Design of Mixed House for Young And Old Site: Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China Individual work 2017 With the development of the society, more and more people move far away from home to chase for their dream. As a result, in the well developed cities in China, young people and old people both live alone. With time passing by, young people and old people live separately from each other, forming a invisible social gap. This design tries to fill this social gap, gathering the old people and young people. Thus, I design a mixed house for young and old, which may be different from those traditional apartments.

BEATING LIGHTS

UCLA AUD TECHNOLOGY SUPRASTUIDO TECH SEMINAR BEAUX ARTS BALL4.0 Instructor: Gabby Shawcross, Benjamin Ennemoser Team member: Xuanyi Xu, Qingyun Lu, Yiliang Wang The Tech seminar tried to combine virtural reality and mixed reality technique together, to create future party space to allow people to participate the party through those new media, breaking the limitation of physical space, distance or other elements. In our project, we expend our ideas with keywords”infinite forest” and “multifaced avatar”. Considering about endless elements, as response to topic of infinite forest, we decided to use light, which presents connection between infinite environment and multifaced avatar, while light’s reflection is also closely related to multifaced objects. In order to create a more interactive environment, we try to let all the lights in the environment could shake with music beats while the lights can also hit the multifaced avatar and reflect the lights.
