Crossroads was founded on the belief that education is a joint venture among students, parents and teachers. As a relationship-based school, students are encouraged to pursue their passions, express themselves fully and advocate for others. Our parents, faculty and staff join together to form a tight-knit community dedicated to the well-being of every student. Our shared belief in a progressive education centered on our founding commitments—academic excellence, the arts; the greater community; the development of a population of social, economic and racial diversity; and the development of each student’s well-being and full human potential—moves the School forward.
Annual Giving is what makes all this possible and so much more Your generous contributions to the Crossroads Fund make up nearly 9% of the School’s yearly operating budget, bolstering our academic and extracurricular programming, sustaining our Affordability Program (which benefits one in four students) and allowing us to hire and retain outstanding faculty members. In addition, your support of Crossroads’ campaigns make possible the development of initiatives including the Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts, the Equity & Justice Institute and the Science Education & Research Facility. Donations to our Endowment Fund ensure that our School remains financially healthy for years to come.

Walk onto the 21st Street or the Norton Campus and you’ll quickly understand what makes Crossroads so special Our School’s unique educational environment encourages students to use their voice to

This year, second graders planted a garden at Norton Campus after asking how they could help butterflies impacted by climate change and industrialization. Middle School students participated in Experiential and Outdoor Education (EOE) trips to Joshua Tree, Montana de Oro State Park and Yosemite to experience the wonders of nature. After learning about marine mammals in the classroom, Upper School Marine Biology students went on a whale watching field trip in San Pedro, witnessing the delicate ecosystems and exciting marine species firsthand.
Our exceptional academic programs and related educational experiences would not be possible without your support of the Crossroads Fund. This year, we raised $5.1 million in Annual Giving, which directly enhances our educational programming, allowing students to take part in
Experiential and Outdoor Education trips, join athletics teams and attend eye-opening field trips that bring to life what’s learned in the classroom. Support of Annual Giving makes a meaningful impact on our students. It also ensures that we can hire and retain exceptional faculty members and provide Affordability Grants to one in four students.
We also raised funds for our Affordability Program through this year ’ s Parent Association Spring Event Fundraiser. The Rock ‘ n ’ Roads event was the first of its kind, bringing together our talented Elementary School, 21st Street Campus and Parent of Alumni bands, who rocked the Hollywood Palladium, raising important funds and providing an opportunity for our community to come together.
This year, we broke ground on the Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts which was made possible by generous gifts to the Worlds Unimagined Capital Campaign. The building is scheduled for completion in early 2026 and will provide students with state-of-the-art teaching, performance and rehearsal spaces. In addition, it will expand opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration and serve as a gathering location for important division-level programming.

The 2023-24 school year marked my last term on the Board of Trustees, which I was honored to serve on for 11 years. Crossroads is fortunate to have such a dedicated extended community that believes deeply in the power of progressive education and demonstrates that commitment through philanthropy. While I will miss being part of the daily life of the School, like generations of families before us, my family and I will remain connected to this remarkable institution and support the success of its students.

Crossroads’ challenging and inspiring curricula encourages students to embrace their curiosity and synthesize ideas across disciplines, preparing them to excel in college and beyond
Gifts in support of Academic Excellence helped inspire innovation in subjects ranging from science to social studies, engineering to English. These gifts also supported the salaries of our exceptional teachers, compensated in the 90th percentile among peer schools.

The School offers courses and extracurricular programming of striking breadth and depth in the visual and performing arts. Our robust arts education allows students of all interest levels to tap into their inherent creativity and learn how to turn their vision into a reality.
Gifts in support of the Arts helped foster opportunities for student expression in drama, dance, music, filmmaking, graphic design, painting, ceramics, photography and much more.

Gifts in support of a Diverse Student Body bolstered our Affordability Program, K-12 Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, culturally inclusive curriculum development, over a dozen student affinity groups and seven family affinity groups.

The holistic education offered at Crossroads helps students grow in mind, body and spirit. Students develop resilience, self-esteem and respect for others, while setting goals, overcoming challenges and bringing their authentic selves to every aspect of school life.
Gifts in support of Physical Well-Being and Full Human Potential enhanced our Experiential and Outdoor Education Program, Physical Education, the Athletics Department and Life Skills programs such as the annual Senior Ojai Trip.

The term Annual Giving applies to a range of giving opportunities, and is comprised of gifts to the Crossroads Fund and money raised by Parent Association fundraising events, including Party Book and the Spring Event.
THE CROSSROADS FUND
The Crossroads Fund is our first fundraising priority because gifts to the Crossroads Fund impact so many areas of our School. The Crossroads Fund strengthens our founding commitments, enabling us to put necessary resources toward academic excellence, the arts, the greater community, a diverse student body and every child’s physical well-being and full human potential. Support of the Crossroads Fund allows us to provide Affordability grants, be responsive to our ever-changing world, meet the needs of our community with flexibility, and is vital to the outstanding progressive education our students receive. Gifts to the Crossroads Fund count toward Annual Giving participation.
PARENT ASSOCIATION FUNDRAISING
Proceeds from Party Book and the annual Parent Association Spring Event Fundraiser also benefit the Affordability Program. By participating in these fundraisers, you can help make an independent school education affordable to more families. We encourage community members who are passionate about removing financial barriers to education and creating a more equitable society to support the Spring Event in addition to their Crossroads Fund giving.

We are incredibly grateful to our Worlds Unimagined campaign donors. The campaign supports the Bezdek Center for the Performing Arts, which broke ground last year, as well as the Financial Aid Endowment, bringing the total campaign funds raised to $85,493,969. The Worlds Unimagined campaign also supported the Science Education & Research Facility (opened in Sept. 2015) and established an endowment for the Equity & Justice Institute (opened in Sept. 2018). Endowment
At independent schools such as Crossroads, building a strong endowment is the most significant way to ensure that we continue to thrive well into the future. Every dollar given strengthens the overall sum invested on behalf of Crossroads and allows the interest generated to flow back into important programs including the operating budget and the Affordability Program.
