those who were undermining the law in that “our municipality has always espoused the notion of safety for all during and beyond the festive season.” According to the KwaDukuza Municipality Communications officer, Sifiso Zulu, the Mayor says the death of one person on our roads is one too many and cannot be tolerated. “Mthembu still maintains that the battle against crime and road carnages should be everybody's business. He has however said that the department, working together with other law enforcement agencies, have managed to sustain stability on the roads as the festive season draws to an end,” he said.

“With the additions in our arsenal of measures, these arrests are highly commendable and we salute the gallant efforts made by law enforcement agencies who worked to the night to ensure that there is peace and stability in our communities,” said the Mayor. He said that instability and loss of innocent lives as a result of drunk drivers could have started the year on a sombre note if the arrests were not made. Mthembu's statement: “The future of road offenders is void,” was followed up by him saying “the people of KwaDukuza have to be confident about our work.” The Mayor also sent a strong message to

Couple brutalised in KwaDukuza By Xpress Reporter

A heinous crime allegedly took place just days before the start of 2014 in the Dawnside Area which is situated between Morningside (Ward 16) and Erasmus Dam (Ward 19). An Indian couple were subjected to alleged inhumane behaviour at the hands of four suspects in the early hours of the morning of Wednesday, 29 December 2013. According to KwaZuluNatal (KZN) SAPS corporate communications officer, Captain Thulani Zwane a “case of rape and carjacking was opened at KwaDukuza SAPS for investigation and no arrests

have been made.” “It is alleged that on 29 December 2013 at about 01:30 at Dawnside the victim (31) was with her boyfriend in their vehicle when they were approached by four unknown suspects at knife point. The suspects forced the victims to get out of the vehicle and stabbed the boyfriend in the face.” Zwane added that the suspects allegedly took the victim's bank card together with obtaining the pin code and two of the suspects left to withdraw the money. “The two remaining suspects then raped the girlfriend and investigations are continuing,” said Zwane.

Fireworks bylaws ignored, pet owners upset Offenders will be fined or arrested By Xpress Reporter

Some pet owners in KwaDukuza have expressed anger over the illegal bursting of fireworks on days not designated by the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM). A dog owner came to the Xpress Office and related how her pet was so stressed that it started punishing itself by way of self mutilation. A cat owner mentioned how medicating her animal because of loud bangs resulted in its death.

According to the bylaw: The only time a citizen can discharge / burst fireworks is on 5 November, 1 January, the seven (7) days of the Deepavali Festival, and any other day for public display of fireworks if the Municipality permission is first obtained at least 21 days prior to the event. If you violate the bylaw you are then open to be fined and / or face

imprisonment. Please phone the KwaDukuza SAPS on 032 551 8256 or the KwaDukuza Municipality on 032 437 5000 if you find illegal bursting of fireworks by anyone.

Citizen's law Despite victims knowing the processes and procedures to be followed, there is a growing tendency of taking the law into one's own hands. Last week, Nomusa Mthetwa alleges that a group arrived at her home looking for her nephew. She followed them to her outhouse where her nephew, Bongani Mthetwa (18) was. Upon her arrival, she noticed that he had a stab wound on his leg. On questioning the group, the assailant alleged that Bongani had broken into his house and stolen a television and microwave which he had promised to return. He further stated that it was Bongani who attacked him and was injured in self defense. Sphamandla Zungu (20) is due back at court on 27 February. Bongani has been charged with housebreaking and will seek bail. Alpha triumphs Isaac Dube rated Alpha Security as top-dogs after they solved within two days. Dube alleges he returned home and noticed that his house had been broken into. Cash and a USB were missing. On Sunday evening, Alpha Security was tipped off and they rounded up the three culprits. The USB and the balance of the cash were recovered. They spent R1600 on new clothing for Christmas. Andile Shezi (27), Philani Mhlongo (27) and Sifiso Mhlongo (27) all admitted to their roles in this crime. They are expected to seek bail. Tavern tales The crimes committed because of taverns are worrying. Electrician, Joseph Nzimanze of Charlottdale alleges that he had been drinking at a local tavern in the area. At about 1pm, he left and was confronted by three youths on his way home along a narrow foot path. Joseph alleges that one of them picked up a large boulder and struck him on the head. He lost consciousness and when he awoke, had a large gash on his head. He was treated at hospital and reported to the police. Bernard Mathe (28) is expected in court on 25 February in connection with this matter.

Senseless attack The 16 Days of Activism against A b u s e o f Women and Children appears to have found some deaf ears. Ntombifuthi Dlamini alleges that on 28 November she was attacked by four women who viciously assaulted her and she had to be hospitalized. The attack took place at around

The four were eventually arrested and brought before court. However, upon their release, they went in search of Dlamini. She obtained a peace order against them and had it served to protect her. The same evening, one of the four women charged, verbally abused Dlamini and the police were alerted. She was re-arrested and is due to appear in court to seek bail. Maureen Ngcobo (28), Melta Gumede (27), Thabisile Mthetwa (37) and Nisha Ntimbane (24) are all due whilst Thabisile Mthetwa is in custody. Like a magician Mthokosizi Gasa of Markham Stores in the CBD thought he was witnessing an act of magic. According to Gasa, he was alerted by the Manageress that a customer had fled with a shirt. He managed to apprehend the man and brought him back into the store. When the police arrived and began questioning and searching the man, they found 2 Cignal wrist watches valued at R260 each in his possession. James Charenza (33) pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to a fine of R1000 or 1 month imprisonment. Payback time A 21-year-old New Guelderland farm-hand has opened a case of sexual harassment against her foreman. She alleges that last Friday she was called into the office by the man who allegedly hired her. Once inside the office, the man allegedly groped her private part. When she remonstrated, he grabbed her by the throat and threatened to have her fired for being unable to do her job. She managed to escape and he caught and slapped her in the presence of others. Security was alerted and they questioned him. He still insisted on wanting to have a relationship with her for organizing her the job. A 59-year-old Balcomb farm resident was granted bail and is due back in court on 24 February. To the point With the large number of visitors to the Ballito area, opportunists have been cashing in on the demand for their illegal wares. On New Year's Eve, police kept a vehicle under observation and on approaching the occupants, one culprit attempted to conceal a package. On opening the package, officers found 26 ecstasy tablets and arrested a Congolese national, Paul Mzila (26). The unemployed man who lives in Point Road at Durban was remanded in custody for a background check to be conducted on him. Welcome to the coast High flyers and yuppies have learnt that the coastal resort has a very strong law enforcement belief. Musician, Donald Moatshe (28) of Auckland Park was arrested for speeding on 29 December after he was caught driving an Audi Q3 at 182kmph. He was granted bail and attracted much media attention at his appearance at our local courts. He is due back at court on 12 February 2014. On New Year's Eve Monica Jama (34) a manager in the Department of Health based in Maritzburg was arrested driving at 176kmph. At the same time, Lesley Phuti Mmoko (35), a Deputy Director at Tshwane Municipality, was

January whilst a warrant of arrest was issued for Mmoko when he failed to appear after they both paid R2500 bail at the police station.

A new record Nevin Maharaj (48) of Stanger Manor has the distinct dishonor of holding the record for 2014 as the first person to be arrested for drunken driving as well as the first person to cause an accident. Police allege they responded to a collision at the Manor robots at 12:07am on New Year's Day. On speaking to Maharaj, whose vehicle had collided into the rear of a vehicle driven by George Boulton of Richards Bay, they determined he had been drinking. Maharaj was placed under arrest and a blood sample was extracted. He appeared in court last Thursday and is due back at court on 29 April 2014. Just wondering Nomusa Gumbe alleges she was seated at her house at 10:30pm with her builder watching television, when her ex arrived. He accused her of being in a relationship with the builder, hence the low cost of the building. She alleges he assaulted her and head butted her in the face. He left and returned a while later and forced her to accompany him to the builder's house. On seeing the drama about to unfold, the builder fled and Gumbi alleges her ex beat her up with a knob-kerrie all over her body. He then took her to her house and forced her to have a bath with steaming hot water. She reported to the police and Wonder Sokhulu (36) was arrested on New Year's Day. He is due before court on 27 January 2014. Bad girls Two women appeared in court on a charge of housebreaking. Thembi Mgwaba alleges that she returned home and found her house broken into. Cash, a cellphone and clothing were missing. A neighbour who witnessed the incident provided her with information about the culprits. Caroline Mabongi Zungu (31), whom Mgwaba shares the same boyfriend with, was arrested together with Adelaide Xulu on New Year's Eve for the incident. They both appeared in court on Tuesday and were warned to appear in court again on 20 January 2014. Disguised When a woman attired in full traditional Muslim clothing entered Edgars on New Year's Eve, all staff members were on red alert. The previous day, after the woman had left, red-faced staff found three pairs of All Star takkies missing. The sensors were found in an empty box. On this day, the woman loitered about in the store from 2pm until 5pm. She went into the dressing rooms and returned some clothing to the shelves before joining the queue at the tills section. As she was leaving with a packet from another store, staff and security closed in on her. She was searched and was found wearing two pairs of Levi's jeans and two tracksuit pants. She also had other clothing and takkies to the value of R3226 in her possession. Keshnie Hariram (24) of Dawnside is due back in court on 24 January 2014 to plead to the charges against her.

In her free time, Dube enjoys going out with friend. Her vision

statement is to help improve the lives of young people. The KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor, Councillor NR Mthembu applauded her victory saying that young people continue to make KwaDukuza shine, year on year. He added that the success of this concert goes to show that government has the interests of young people close at heart.

“I am proud that young people keep flying the flag up there, raising the bar much higher in a bid to sell our municipality as a tourism centre,” said Mthembu. The Miss KwaDukuza pageant started in 2008 with Valentia Mthembu (23) became the first queen of KwaDukuza. She has since been assisting young girls on how to conduct themselves in the pageant year after year.

XPress Councillors Corner Residents in Stanger Manor woke up on New Year's Day only to find their taps were dry. Can you imagine starting a New Years day without water? For more than a week water disruptions have ruined the plans of many and with visitors and extended families it was just too much to handle. This water crisis got worse when iLembe Councils technical team with contractors failing to restore water supply and some residents were out of water for days. The initial problem was the inability of the pump to supply enough water to the reservoir which left reservoir levels at an all time low. Coupled with this problem was a pipe breakage which was repaired but did not solve the ongoing crisis. Water tankers were dispatched, in some cases, at odd times and residents were left helpless. I did everything in my power to give feedback to many people as possible and even assisted the tanker driver on New Year's day to areas where water was most needed up until 10 pm. I want to empathize with residents that were let down by the iLembe District Municipality. While I had the full co-operation from iLembe officials and updates - it was not solving the problem. This is a classical example of poor planning with no contingency plans. According to the recent census our population in KwaDukuza has grown by

We first heard about Mama Zainabu last year but we couldn’t believe it first until last month when our aunt went to her and her life changed after she won a lot of jack pots at suncoast casino. My husband and I were very deep in debts our house was almost going away by the banks our cars were already repossessed, so we decided to try Mama Zainabu’s Samuli powder we booked an appointment and went to her. She charged us and read out our fortune, we were so surprised when she told us every thing, she even touched the days we met and the reason why we were failing in life. She prayed for us and gave us the samuli powder to use. We began by playing the machines and later went to the tables. Everyone was looking at us. We were winning, we won a lot in the casino. Now that we have money our lives have changed. We paid of our debts bought a new house and now we opening new businesses. We testify out of our faith that Mama Zainabu has served us all in our family, she is God sent. We regard her as our family mother. Our children are back to good schools. He cleansed me from bad omen and also gave me powerful love honey powder and a special magic ring for my financial problems. After his help my husband came back. All friends I have referred to him also got results in few days. He also does the following : Lost Lover, Family problems, Court cases and 4 in 1 sexual problems. SA Ready for Chan 2014 Kick-Off The stage is set for the opening ceremony for the Orange African Nations Championship South Africa 2014, which kicks off in Cape Town on January 11. In a statement, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) said it had roped in South Africa's most celebrated Musos to choreograph and perform at the CHAN 2014 opening ceremony, which will take place at the Cape Town Stadium ahead of the kick-off of the first game between hosts South Africa and neighbours Mozambique. LOC CEO Mvuso Mbele said nothing had been compromised in the planning of the tournament. "The Opening Ceremony of any event sets the tone for what is to follow and that is why we have pulled out all the stops to ensure that Africa and the rest of the World experience one of the most memorable ceremonies in history. We urge everyone to get their tickets now and join us at the Cape Town stadium as we CelebrateAfrica." Award winning muso Micasa and celebrated choreographer Somizi Mhlongo will be part of

the line-up that is set to entertain fans during the opening ceremony. The Cape Town Stadium will host the opening match along with other Group A games, the quarter finals and the final on 1 February. Group B fixtures will be played at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, while Group C and Group D clashes will be played at the Freestate Stadium in Mangaung and the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane respectively. Bafana arrives in Cape Town The LOC also announced that Gordon Igesund's Bafana Bafana has already arrived in Cape Town ahead of their mouth-watering clash with Mozambique, which now means six national teams have touched down in the mother city for the tournament. Mbele said: "It has always been our resolve and belief as the LOC that we have full confidence that 16 nations participating at this tournament will select their best squad for this completion. We therefore welcome Bafana Bafana as they join Mali, Mozambique and Nigeria in Group A.”

Schumi's condition improves There has been a "slight improvement" in Michael Schumacher's condition, a source close to the Formula One legend said on Monday, eight days after a skiing accident left him with life-threatening Shop 1B Ushaka Mall injuries. Haysom Road • Tel: 032 551 4974 Schumacher remains in a critical condition in hospital where he has 69B King Shaka Street been in a medically induced coma since the accident on 29 December Tel: 032 551 2214 Fax: 032 552 5785 in the French ski resort of Meribel. But there are small signs of improvement and his loved-ones hope that he will pull through, the source told the German sports news agency SID, an AFP subsidiary, on condition of anonymity. Earlier, doctors treating Schumacher said he remained in a stable but critical condition. The team treating Schumacher said they would be giving no details of the treatment the 45-year-old is receiving in order to protect his right to privacy. "The privacy of the patient demands that we are not going into details of his treatment, and this is why we do not envisage any press conferences or statements in the near future." French prosecutors meanwhile said they would this week brief journalists on DON’T their investigation into Schumacher's MISS OUT! accident. A press conference will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 in the Alpine town of Albertville, local prosecutor Patrick Quincy told AFP. Investigators are focusing on the 53a King Shaka Street, Stanger 032 551 1140 retired racer's speed when he fell and w w w.t o o t e l s . c o . z a • t o o t e l s @ t e l ko m s a . n e t slammed his head on a rock on a small off-piste section, prompting his evacuation by helicopter to Grenoble. Prosecutors are also looking at whether the limits of the ski runs next to the accident site were correctly marked and whether the rock in question was lying close enough to the piste to require some valid until 31 January 2014 kind of protection or signage. They are also examining whether the safety releases on Schumacher's skis operated properly in a probe aimed at Hardbody Petrol Sentra / Almera determining responsibility for the 1400 Bakkie / NP200 accident.
