TCR shows to look forward to
For the past two weeks, Theatre Cedar Rapids has been showing “The Wedding Singer,” a Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical that is based on the movie starring Adam Sandler. TCR’s production stars Rob Merritt as Robbie Hart, an upcoming star who plays at wedding receptions. When his fiancée Linda (played by Raechel Sabin) leaves him at the altar, it begins a sorrowful period for Robbie as he goes around messing up others’ wedding receptions. Finally Robbie is empowered to give love another chance when he falls for Julia (Nicolette Coiner-Winn), a waitress that is engaged to a broker on Wall Street. With help from his friends Holly (Alisabeth Von Presley), Sammy (Ben Lafayette), and George (Aaron Canterbury) and his grandmother Rosie (Amy Rehnstrom), Robbie attempts to take another chance on love – but is it too late? “The Wedding Singer” plays until March 31. Theatre Cedar Rapids is also preparing for the show “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress.” This show features five bridesmaids who find refuge in Meredith’s room, the sister of the bride. While confined together, the women come to realize that they have more in common with the each other than the bride, despite their differences. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” stars Lindsay Eaves (Trish), Sarah Jarmon (Meredith), Kimberly Meyer (Mindy), Lindsay Prince (Georgeanne), Avonique Tipsword (Frances) and Michael Moore as Tripp, the cousin of the groom.
