Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three c in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

In the reading Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age, Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques, subtractive fabrication, additive fabrication and formative fabrication.Subtractive fabrication is removing a particular volume from a solid by electrically or chemically or mechanically reductive process by two-dimensional or three-dimensional milling machine. Additive fabrication on the other hand involves adding materials layer by layer, by using as 3D printers. Formative fabrication uses mechanical forces, steam ,or resticting forms to apply on a material which desired shape through deformation or reshaping. The protential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication allows for greater potential for development of parametric modelling such that datafrom the computer can be directly transferred and computerised into machine’s computer to generate the final model.

Week Three

Surface Creation

SURFACE SCRIPT

The Grasshopper Script I followed by workshop one ,through the different curves in the 150*150*150 cube to create different surfaces. By creating paralleling surfaces similar as the figure 01 and figure 03, and doing the surfaces which create the rotative feeling such as the figure 04. Or like the figure 02 which creative by randoming.

Figure 01 and Figure 03 parallel surfaces is a parallel surfaces. After the baking surfaces 01 in grasshopper , i have used the pointson in rhino. The Figure 01 is the final surface I had chosen. 4


Week Four Panels & Waffle

By this surface, I have chosen bothe 2D and 3d panels. This surfaces has joined three different panels, one is the the 2D which has been hollow out by two tangles, one is normal 3D panels, and the other is based on the later one which differ by the waverbird.

This surfaces is the 3D surfaces, it’s just made by the one panel.But I try to create the feeling of contious. The whole surfaces looks like a group. Moreover, the panel had been made by the waverbird.

This is the NE iso view of the waffle which can show the flow of the waffle.

This view is the SE iso view of the waffle, the variation of the width of waffle has show on this view that goes from wide to narrow to follow the surfaces lines and shape of the waffle.

Week Four

Laser Cutting

To place my model in surfaces to Laser Cut has been met some problems. The biggest problem is my 3-D panels. Which is too complex to ptunrollsufaces one by one. While when unroll those panels one by one, there are still some cure has been overlap. While by learn some rhino video in youtube . I figure it out by using solidpton to drag the overlap part .

Week Five

Same as the grasshopper teach in workshop 3. While I have changed the base shape from one sphere to two tetragon by lunch box, moreover, I have added the rotate command to change the angle of the shape.

By selecting the final model, I select the shape which shows different shape on every surface. The surface which showed on the sideward shows the two different type of the polygon. The surface on bottom shows the panel one of the rectangle and another is the octagon which has been combine two rectangle. And the other side are made by a three same shape.

Task 01 Matrix The first loft I have chosen which has the strong congruent relationships and has a great flow which showed on the waffle structure. That can be observed in figure 01 and figure 03. Moreover, that make the panel create can have the correspondence.
