A PEELER REDESIGN
12 PRODUCT DESIGN
Me and my team searched the peeler existing in the market and analyzed the pros and cons of these products, including ergonomics, material and fuction. We tried to find what is lacking in the current peeler design and define the emphasis on our design.
SIZE OF THE HANDLE OF THE EXISTING PRODUCT SIZE (CM) 21~25
THE REASON BEHIND
Why the populor size of the handle ends up somewhere betweem 16-20 centimeters? As we dig deeper we found out it has to do with the ergonomics on humman hands.
DURABLE TO ALL KINDS OF CONDITION
ESLATIC,COMFORTABL TO HOLD
VULNERABLE TO ORGANIC SOLVENTS
14 PRODUCT DESIGN
OBSERVATION & EXPERIENCE
To get closer to users' need,we actually use multiple peelers ourselves and recorded how the hand move during the peeling process. This helps us to understand more about the differences among designs than just words and pictures.
THE PROCESS Place dot stickers on knuckles so we can observe the motion of the hands more easily.
16 PRODUCT DESIGN

AN AFFECTIVE SOCIAL ROBOT
36 INTERACTION DESIGN
THE PROCESS This project mainly focuses on using a variety of desgn method to eventually approach the possible solution to our question. At first we were given the design brief "Affective Social Robot".Based on this brief,we went through the "4D"-Discover,Define,Develope,Design-with a system of methology, really getting deep inside the users' need and the logic behind the design process.
GETTING TO KNOW OUR USER
OUR TOPIC SLEEPING
OBSERVATION USING AEIOU METHOD
BRIGHT WHEN THERE IS SUNLIGHT
ASKING ROOMATES TO WAKE HIM/HER UP
CELLPHONE(WORKS AS ALARM CLOCK) BED DESK CLOTHES
LOW WILL ON GETTING UP ON TIME NEGATIVE EMOTION WHEN BEING WAKEN UP
NIGHT WORKING/STUDYING UNTIL MIDNIGHT,USUALLY SLEEP ON ITS DESK WHEN TIRED DAY HAVE A LOT OF ALARMS BUT SEEMS NOT EFFECTIVE
A LOT OF CLOTHES ON THE BED
KEEP HITTING ON THE SNOOZE BUTTON WHEN ALARM GOING OFF
38 INTERACTION DESIGN
INTERVIEW PLAN Aside from observing on our users, interviewing is also important as it help us to learn more about whats INSIDE user's head and make a deep connection with end users' need. However, the results may not reflects accurate thoughts and feeling, depending on HOW the interviewers ask the questions. As a result, a well-thought interview plan is necessary.
-5 PARTICIPANTS:2MALES 3 FEMALES -AGE:18-22 -OCCUPATION:STUDENTS -QUETIONS:TWO PARTS,AVOID CLOSED,BIASED QUESTIONS. PART 1 BASIC QUESTIONS -BASIC BACKGROUND DATA OF OUR INTERVIEWEES -LIFESTYLE -RELATIONSHIPS PART 2 CORE QUESTIONS -SLEEPING HABITS -THOUGHTS ON TECHNOLOGY
OUTCOMES COMBINING THE RESULT OF OBSERVATION &INTERVIEW
PHYSICAL PROBLEMS & FINDINGS -User sets quite a lot of alarms, but usually non-effective. -Habits of using cellphone before going to bed. -Alarm sound like pop music tends to fail. -Users are sensitive to change in light or temperature.
PSYCHOLOGIC PROBLEMS & FINDINGS -Snooze alarm causes the mindset of procastination.Hitting on the snooze button again and again isn't helping users get up on time. -Users has negative feeling toward getting up early. -Users usually works until midnight, they tends to insist on finishing their works rather than going to bed earlier, even though gradually losing efficiency during the process.
40 INTERACTION DESIGN
PERSONAS AND USER JOURNEY MAP
PERSONA Based on our observation and interviews,we made 4 personas. Each of them has different sleeping habits and life styles.
MALE AGE 20
MALE AGE 21
"I'm tired.Maybe later." PERSONALITY lazy,a procratinator, careless FRUSTRATION -low working efficiency -alarm doesn't always work -wasting time on cellphone GOAL -something that can help him organize his life
"I hate it when someone ruins my plan." PERSONALITY hardworking, strict, stubborn FRUSTRATION -roommates' alarms annoy him every morning GOAL -something better than cellphone alarm to wake his roomnates up
FEMALE AGE 18
FEMALE AGE 20
"Everyday is a fresh new start." PERSONALITY lively, positive, sometimes envious FRUSRATION -find it hard to get up early GOAL -want to get up early & have more time to do beneficial things such as execizing
"My hope is to have enough sleep." PERSONALITY easy-going,forgetful,easily distracted FRUSTRATION -too much homework, hard to find balance between work & relaxation GOAL -a efficient amount sleep time
USER JOURNEY MAP After building our personas,we drew their journey map to examine users' emotion high/low point through the daily life.
*Since our theme is sleeping,we only drew the journey of the activities before and after the actual sleeping time.

42 INTERACTION DESIGN
FRAMING DESIGN INSIGHT From all the information above,we have established our understanding of our users emotion and thoughts. We picked up some points that can be our oppurtuninies and deceloved guidelines for our design.
| Target User
-low work efficiency -lacking self-control -having trouble getting up in the morning/just cannot hear the alarm -want something that can help him organize his/her life
| Design Goal Help Users Schedule their Daily Lives Remind Users What to Do at the Moment & Keep them from Distraction Track & Analyze User Sleeping Quality to Show User How it Affects His/Her Health Form a Better Interaction Between Users & Alarm
| The Robot Would Serves As...
A Sleeping Consultant
A Schedule Supervisor
An Encouraging Friend
IDEATION CARDS The Ideation cards helps us explore different aspects of possibilities(while the ideas must always follow our insight) of our design, from which we cut down the ideas to two main qualities we wanted to focus on.
how to have a healthy habit??
it should has emotional reaction
bound with its users
sense of achievement
show its emotion by flashing of light
a pet?? a freind?
44 INTERACTION DESIGN
VALUE OPPURTUNITY ANALYSIS In order to create a product valuable to its users,we compare our product with the existing products to see if the changes we made in our products are an improvement or not.

Durability A B
PROTOTYPING This test focuses on examining the PROCESS OF INTERACTION.One person played as the robot, the other plays as the user. The user "thought aloud"by saying what he/she feels aloud rather than keep it in the brain. We filmed the process to see if there was any contradictory or "bugs" in our system.
Quick prototyping for the screen with paper and marker.
Quick prototyping for the "emotion" of the robot.
46 INTERACTION DESIGN
Mellow is a affective social robot designed to help user who want to build an organized lifestyle. It can track user's sleep cycle, improve bedtime habits & make user wake up better. It has humanized reaction and interaction, encouraging user to keep a good habit of focusing on the important task at the time rather than being destracted. It comes with a smart bracelet that can monitor physiological activity & connect user with the robot even in long distance.
HARDWARE THE ROBOT
creating social bond with user & helping user change his habits
Mellow has a charger base that is designed for being placed on the desk rather beside the bed ,in order to make user get out off the bed and interact with Mellow.

TEDxTainan 2017 Conference- Metrophobia
THE CONCEPT In the modern society, cities are our home ,but also our cage. Everyone fights with problems so huge that nothing seems to change no matter how hard we try. What can we do?We ask ourselves. Fortunately, there are always individuals willing to devote themselves into issues and raise awareness among the crowd. This is what we can do!Maybe, they are the guides we have been looking for...
Light is a very useful tool when it comes to stage design. In this case, light is also a important part of big cities. The right choice of light can really add some emotions to the stage.
The forest of sk yscrappers is another iconic impression of modern city.We want to apply this kind of stress and tension to the scene.
PHOBIA To r e s o n a t e w i t h t h e t h e m e "Metrophobia",we want to create an atmosphere that slightly makes the audience unsettled but not overly dramatic.
IDEATION Create a miniature city with neon light casting shadows in front of it.The strings stretching from every building represent the anxiety, reflecting to the light and forming a pattern of modern society.
Simulation in Sketchup
Simulation of lighting and color
PROTOTYPE Material Used:sticks, foamcore, cotton strings & LED lights.
CREATING THE CITY Material Used:pine woods,eye bolts,cotton strings,angel bars.
