100 +1 Objective: Use the imagination to create a piece of art by combining one hundred of an everyday object without using an adhesive. The object need to related to culinary material. This piece of art used around 100 of coffee sticks and it’s connected only by the compression and friction. 作品: 作品要求学生使用生活中常见的一种与食物相关 的物品,并只能用绳子或不借助任何粘合剂连接 至少一百件这样的物品,从而创作出全新的设 计。 本人选择的物品是咖啡搅拌棍,并利用物品间的 压力连接组成这件艺术品。

ATOPIA Capstone: According to research, China is second in global cat populations, with 53 million cats reported but the cat ownership only amounted to 10% which is the lowest among the top five cat populations countries. In China, approximately 90% animal protection organizations are non-government organizations or individual groups. These organizations or groups have limited resource with the local community and aren’t well organized. So the question is, how might we enhance the cat-human bond to boost the cat adoption in China? The goal of my capstone is to solve the current adoption issues, build up the cat-human bond and delivers a positive energy to the Beijing community. The scope of the project will cover background research, user analysis, potential site options and overall concept. Catopia aims to create a cat adoption center by bridging local shelters and communities in Beijing, which provides the opportunity to encourage users and cats to interact with each other and build cat-human relationships before adoption. “猫的领养舍” 设计理念是在北京各样的猫咪领养机构与社区人群 之间建立一座桥梁,传递健康,便捷,愉快的领养体验。领养舍 为猫和人提供一个舒适,轻松,有趣的活动空间,使彼此更加了 解。在此空间,猫咪可以自由穿梭,并不是人单项的选择猫,而 是彼此的互相选择。

SECOND HOME Objective: Kroger is renovating a new store on its original site in Corryville Cincinnati, which is a neighborhood located East of University of Cincinnati. Approximately 70% of the neighborhood is devoted to residential use, largely occupied by UC students. Our third year interior design studio was sponsored by Kroger to design a retail space. Kroger not only wants the new store to be a supermarket, but a place for people to hang out. Concept Since the site is near college campus and most of the college students live far away from home, they face the pressure of living independently, and feeling lonely. We want to provide them a second home, which brings them warmth, comfort, relaxation, and security - a place that they can socialize, bring together the community, while also feeling a sense of proud. “第二个家” 设计理念是提供学生,周围社区和克罗格员工一个像 家一样温馨,舒适和安全聚会场所。

Circulation There are two entrances to Kroger, one is from inside of the store, the other is from the sliding door of North-Western corner. After purchasing food from the 3 Kitchen, customers can eat at 2 Quick Dine or 1 Outside. They can also use stairs or elevator to go up to the Mezzanine in 4 Dining, 5 Bar & Juice Bar, 7 Lounge, and 6 Living for a more homey and relaxing environment.

我们将超市西北角改造出新的入口及室外休息区,顾客可从超市 主入口或经过室外区进入“第二个家”。图中路线展示人们在此空 间的体验。顾客可从 3 点餐铺购买食物,在 2 速食区或 1 室外 享受美食。乘坐电梯至二楼, 顾客途径开放式 4 餐饮区行至 7 “客厅”区。此区域可举办派对或观看球赛,适合喜爱娱乐及聚会 的顾客。楼梯通往 5 果汁店,顾客在超市购买的水果可在此处免 费榨汁,酒吧坐落于电梯后部。 6 休息室则为安静的顾客提供一 处享受独处或私密交谈的区域。

NH3 Objective: Hampton Inn is seeking the partnership between different brands of goods or services. Students were asked to create a co-brand between Hampton Inn and any commercial brand that would expand their customer experience and extend their reach and visibility to a market they may once not have had access to. Our fourth year studio was sponsored by Hampton Inn. The scope of work includes design lobby area as well as four types of guest rooms. The lobby area is designed with my group mate, Cai Zeng. Guest room is individual work and each of us designed two types of rooms. Example Locations

By overlapping the maps of Natural Reserve of China, Hot Tourist Attractions and World Natural Heritage in China together, we find the potential locations for our hotels. One example location would be Chengdu, Sichuan China, which has been the ancestral homeland to giant pandas since ancient times. 选址 通过重叠中国自然保护区,热门旅游景点以及中国世界自然遗 产地图,我们研究出适合NH3设计理念的选址。三张地图重合 的交点即为潜在的地点,从中我们挑选成都大熊猫繁育研究基 地作为此项目的一个例子。

Waiting Area The waiting area locates near the front desk, elevator and open stair, which provides a relaxing environment for guests. 休息区 此区域位于入口的左侧,临近楼梯及电梯。等候入住的 客人可在此休息等待。

Open Stair The open stair near the elevator is a vocal point in the lobby. The main purpose is to attract people to take the stair when there is no luggage. It’s an interactive way to encourage people save energy by exercises in small daily thing. 楼梯 半开放式楼梯位于电梯旁。圆形窗口将室外的风景 与拐角处的竹子相结合。如此的设计为鼓励客人更 多的使用楼梯,低碳环保又健康。

SUCCESSION Objective: Working in group, design a workplace” proposal for the maker movement in twenty to twenty five years from now. The proposal offers a solution for multiple poses of the body, various work styles and personalities, and differing solo and collaborative settings while addressing, in part or in total, the ability to regulate the environment and capacity to effect a workers wellness and well being.

During this internship, I had the opportunity to participate in the hospitality project in Saudi Arabia. Intercontinental Jeddah Hospitality Project

Intercontinental Jeddah hotel (IHG) creates a distinctive environment that is defining the future of the luxury Hospitality industry in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During my five months internship, I was mainly involved in IHG public spaces that are highlighted in the plan. I was asked to create an alternative space planning for the Multipurpose Room. The concept design and space planning were based on the overall schematic design, which expresses the richness of Middle East history and Luxurious Lifestyle in the contemporary environment. My other responsibility includes studying scale and proportion to design custom furniture, light fixture in AutoCAD, and making vignette drawings.

During my second internship, I had numerous opportunities to be part of a multi-disciplinary team for the execution of projects. These projects spanned three segment types, which offering me insight into requirements for hospitality, healthcare and restaurant projects. Linac Accelerator Vaults

Northwestern Memorial Hospital Linac Donor Niches is located in Northwestern Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology. The space is occupied by millwork film storage, countertop, view boxes, patients’ photos and a large brass gong. The gong is used as a celebration for patients who have completed their treatment. Patients would strike the brass gong to mark the special occasion. My tasks in this project included assisting studio design director on the renovation proposal, building Revit model, making detail drawings, renderings, material research, and ordering samples.

MAGAZINE RACK Furniture Class

This project is for third-year furniture class. We were tasked to build a piece of furniture, it could be a chair, table, shelf or even bed frame. Because of our school co-op program, we have to move around each semester. I always want to have my own stuff with me when I’m in a new city. So I decided to design a simple piece of furniture that is easy to assemble and carry. My inspiration comes from my roommate’s magazines. I want to build a rack that can store magazines, books, iPad, and so on.
