Preach Preacher! take the covers off! Praise the Lord Bro. Sims. Did you enjoy service today?

Why did you have a cold night?

Yeh, Sis. Kim I did. But I sure did have a cold night.

Last night Pastor said "Take the covers off!"

So what did you do?

No Bro. Sims. The Pastor was saying keep it real with God. There's no need to cover up what He sees and knows. So many people come to church with all these barriers up. God want you to keep it real.

I went home and uncovered anything that was covered. That's why I was so cold all my covers are packed away.

Well you know Sis. Kim, I'm over 72 years old and I didn't want to be out of order. I'll go home and cover everything back up.

BY SHARINA GEORGE In the book of Genesis, the story of Abraham and Isaac is one that is talked about all around the world. Abraham's wife, Sarah, is barren but God promises to bless Abraham's seed. God keeps His word and gives Abraham a son named Isaac. In Genesis 22:2, the Bible says "And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." For just a moment I want to look at this story from Isaac's point of view. Isaac knew about what it was to worship because of his father, Abraham. The Bible says in Gen 17:9, "And God said unto Abraham, 'Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.'" So God gave Abraham the responsibility of teaching Isaac about who God was and how to worship Him because he was to pass this covenant or relationship to his next generation, and that was Isaac. When Isaac was growing up I'm pretty sure he recognized some things were different about himself. His parents were older than his friends' parents and they worshipped the God of Israel. He found out through his father and mother

how special he was. All the kisses and love they gave him was one indication but also how he was born. His mother couldn't have children but then here he comes. Isaac is a very special boy with a special promise on his life. In Genesis 22:5, when Isaac and his father went to worship, this wasn't

TIE ME TO THE

ALTAR CHRIST LIVES WHEN YOU DIE strange. But what was strange is the fact that they had no animal with them, which lets us know he had sacrificed with his dad before. In verse 9, the Bible says Abraham built an altar, laid the wood and bound Isaac to that altar. An altar in the Old Testament was used as a place of worship or a place of remembrance of what God has done. In Ex. 17:15, Moses built an altar. In Joshua 8:30, Joshua built an altar after the victory at Ai. In Judges 6:24, Gideon built an altar recognizing God as the God of his peace. Many of us build altars without using any wood or nails. Just think about the last place you praised God in remembrance of something He has done. It may have been at your job, in the parking lot, at home in the kitchen, or even at church.

In the old testament when God would do something for his people, they would stop to build an altar to remember the place that God has provided or showed up. An altar often brings back to remembrance what God has done for you. It is a place of worship. But here we have sacrifices being directly connected to worship. Many of us don't mind sacrificing, but what happens when we become the sacrifice? What happens when our place of worship becomes our place of pain? We praised God at your job in the parking lot for our new car. We pass that same place later that we worshipped and we have the memory of someone stealing our car. We praise God in our finances, our time, energy, and resources to further the kingdom, but what happens when we become the sacrifice. What happens when we're in the kitchen for his many bountiful blessings and the next time we go there, it seems like we are running out of food and don't know where our next meal is coming from. We praised God at the altar and the next time we arrive we are trying to pray next to a person who we know lied to us. What do you do when you become the sacrifice? Can you still praise God when the place of worship now becomes the place of pain? You've got to remember that sometimes someone else's assignment is to cause you the pain it seems like you are experiencing. Abraham was on an assignment from God to do what he was doing. The reason why a lot of us face these times in our lives is to see if we are conditional praisers. When we find ourselves in these situations and our entire attitude changes and we can no longer praise God and

we're all out of our get-up, we need to ask God to tie us to the altar. "God, keep me in this place until I can praise you in this place. God, cause me to stop squirming as you crucify this flesh." Does anybody know there is a crucifixion going on daily? Sometimes our flesh wants to speak out, but God is trying to tie us to the altar. Until we learn to praise God in any situation we are conditional praisers. Yes, Isaac knew who he was and this had to catch him by surprise, but the scriptures don't speak of him complaining or fussing. A lot of us have been promised things by God and our current situation seems nothing like what we were promised, but I dare you to ask God to tie you to the altar. Once you die, that's when Christ can fully live through you. Anything that is tied to something can't go far because it is tied. When your flesh wants to get from under you, you're tied to the altar. The place of sacrifice is the place of worship. God tie me to the altar until my flesh lines up; tie me to the altar until everything that I thought and think lines up with your will. So many of us want to get out of the pain as soon as we get into the pain. If we were Isaac, a lot of us would have tried to unbind ourselves instead of laying there and trusting God. It's right when it seems like your situation is about to kill you that God is going to send the ram in the bush. God wants to know do you trust him with your life? Know, my friend, that God's promises are yeah and amen. Everything that God said about you is going to come to pass, but if your altar seems to be a place of pain, praise Him right there.

REvitalize, REenergize and REshape your body for worship How did you begin? Tammy: Fit to REJOICE is a program we put together to REvitalize REenergize and REshape your body not just for your health, but for you to live. It’s important to be healthy. We want women to be comfortable in this environment,

encourage one another, and have a good time at the same time. Lashonda: I’ve been a part of many different programs and I love to dance and listen to gospel music so I thought about putting together a fitness program that includes gospel music. Tammy and I met and I found out we had the same idea and we started the program. It’s a compilation of total body exercises that includes jazzercise, pilates, yoga, zumba and kick boxing.

What can I expect? Tammy: You’re going to feel more energy, more confidence; it’s going to help you get in shape and this program will also teach you how to be healthy. We understand that being in shape doesn’t necessarily mean being a size one or two. It’s all about making the right choices. We not only want the women to lose weight but we want their lives, eating habits and the way they think about food and their bodies to be changed. It’s not just a physical thing, it’s a mental thing as well. We encourage one another to reach all of our goals.

REACH YOUR FITNESS GOALS I’ve tried other fitness programs, will this one work? Lashonda: Yes! Consistency is the key. If you keep coming you will see results. We listen to upbeat gospel music and have fun while working out.

The other women that you will be working out with all have common goals and that helps to build your self-esteem as you try to meet your individual goals. Remember to keep going and keep moving. Even when you don’t see or feel the results right away, keep going. Even if the number on the

scale is not moving you may be losing inches first. Tammy: I think it’s good we have a support system within the program. If we don’t see one of the ladies, we’re asking about them and how they're doing. 1

I

Fit to REJOICE has been a great experience for me. I have struggled with my weight all of my life. Fit to REJOICE has met all of my needs and helped me on my journey to a more meaningful life. I was looking for a group where I would be comfortable, engaged, encouraged, motivated, and energetic and that’s when I found Fit to REJOICE! Paris Garner

The last three months of 2011, my blood pressure began to take a turn for the worse. I am 35, a wife, and mother of four. I called on God how could this be, my blood pressure had reached an all-time high. I spent 3 days in ISC at the age of 35. If I did not take control of my health then I could die from high blood pressure, which is why they call it the silent killer. In February 2012 I joined Fit to REJOICE, and admittedly my blood pressure began to go down. I feel lighter, am losing weight and am not sluggish. I eat foods that are good for my body. No longer does high blood pressure have control over me. For some of us it’s about staying healthy, and fulfilling the call that God has on our life. I encourage every person who struggles with hypertension to take your life back. Join me at Fit to REJOICE! Shalonda Johnson “I will not be bound”

ou were created with purpose and destiny. I want to tell you from experience that God can make whole what was torn apart. Some people who have experienced brokenness at least once in their lifetime sometimes feel there is no hope. I want to tell you there is hope for you. Thousand and thousands of young ladies are raped every hour, molested every minute and attempt suicide every second.

God is so incredibly awesome and amazing that only he can make all things new. I searched all over and I could not find anyone like God. I searched in drugs, alcohol and men and I sunk into a deep depression. I thought the world was empty of good people because of how I viewed myself.

You were fearfully and wonderfully made.

When you receive God into your life he causes you to look different. I’m not speaking of just the physical aspect of who you are but how you view things. God will cause your perspective of life to change. God showed me how he would use my many years of pain for ministry and if I had stayed in the depressed state that I was in, I would not be able to minister to you today.

I was molested for three years straight and it totally changed the scope of my life. I found myself feeling so different in school. I felt as if I were all alone with no one to talk to. My molester threatened me and told me he would kill me if I told someone what he was doing, so it immediately made me very fearful. I felt like everyone was staring at me in class, talking about how dirty I was for allowing this man to touch me. They didn’t know what was going on but from my point of view I thought they knew everything. I became very isolated within my own skin. I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone and that all the boys around me wanted to do the same thing. This man who did this to me for three years lived in our home as a boyfriend to my mom. He told my aunts’ boyfriends and they tried to touch me as well. I have learned over the past 12 years that God can save anyone. I was a mother at the age of 14, molested for three years, tried to attempt suicide three times and was abducted and raped when my daughter was only six months. If God saved me, surely he can save you.

Create in me a clean heart and renew the right spirit within me. We’ve got to learn to see our purpose behind the pain instead of holding on to unforgiveness and becoming bitter. God is able to make a bitter person a better person and I am a witness to this fact. God saved me when I was 16 years old. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and needed a serious change to happen or I would have attempted to commit suicide for the fourth time and would have succeeded.

ASK THE MINISTER

Seven Feasts of

the

ISRAEL

By Minister Monterol Johnson

Q. What does the seven feasts of Israel mean? The names of the seven Jewish Feast are Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles. They are the Holy Jewish Holidays that God in Duet. 16 and Lev. 23 command the children of Israel through Moses to celebrate, commemorating all that God did for them when He delivered them out of Egypt, “The House of Bondage”. According to Lev. 23:2, they are the Feast of YHWH, not Israel. Because of sin, carnality, and ultimately the rejection of Jesus as the Messiah, the Jewish celebration of the Feast became unacceptable to God. The Bible says that when the Jews read the law of Moses there is a veil over their heart and it isn’t taken away unless they first see Jesus as the Messiah (see: II Cor. 3:15,16). The reason why this is important is because the Feast has prophetic significance as well

as a historical significance, related to the Jews and their experiences with God. Look at what Luke 24:26-27, 44-45; John 5:45-16 says about how Jesus came to fulfill all that was written of Him in “the Law, the Psalms and the Prophets.” When we look at a few Hebrew definitions of key words in Lev. 23, we discover that when the Jews kept these annual Holy Holidays they were doing much more then commemorating the past. We discover in Lev. 23:2 that these Feast or Holidays were to be “Holy Convocations”. The word convocations in the Hebrew is the word “miqra” and it means something called out, a public meeting, a rehearsal. The word “rehearsal” means to practice for a public performance. Thus, while the Jews were celebrating a historical event they experienced with God, they were actually rehearsing something God was

going to do publicly in the world concerning the redemption of humanity. First, we have the Passover. This commemorated the Exodus from Egypt and the death of the firstborn males of all animals and people, but only when the blood of the lamb was applied properly would the death angel pass over the house because the Blood symbolized a death had already taken place (see: Exo. 13:3). The New Testament tells us that Christ is the fulfillment of this Feast (I Cor. 5:7). Jesus died at the exact hour and day of this feast as recorded in the Gospels. The believer through faith in Jesus' Blood partakes of this feast and passes from spiritual death to life and ultimately will receive eternal life at the resurrection of the just.

ASK THE MINISTER Second, we have Unleavened bread. As leaven is a “type of sin” (Ex. 23:18; I Cor. 5:7), we see there was no sin in Jesus and as the Passover lamb was inspected for sin, so was Jesus (see: Luke 23:8-12; Luke 3:2; John 18:13,24). It also means that after we partake of Jesus as our Passover (salvation), we are not to be entangled in the sins that bring us back into bondage. We are to live a Holy and consecrated life! Third, we have “The Feast Day of The Sheaf of First Fruits”. After Israel entered the promise land they were to take one sheaf and bring it to the priest. That one sheaf was called “the Sheaf of First Fruits”. The priest would take it and wave it before the Lord the day after the Sabbath, and that would be Sunday, the first day of the week. A sheaf in the Bible typifies a person as did the one in Joseph’s dream of his brothers bowing before him. Jesus at his resurrection and the saints that

got up and walked through the city at His crucifixion were that sheaf, and we all know that he had to go and appear before the Father, because he could not be touched immediately after His resurrection, but later could. We all know through the Gospels that Jesus rose on the first day of the week which was Sunday (see: Gen. 37:7; Matt. 27:52; Joh. 20:17; Joh. 20:27; Mar. 16:2). We are also promised a resurrection (see: 1 Thess. 4:1618). Fourth, was the “Feast Day of Pentecost”. In Exodus 5:1; 10:9, God told Moses that Pharaoh had to let the children of Israel go, in order that they could hold a feast to him in the wilderness. After they left Egypt they came to the foot of Mt. Sinai where Moses received the law and instructions for the tabernacle and thus the birth of Judaism came into being. This marked the birth of Israel as a religious nation. This feast pointed to the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost when God’s

moral law was written by the Spirit on the heart of man, giving birth to the Church (see: Acts 2:1-4; II Cor. 3:3). When a person accepts Jesus as their savior under Passover it is important that they understand that this is only the beginning of their experience with God and that the Feast of Pentecost should also be a feast that they desire to experience as well. (see: Acts. 1:5; Luk. 11:13) Fifth, we have the Feast of Trumpets. It is interesting that on the Jewish calendar there is an interval of months between Pentecost, the birth of the Church, and Trumpets which is the “Rapture feast”. That corresponds to the time we live in now called the “age of grace” or the “Church Age.” The Feast of Trumpets would be the calling out or snatching out of the Spirit-filled believers from the earth before the “Age of Wrath,” known as the tribulation, takes place back on the earth.

Protect

Tips on Preventing Sunburn: If you spend extended periods of time in direct sunlight it is recommended that you use a SPF of at least 30, or a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15, applying the product 30 minutes before going into the sun. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours if you are constantly out in the sun. Wear comfortable clothing that covers a lot of skin. The harmful rays of the sun are strongest and most dangerous between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. so, if possible, avoid being outdoors, in direct sunlight, during this time. Babies and children are more sensitive to the sun so monitor them constantly.

O

ne way to avoid sunburn is to use a sunscreen which acts as a barrier between the ultraviolet light and the epidermis. Sunscreens come in the form of topical creams, lotions, gels, and sprays, with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) strengths ranging from 2 to 70 (2 being the weakest form of protection, 70 being the strongest). For total protection against damage from the sun, the skin needs to be protected from UVA and UVB. The FDA (Food and Drug

Administration), has issued new rulings for sunscreen labeling allowing consumers to identify sunscreens that are safe and effective protection against UV radiation which can cause cancer of the skin. Broadspectrum sunscreens which are designed to protect against both UVA and UVB also meet the FDA standards. The FDA has designed new rules for sunscreen labeling. For example, the terms sunblock, sweat proof, and waterproof are no longer allowed on sunscreen labels.

ting Your

Skin

By: Joanne Stanley, RN

HEALTH &FITNESS The risk of sunburn increases when you are near things that reflect the sun such as sand or water. Certain medications, such as antibiotics, can make your skin sensitive to the sun. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the various side-effects of your medication. The higher the SPF, the more protection the sunscreen offers against UVB, which is the ultraviolet radiation that causes sunburn.

MYTH: If you have a darker skin complexion, you are least likely to have sunburn. FACT: Anyone, even those with a darker complexion, can get sunburn. Sunburn is when the outermost layer of skin, the epidermis, is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light which has the ability to destroy cells of the epidermis.

There are two categories of ultraviolet light: UVA causes long-term damage to the skin resulting in premature aging. UVB causes sunburns which are very painful. The skin will be warm to the touch and the affected area will turn either red or possibly bright red.

We are blessed to live in a climate where we can enjoy the best of the four seasons. There is no reason to spend summer hiding inside because of the sun’s harmful rays. There are plenty of products, along with common-sense techniques, that you can use to help protect yourself from the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays as you enjoy the outdoors.
