One avenue is through purchasing bricks at two field locations, the cannon wall ($100 per brick) and the Field House entrance ($200 per brick). Information for the brick fundraiser is enclosed. We recognize that Wyo Area’s academics and athletic programs are important to many of our former and current students and their families. and an outstanding faculty, staff, and administration are what make the Wyomissing Area School District one of the top public schools in Pennsylvania! What also distinguishes us from other districts is our community.
The Spartan Pride Stadium Project creates an athletic facility that is safe, aesthetic, and appropriate in scope for our District. During the summer of 2013, the District began to address issues with the field by repairing sewer lines to help remediate sinkholes.
• Problems exist at the tennis courts that are potential safety concerns. This plan allows us to upgrade the facilities to appropriate standards.
The support provided by the residents of Wyomissing and West Reading as well as local businesses to the District is unmatched. Individuals volunteer in the schools, serve on committees, and generously donate resources to enhance the overall educational program for all kids! This campaign to revitalize the Stadium Field is an innovative project engaging the entire community to help create a classic field, an excellent site for games, practices, and other community events. Visit our website at www.wyoarea.org to learn more about what is happening in our schools!
The second phase will include the removal of the tennis courts, which are over 60 years old and unfortunately beyond repair. In their place will be more green space, allowing additional practice area for our athletes of all ages. We are soliciting the community’s help to fund the final phase which includes renovating the walkway around the field, providing updated spectators’ and athletes’ entrances to the field, and surrounding the enhanced area with a stately fence. Why is the District doing this? Could we keep it as it is? These are two commonly asked questions anytime a change is proposed. We examined these questions, and here are our answers:
• Our varsity teams must charge admission to games to help support these athletic programs. To limit access without a gate, we currently install unsightly plastic fencing around the field during the fall and spring seasons, approximately six months every year. The proposed project addresses this concern. • Unfortunately, security issues do exist. Twice last year, vandals defaced portions of our field, scoreboard, stands, and press box. While a fence will not prevent this, it will deter such activity. Building a permanent fence will not “lock out” the community, as it will remain open during daylight. Rather, it will permit the District to manage the gate during games and help prevent inappropriate use of the facility.
