TRIP OVERVIEW

Embark on an extraordinary voyage through one of the world's most captivating waterways, where ancient temples rise from jungle canopies and floating markets pulse with vibrant life. This 12-day river cruise from Cambodia to Vietnam unveils the soul of Southeast Asia along the legendary Mekong River.

Begin at the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat before your boutique vessel glides southward past a tapestry of riverside life—saffron-robed monks, fishermen casting nets in golden light, and children waving from stilted villages. In Phnom Penh, explore glittering palaces and navigate remote channels to hidden villages where you'll share meals with locals and learn age-old crafts.

As you cross into Vietnam, the Mekong explodes into an emerald labyrinth. Paddle through hidden canals beneath arching palms, cycle past endless rice paddies, and dive into the sensory chaos of Cai Be's floating market, where vendors sell everything from dragon fruit to fresh noodles - all from their boats.

Savour authentic Khmer and Vietnamese cuisine from your private balcony as the ever-changing riverbanks drift past. Your voyage culminates in sophisticated Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), where French colonial elegance meets modern Vietnamese

RIVER VS OCEAN CRUISING

WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES?

Most people have been on at least one ocean cruise (and some of you have been on many!), but you may not have been on a river cruise, so I thought I’d explore some of the benefits.

Mainly because of the size of the boat, the embark/disembarkation process is a lot simpler than with an ocean cruise. No snaking lines, x-ray machines and passport checks. You literally walk up to the boat and Reception sort you out, usually within 10 minutes! They bring your bags to you (much quicker than on a liner) and for the disembarkation, you need only leave them outside your cabin on the day you’re getting off, not the night before. Far more civilised!

Perhaps the main pro is that the size of the boat means we can dock pretty much anywhere, getting much closer to the places we really want to visit. No tenders or hour-long taxi drives to get to that temple on this trip!

If you worry about motion sickness on the open waves, you will find that river cruising is completely calm, flat and pretty much motionless.

Whilst there is no denying the allure of the endless ocean seascape, there is something far more captivating and everchanging about the views on offer from a river. You can, of course, always see land and move from rural fields to temples, villages, cities and can generally see people all along the route too.

Now, this is personal choice, but you won’t find casinos, Broadway-esque shows and 24-hour dining onboard a river cruise. There is entertainment, but it’s more likely to be a singer or a pianist. We think this is a plus, but you might disagree…!

The food is always wonderful on cruises, but on a river cruise there are more opportunities for the staff to go ashore and pick up the freshest ingredients, making for an even more mouth-watering experience.

With just 40 crew members on board (and 84 guests, so pretty a much 1:2 ratio) you will get to know who is looking after you, which means a much more personal service. As this boat only travels the Mekong, the staff are also far more likely to be locals.

But the main thing are the inclusions. There aren’t many ocean cruises that offer free wifi, all the gratuities and even give you cash toward your flights (so that you can use your own points, upgrade, fly from anywhere)! You only pay for the ‘extra’ excursions that are available but entirely optional and obviously anything you buy from the shop or spa onboard. Incredible.
