Hillsborough Community College announced an 80-hour course that offers a Certified Production Technician certificate, an advanced manufacturing certificate. The course is partially funded by a U.S. Department of Labor $500,000 three-year grant. (Maddux News Wire Report, 09-10-10)

PEMCO World Air Services Inc., a maintenance; repair; and overhaul (MRO) company, opened a second free-span hangar complex at Tampa International Airport. The new 161,500 square-foot facility doubles the company’s Tampa hangar capacity, which now can accommodate between 10 and 12 narrow-body aircraft or six wide-body aircraft. The expansion is slated to bring as many as 500 jobs to the area. (Tampa Bay Business Journal, 09-30-10)

Auto insurer Progressive, the fourth-largest auto insurance group in the country, intends to hire more than 240 people at its Tampa Bay call center. The insurer currently employs about 2,300 at its Tampa Bay facility. (St. Petersburg Times, 09-30-10)

Tampa International Airport is continuously extending its reach outside the continental United States. British Airways plans to increase non-stop service between Tampa and London Gatwick Airport from five to seven days a week beginning March 27, 2011. JetBlue Airways is planning to have two daily nonstop flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico by June 2011. (Tampa Bay Tribune, September 2010)
