HALLOWEEN SKATE Sunday, October 29 11:30am-12:45pm Grab your Halloween costumes and skates and treat yourself to some spooky skating during the Everyone Welcome Skate. Spooktacular prizes for best costume. FESTIVAL OF TREES December 1-January 4 Bring your family and friends down to SEAPARC to enjoy the Festival of Trees. Take a stroll through our forest and make a donation to the BC Children’s Hospital by voting for your favourite tree. SKATE WITH SANTA Sunday, December 17 11:00am-12:30pm Santa is taking time out of his busy schedule to visit SEAPARC! Skate with Santa and enjoy holiday inspired crafts and refreshments. Swim Fit

A swim coach is on the pool deck to offer a workout, stroke correction and technique to the group. Participants will swim lengths based on their fitness levels. Morning sessions will also include interval training.

Shallow Water Fit

The movements are varied and challenging but designed for everyone to work at their own intensity level. This class can also be done in deep water with slight modifications.

Water Polo

Drop in for skills and scrimmage.

Aqua Zumba®

Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance for one pool party you shouldn’t miss. See page 21 for more details. Drop in fee $12.50, not included in membership.

Water Works

Low-impact exercises to help increase mobility, dexterity and flexibility of the body. This class is great for those with arthritis, osteoporosis or pre/post-surgery.

Deep Water Fit

This class uses a variety of movements with interval training to challenge your core and strengthen your muscles. Little to no impact.

Aqua Fit Mix

Increase your strength and cardiovascular endurance, while improving flexibility and agility. Can be done either shallow or deep.

Aqua Baby Workout New!

This combines a half hour workout for mom and baby followed by a 20 min baby swim lesson. No report cards issued. Must be at least 4 months old.

HIIT Tabata New!

Tabata is four minutes of high-intensity intermittent training, alternating between 20 seconds of max training followed by a 10-second rest for a total of eight rounds. These workouts are full body, fast-paced and fun!

A program for everyone to play together and practice skating and puck handling skills. A family game will be played on the far end of the ice. Helmets and gloves are required for all participants. It is recommended that youth wear full gear for their own safety.

Drop off during Skate Shop Hours for same day pick–up, or drop-off anytime for pick-up within 48hrs.

These sessions provide an excellent opportunity for all members of the community to get active on the ice! Helmets are strongly recommended for all participants.

11-17 Years

Get together with your friends for drop-in non-contact hockey. Program staff will be on the ice for games and shinny hockey. Goalies play for free. Each session is first come, first served. Full gear required.

Adult Hockey 16+ Years

Get together for a drop-in session of noncontact social hockey. Goalies play for free. Each session is first come, first served.

Red Cross Babysitting Course 11+ Years

Arena Programs SEAPARC Leisure Complex is proud to be part of the Greater Victoria Active Communities Learn to Skate Program. This program will ensure consistency in skills learned across the region.

PRESCHOOL (3-5 Years) Participants will be taught basic skating skills including: balancing on two feet, touching toes, walking forwards, marching, and falling down and getting up.

For children who can skate independently. Skills include: gliding, two foot jumps, making snow, and walking backwards. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 1.

Children will learn skills including: v-pushes, one foot gliding, two foot jump while gliding, walking backwards with some glide, two foot quarter-turns on the spot, and stopping. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 2.

Children will learn: two-foot glides on a curve, walking cross cuts, backward sculling, and backwards stopping. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 3.

Bronze Cross

Red Cross Babysitters Course

Bronze Star

Lifesavers learn and practice basic lifesaving skills. The emphasis is on personal safety and there is an introduction to safety supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for National Lifeguard. The Canadian Lifesaving Manual and a pocket mask are required for this course. Material can be purchased if needed. (Timed swim; 600m in 18 min).

Learn to care for children of various ages. Basic first aid and personal safety measures are emphasized throughout this workshop. Participants will also learn a variety of age appropriate games to give them the tools to be a great babysitter. A training manual and Red Cross Babysitters certification card will be provided upon successful completion of the course.

Swim Lessons

Sea Turtle (Parent Participation Required)

Salamander/Sunfish (Unparented)

This is a transitional level for preschoolers aged 24-36 months and their parents or caregivers. This level parents can gradually transfer their child into full time care of an experienced instructor. Participants and their caregivers work on submersion, jumping into chest deep water with assistance & kicking. Floats & recovery to a standing position are introduced and practiced. *Children older than 36 months who need parental support in the water will start here.

In Salamander, unassisted floats and glides are taught. Rollover glides and front swims are introduced through games and songs. The fun includes jumping into chest deep water. Sunfish pushes the distance of all glides, and floats in deep water are practiced. Learning also focuses on good judgment in, on or around the water.

24-36 Months

4 Months – 24 Months

This is an introductory class for babies and toddlers, and their parent or caregiver. To enter this level, children must be able to hold their head up. The goal of this class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries and holds in the water. Children and parents will build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active participation.

Sea Otter (Unparented) 3-5 Years

Children who are 3 years old or who have never participated in swimming lessons will enter the program here. In this level, swimmers will learn how to submerge, blow bubbles and open their eyes under water. Using games and activities, they will further develop their assisted floats & glides on their front and back and also experience age appropriate water safety skills.

Active Families, Healthy Communities

3-5 Years

Crocodile/Whale (Unparented) 3-5 Years

Deep water glides are introduced. Endurance is built though increasing distances for front and back swims as well as maintaining a surface support for 10 seconds. In Whale, focus is on progressions to front crawl. Front glides and front swim are performed for 10m. The basics of diving are introduced.

Level 1/2

This is an entry level for children to gain confidence moving through water. Rhythmic breathing and head submersion is encouraged and practiced through activities. Floats with recovery, and glides with and without flutter kick are taught. In level 2, the distance of front glides are increased to 10m. Rollover glides and front swim is practiced.

Level 3/4

This level focuses on forming safe habits when swimming in deep water. Sitting dives and treading water is introduced. The combination of front glides and side glides is taught as a progression to front crawl. In level 4, endurance is built with a 25m distance swim. Back glides now include a shoulder roll in preparation for back crawl.

Level 5/6

In Level 5 back glides with shoulder rolls are now developed into back crawl. Whip kick on the back and sculling is also introduced in this level. Endurance is built through a 50m distance swim. Level 6 focuses on rhythmic breathing for front crawl encouraging a fluent stroke. Whip kick is now developed into elementary back stroke. The distance swim is 75m.

Level 7/8 & 9/10

In these levels, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke and sidestroke are introduced and practiced. Endurance is built though 150m – 500m distances swims and different treading water techniques such as eggbeater is taught. There is an emphasis on personal safety as well as the safety as others, including dealing with airway obstructions and hypothermia.

SEAPARC is pleased to offer the LIFE (Leisure Involvement for Everyone) Program. It is designed to provide no cost and low-cost recreation opportunities for individuals and families on limited incomes. The LIFE program offers free or reduced fee options for a variety of activities. Membership passes are given to each family member. Individuals and families who live in Sooke or Juan de Fuca Electoral Area whose combined gross family income per household falls within or below the “Low Income” levels recognized by Statistics Canada may apply.

2017 FALL AWARD APPLICATIONS for 10-18 year old females residing in the CRD

KidSport Greater Victoria and Active Girls announce “Proud to Play like Girl” ($250) and “Performance Development” ($500) grants available in the fall of 2017. The $250 award can be used by young females to attend a training clinic or camp or other form of athletic or leadership training. The $500 award is intended to support girls’ ongoing performance development in two categories: (1) sport OR (2) physical activity pursuit (e.g., dance, yoga) to help cover costs related to their continuing involvement such as travel, equipment, coaching fees, or program registration fees. Look for grant applications on the KidSport website late in August – www.kidsportvictoria.ca. Applications are due October 1, 2017.

SEAPARC Leisure Complex has a variety of spaces available to rent for small meetings, parties, events, trade shows, conferences and private pool parties. POOL

Program Withdrawals

In order to receive a full refund/credit, requests must be received at least 72 hours prior to the program start date. Requests received after this time will not be accepted. Exceptions may be made for medical, relocation or other extenuating circumstances and the refund/credit will be issued on a pro-rated basis at the sole discretion of SEAPARC Leisure Complex. Supporting documentation, ie medical note, may be required. A $5 administration fee will apply to all refund requests.

We require 72 hours notice in order to reschedule a session. Withdrawals within 72 hours notice and missed sessions cannot be rescheduled or refunded.

Any NSF transactions will be subject to a $15 fee.

Holidays/Long Weekends

Most programs are not scheduled to run on statutory holidays or long weekends. This will be noted on your program registration receipt.
