Harvest Carnival

Needed - Fall Harvest Dinner Entertainment WE ARE LOOKING FOR ENTERTAINMENT. Many of you will be called by Vanessa and friends! SO PLEASE CONSIDER NOW WHAT YOU CAN DO TO BRING A SMILE TO THE FACES OF OUR CHURCH FAMILY - Play an instrument, recite a poem, dance, sing with others, tell a story, preform a trick, etc..... If you don't receive that call please call Mary in the office.

Halloween is just around the corner which also means that it’s time for us to start collecting candy in preparation for our annual Harvest Carnival for our community. Candy will be collected from now until the day of the Harvest Carnival to ensure we have enough to bless every child who walks through our doors. Feel free to leave the candy in the main office for Vanessa to collect or even outside Vanessa’s office door. Many thanks in advance! The updated bulletin board is up and ready for you to sign up to help with this year’s Harvest Carnival. Join us to create a safe and enjoyable place for the children of our community to come, play, and hear the gospel. Whether it is helping with set up after church on Sunday, October 28th, working the event from 3:30-5:30pm on Wednesday, October 31st, or helping return the fellowship hall and nursery to their original state after the event, we have something or somewhere you can plug in to help! Talk to Vanessa if you have any questions or would like to sign up to assist.

Fall Harvest Dinner November 4 at 5:30PM The Fall Harvest Dinner and Talent Show is coming up faster than we think. It's going to be held on Sunday evening November 4th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Child care will be provided.

Richard Scott our organist and pianist has gone above and far beyond his normal duties during these last few months filling in when and where he was needed. We want to thank him for his generosity with a special cake in his honor on Sunday October 21 during Community Time. Please bring your cards and words of thanks for Richard. Next Newsletter Deadline October 22

That evening we'll eat a delicious meal prepared completely by the Fellowship Committee with chef Marty helping as a worker bee. WHY? Fellowship has another loan from the church that needs to be paid back. Over the last few months we've had to purchase a new refrigerator and convection oven! All of the money Marty monthly pays for the use of our kitchen will go directly to pay off the loan. He will not cater for us until our loan is paid in full and we've built up a reserve. Thus the Fellowship ladies are cooking. Whatever you give as a donation for the Fall Harvest Dinner will help cover the cost of the new refrigerator and convection oven. Take a peek in the kitchen and see the new appliances.

Menu:  Green Salad with Tomatoes plus Onion Dressing  Whole Wheat and White Dinner Rolls  Ham with Sugar Maple Glaze  Cheesy Potatoes  Bacon-Maple Glazed Green Beans  Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting Mark your calendars today. Plan to be part of the fun and joy of being together at Walla Walla Presbyterian Church.

Pastor Appreciation Sunday Sunday October 28 During Community Time All of us would agree we greatly appreciate the many special gifts our Pastor Albert spreads around our congregation preaching the Word with truth, visiting in house and out, teaching what the Bible says, and loving and caring for us, his flock, plus so much more. On Sunday, October 28 we invite you to tell Pastor Albert how much he is appreciated in cards that you bring to Community Time. Extra cards will be available in community time for your convenience. Have a piece of celebration cake and cup of punch with thanks for his ministry here. A basket will be available to receive your cards.

Be on the lookout for shoeboxes in the foyer. We are excited to partner again this year with Samaritan's Purse and participate in Operation Christmas Child. Our congregation put together almost 200 shoeboxes last year; let’s aim to break 200 this year! There are changes to what is allowed in the boxes this year so please read instructions carefully and have fun putting your box together. All shoeboxes must be returned to the church by Sunday, Nov. 11 this year. If you have questions contact Sarah.

Some of last year’s shoeboxes ready for collection.

Youth Alpha Meals As mentioned in service a couple weeks back, the youth ministry is presenting Alpha on Sunday nights and is looking for people to sponsor meals for our kids. We invite the meal providers to join us for the meal from 5-5:45 on Sunday evenings to get to know our students a little and engage with them about their lives before we move into our time of discussion. If you are interested in providing a meal for our students and leadership team talk to Vanessa and we’ll get you signed up for a week that works for you!

Slam Quest Middle school students, it’s not too late! Slam Quest registration is still open. If you don’t know what Slam Quest is, it is our annual weekend retreat to Ghormley Meadows Christian Camp for middle school students. We partner with other Presbyterian churches in our region and gather for a weekend away to worship and get to know Christ on a deeper level. There are games, good food, great music, and inspiring speakers every year. Registration or more information can be found on their website, Or you can talk to Vanessa for more information. The details: The retreat is the weekend of October 26th-28th. Students will meet at the church by 3:30 and head off to camp together. They will stop in Yakima along the way for dinner. Meals will be provided at camp all day Saturday and Sunday before they return home. Dismissal is around 11am and we are typically home between 2 and 3pm depending on stops and timely departure from camp. It’s fall in the mountains so students will want a good sleeping bag (and possibly even an extra blanket), jackets, pants, shoes that can get muddy, and an extra pair of everything just in case. Additional packing details will be provided to students who register.

Mario Kart Tournament November is just around the corner and so is our annual Mario Kart Tournament for the youth. Dust off your controllers and come join us on Saturday, November 10th from 1-3pm to showcase your talents, get a little extra practice, or even play for the first time. We’ll have prizes for all levels of success!

RUMMAGE SALE SUCCESSFUL! Thank you so much to all the people who donated and for all the people who worked on our rummage sale. Our experiment of asking for donations and not pricing each item worked. We made $1,472.14, which is above average. Be sure to donate for next fall when Judy Hilliard and Linda Barker will co-chair the sale. Thank you, Donna McComas

FAITHFUL GIVING "Great is thy faithfulness". God is faithful! In August we were in a "summer slump" and our giving was running seriously behind. In September our faithful, giving congregation responded and we are now caught up. Thank you for keeping your pledges current. Blessings, The Organization & Leadership Session members

PRAYERS APPRECIATED Dear Church Family, Many thanks to Pastor Albert and the Deacons who visited me in the hospital after my fall, and to the Prayer Chain. Their prayers were appreciated. Every day I am improving. I was able to attend church on Sunday, September 9th for my 95th birthday with my family. I do look forward to and enjoy our church’s Sunday radio broadcast. Lastly it was so thoughtful of Pastor Albert and Steve & Nancy Reiff to come to my home to give me communion. Many thanks to all! Blessings, Lu Stirn
