MORE BIG TESTS UPCOMING Both UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay will travel across the Pacific Ocean to highlight a week of big tests in the Western Water Polo Association. The Tritons and Pioneers will spend nearly a week in Hawaii as they will not only take on a pair of the best in the nation, but they will also get some exhibition time against the best in the world. Both will spend Thursday, March 24 taking on the Canadian and Australian National Teams in a pair of exhibition contests. They will then take on fifth-ranked Hawaii and 11th-ranked San Diego State in a round robin on Friday, March 25. They trip will end when they face each other in a key WWPA match-up on Saturday, March 26. Another big match-up on the week will have sixth-ranked LMU hosting No. 3 USC on Saturday, March 26 at 12 noon, in a rematch of the NCAA semifinal from a year ago. Cal State Bakersfield will also be busy this week as they face the Lions in a WWPA showdown on March 23 in Los Angeles, and then host the Roadrunner Invitational March 25-27. Player of the Week Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Monterey Bay will also play in the tournament. Coming into the week, both Cal State East Bay and LMU remained hot, as the Lions ran their win streak to six, going 4-0 on the weekend while earning a pair of ranked wins. best string of games in her young career, earning WWPA Women’s Player of the Week for March 23. Honny nearly doubled her season goal total with 11 on the weekend, scoring three goals in the WWPA win over Colorado State, four in the win over Whittier and then four more in the win over No. 18 Princeton. She also added five steals and three assists as the Lions improved to 16-4 on the season. Another big performance from the 2011 LMU Invitational came from Colorado State senior ORSI NADASDY. She finished the four games with 12 goals, three assists, nine steals, five ejections drawn and two field blocks as the Rams went 2-2 on the weekend. It was an even busier week for Cal State San Bernardino, playing six games in three days. JENNIFER GOETZ was an offensive force for the Coyotes, scoring 17 goals on the weekend. MISTY VU also had a big weekend, scoring five of her 12 goals in the big WWPA win over Colorado State.

Cal State East Bay picked up JENNIFER GOETZ CSUSB a pair of wins over Division I opponents last week, toppling both George Washington, 18-9, and Harvard, 12-8, at home. The Pioneers (14-7, 7-2 WWPA) were led by CLAIRE PIERCE’S 10 goals on the day, while SARAH GRUNBERGER added eight scores, including five in the win over the Crimson. East Bay goalie JAYME PEKARSKE posted 23 saves and allowed just nine goals in CLAIRE PIERCE CSUEB just under 50 minutes of work in the cage. Pekarske allowed just one goal in 17 minutes against GWU in game one. The Pioneers face one of their toughest slates of the season this week, as they travel to Honolulu to take on a pair of national teams and two nationally-ranked Division I opponents. East Bay kicks off the weekend against the Australian and Canadian Under-21 National Teams before meeting No. 5 Hawaii and No. 11 San Diego State and capping the week with WWPA rival UC San Diego.
