Adopt traditional western Sichuan architectural style. Most of the residential buildings have wooden bucket structure, slopingtop, thin eaves to adapt to the hot and humid climate. The buildings are open and transparent, light and comfortable. The white wall makes up for the lack of daylighting in Western Sichuan. Obtain raw materials locally, including wood, lime, green tiles. Individual Project

VOKA is an therapeutic interactive toy designed for children with Selective Mutism to help relieving speaking anxiety and assisting in different stages of the treatment combined with the form of games. Also, it provides data information to auxiliary therapists to help them conduct the treatment in a more effective way.

BACKGROUND About selective mutism

Global morbidity

Nature

Nurture

SM children often have...

Selective Mutism is an anxiety

disorder where children don’t speak in certain situations, such as school, even when they can speak in other situations, such as at home with close family members

1

Social Anxiety

140

One in 140 children suffers from selective mutism

3

6 Onset

Confident children with selective mutism can use gestures to communicate

Treatment

Age of onset around 3 or when a child enters school, but mean age of diagnosis is 6

More severely affected children tend to avoid any form of communication – spoken, written or gestured

Communication Difficulties

SM does NOT tend to remit on its own

Anyone ( parent, teacher, peer, stranger...) prompting the child to engage verbally or behaviorally

Uncomfortable being introduced to people Being teased or criticized Being the center of attention Bringing attention to himself/herself Perfectionist (afraid to make a mistake)

Symptoms Abnormal Appearance

Frozen-looking, blank, expressionless face Stiff, awkward body language Lack of eye contact

I really wanted to be like a normal person, but whenever I was in that scene, I felt like my mouth was sealed with glue, and no word in my brain was complete.

Communicate by POINTING, GESTURING , NODDING ( use games, toys, and ageappropriate projects)

3 Contingency management

1

In the Japanese movie “East wind blows across the campus”, a girl with selective mutism speaks normally at home but she can't speak at school, even can't eat normally, and is excluded by her classmates.

2

A 17-year-old boy killed his girlfriend because of lovelorn. It is reported that he suffered from selective mutism at an early age. The shadow of his childhood made him irritable and extreme in dealing with problems.

3

Young children who go abroad to school often suffer from selective mutism due to environmental changes. Many children were eventually forced to drop out of school and return home because of academic delays.

We can see from the news that children with SM can easily develop into social isolation and withdrawal in the future, with Poor self-esteem and self-confidence. They often have poor academic performance. More seriously, it maycauses crime or possible suicide.

SM Children are usually utterly silent in my classroom, and forcing questions would make them extremely stressful.

The form of interactive dialogue triggered my thinking on this social issue. How should we rationally participate in news interaction in the face of public opinion ?

Individual Project

Death is "forbidden" in Chinese culture. Chinese people advocate life but avoid death, which leads to many people lost their way in life and seriously limits the development of hospice care in China. This project enables people to understand death, so as to better understand life. When we try to get close to death, we will find that life, like cube, has great tension and capacity, and is full of vitality. Color Scheme #

BACKGROUND WHY IS IT TABOO ? DEATH TABOO IN CHINA

COGNITION IN DIFFERENT REGIONS

In Chinese folk, the topic of death is regarded as very unlucky by Chinese people, which is a kind of "despondent words". Until now, most Chinese people are very taboo to talk about. All the topics and places about death are avoided as much as possible. Funeral homes, crematoria and cemeteries are all places where people stay only for a short time and are considered to be full of misfortune

Traditional culture influence

CASE STUDY & EFFECTS

ANALYSE Interview

Songtang Hospice in china was forced to relocate six times. Due to strong opposition from nearby residents

Throughout my growth, talking freely about death is not allowed, because people think it brings bad luck. Even on the death day of our loved ones, people are very cautious about talking, and are especially taboo

Death taboo create obstacles to the development of domestic hospice care The Chinese way of thinking is very resistant to the term “deathbed”. Talking about the this problem makes people feel cruel and ruthless. The hospice service provided by the hospital made the family dependent think that the hospital did not do their best to save the patients. Therefore, Chinese domestic hospice care hospital is even less well known, and there are not even a few.

Death taboo create an illusion of "infinite life" Such traditions prevent Chinese people from having a correct recognition of the integrity of life and thus give up the experience of limited life process. When they are alive, they muddle along without any aim, as if life will never end. When death comes, they turn grieved which seems that they have never lived.

I have witnessed the departure of many patients, and many of their families concealed their condition from their parents in order to be so filial. Chinese people can be born with high quality but cannot die with high quality

× fail to deal with as a “complete concept”

Human thought can only deal with the "complete concept" of "starting and ending". Only in the view of rational thinking, death is a necessary topic. It can be said that talking about death is the premise of thinking about life, because only when the two points of life and death are established, the integrity of life will be presented, and the meaning and purpose of life will become necessary.

The front and back glass transparency switches are controlled by ultrasonic sensor. When the hand is approaching, the front glass will turn transparent, and the projector will be started to play the animation. After playing, it will automatically switch back to the initial state, which is that the front glass is opaque, and the light passes through the back, casting shadows of trees on it.
