Age: The younger you are, the faster your metabolism is. Metabolism slows down as you age. Women‟s metabolic rate starts to decrease at the age of 30; for men, the decline in metabolic rate begins later, at the age of 40. 3. Gender: Men, generally, have a higher metabolic rate – usually 10-15 percent higher – than women because their bodies have more muscle mass.
