he Fourth of July weekend is always a great weekend for some team roping action. Such was certainly the case for the Oklahoma Championships held at the famous Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The event ran July 1-3, 2011 and welcomed over 1,575 teams from fourteen different states to try their hand at some awesome cash and prizes. The Oklahoma team of Clay Smith and Nick Rowland teamed up to win first place in the Average of the Open Division. The pair roped five steers in 37.74 seconds and won $3,136, trophy leather rope bags, and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Eric Flurry and Buddy Hawkins from Oklahoma and Kansas won second and third place went to Blake Hughes and Steve Orth. Gavin Foster teamed up with Billie Jack Saebens to win the Incentive Average. The father/son team of Bob and Wesley Moss were the stars of the #15 Division. They won the Average with a time of 38.04 seconds on five steers. They earned $3,166, trophy leather rope
bags, and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second went to Bobby Doyle and Jake Smith and third place was Blake Hughes and Kent Shankles. Texas and Oklahoma teamed up to win the Average of the #13 Division. Grayson Dykes of Campbell, Texas and Dawson McMaster of Alva, Oklahoma won first with a time of 35.79 seconds on five steers. They won $3,846, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second was Wallace Townsend and Chris Myers and third place went to Mark and Austin Rogers. Doyle struck again in the #12 Division with partner Seth Jordan. The team won the Average with a time of 34.64 seconds on four steers. They won $3,872, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the Average was Ryan Richtermeier and Brent Hargrove and third place went to Levi Taylor and Ryan Binford. The Incentive champions were Jordan Outlaw and Monte Joe Glenn.
