Con l’avvio dell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth e del Formula Regional European Championship la ripresa della stagione targata ACI Sport può dirsi effettivamente avviata. Sì, è vero, questa volta ci è voluto più tempo perché anche queste due serie trovassero la loro collocazione nel calendario e perché tutto fosse pronto prima dello spegnersi dei semafori. Ma aggiustarsi in corsa e rimettersi in gioco è una delle specialità di chi di motorsport vive ogni giorno. Infatti ora siamo qui, a Misano, pronti per un doppio appuntamento che vede la Formula Regional accendere i motori per la sua seconda stagione mentre la F4, al suo settimo anno, conferma la sua importanza di primo piano nel panorama del motorsport internazionale con una griglia di partenza foltissima. Una partecipazione che, in un anno così particolare, è l’ennesimo attestato di stima per il lavoro svolto da ACI Sport insieme a WSK Promotion. Unite, ancora una volta, nel far crescere una nuova generazione di piloti del futuro.

With the start of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth and the Formula Regional European Championship the restart of the ACI Sport season can actually be said to have started. Yes, it is true, this time it took longer for these two series to find their place in the calendar and for everything to be ready before lights out. Yet making adjustments and getting back in the game is one of the areas of expertise of those who live in the world of motorsports. In fact, we are now here in Misano, ready for a double event which sees the Formula Regional start its engines for its second season, while the F4, in its seventh year, confirms its prominent importance in the international motorsports scene with a packed starting grid. A participation which, in such a particular year, is one of the countless recognitions for the work done by ACI Sport together with WSK Promotion. United, once again, in growing a new generation of drivers for the future.

26 AT THE START IN F4 One thing is certain. This year we will be very tight on the grid of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. There are 26 reserved spots in the entry list of the first event in Misano. Drivers arriving from 17 countries and divided amongst 12 different teams. It is a pleasure to note that the growth of the line-up is also due to the arrival of many rookies who, until last year, learned the ropes in the karting championships organized by WSK Promotion. Una cosa è sicura: quest’anno si starà parecchio stretti sulla griglia dell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. Sono ben 26 i posti riservati nella entry list del primo appuntamento di Misano che vede al via piloti provenienti da 17 Paesi, suddivisi tra 12 team differenti. Ed è un piacere constatare che la crescita dello schieramento sia dovuta anche all’arrivo di molti esordienti, formatisi fino all’anno scorso nei campionati di karting organizzati da WSK Promotion.

JAMIE CHADWICK TO DEBUT IN FORMULA REGIONAL Among the names on the starting grid of the 2020 Formula Regional European Championship there is also that of Jamie Chadwick, the reigning W Series champion and, since last year, Williams F1 Development Driver and Aston Martin Racing Factory GT Driver. The British racer will team up with Prema Powerteam with which she already took part in the pre-season tests at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza and with which she is preparing for a starring season. Tra i piloti al via del Formula Regional European Championship 2020 troveremo anche Jamie Chadwick, la vincitrice della stagione inaugurale della W Series e dall’anno scorso anche Williams F1 Development Driver e Aston Martin Racing Factory GT Driver. L’inglese farà parte della squadra Prema Powerteam con cui ha già preso parte ai test pre campionato all’Autodromo Nazionale di Monza e con cui si prepara a una stagione da protagonista.

THE PATH FROM KARTING TO FORMULA 1 Since 2006, WSK Promotion has been involved in the organization of the most important international karting competitions. Given its history, dedicated to forging young motorsport talents, the structure devised by Luca De Donno could only share the spirit of one of the main objectives of the International Automobile Federation and ACI Sport: the creation of a pyramid that would bring young drivers to the top tier of professionalism, which would simplify the panorama of the various categories existing in different countries, eliminating the gaps between the various championships and, last but not least, simplifying the cost structure. This was the starting point of the project which allowed ACI Sport and WSK Promotion to launch and promote a Formula 4 series since its inauguration by FIA in 2013, which took place precisely with the purpose of creating a link between the world of karting and cars. The following six years have seen the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth become the most competitive and sought-after F4 championship thanks to the guidance of ACI Sport which, again with the support of WSK Promotion, in 2019 also took up the challenge of the Formula Regional European Championship. The result is a pipeline which succeeds in the objective of being educational, maximizing the time on the track while, at the same time, keeping costs down showing the way to all those young drivers who want to grow in this motorsport. Sin dal 2006, WSK Promotion è impegnata nell’organizzazione delle più importanti competizioni di karting a livello internazionale. Data la sua storia, dedita a forgiare i giovani talenti del motorsport, la struttura ideata da Luca De Donno non poteva che condividere lo spirito di uno dei principali obiettivi della Federazione Internazionale dell’Automobile e di ACI Sport: la creazione di una piramide che portasse i giovani piloti sul tetto del professionismo, che semplificasse il panorama delle varie categorie esistenti in diversi paesi, annullando i divari tra i vari campionati e, non ultimo, semplificando la struttura dei costi. Da qui è partito il progetto che ha consentito ad ACI Sport, insieme a WSK Promotion, di lanciare e promuovere la F4 sin dal suo varo da parte della FIA nel 2013, avvenuto proprio con lo scopo di creare un anello di congiunzione tra il mondo del kart e le automobili. I sei anni successivi hanno visto l’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth diventare il campionato di F4 più competitivo e ambito grazie alla guida di ACI Sport che, sempre con il supporto di WSK Promotion, nel 2019 ha raccolto anche la sfida della Formula Regional European Championship. Il risultato è una filiera che riesce nell’obiettivo di essere formativa, di massimizzare il tempo in pista e allo stesso tempo contenere i costi, indicando la strada a tutti quei giovani piloti che vogliono crescere nel motorsport.

Formula Regional will then continue to the Le Castellet circuit, which hosted 16 editions of the French F1 GP. The track is 5,842 meters long and it was inaugurated in 1970. It was built and named after the famous French industrialist Paul Richard who produced the anise-flavored spirit Pastis, an aperitif traditionally from France.

The Enzo and Dino Ferrari Speedway was inaugurated in 1953. It hosted the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in 1980 and all 26 editions of the Grand Prix of San Marino between 1981 and 2006. It’s 4,909 meters long and is one of the few circuits that runs anticlockwise.

This circuit, located just 30 kilometres from Rome, was created from the transformation of a hippodrome. It was inaugurated in 1951, and since 2006 has been named after Piero Taruffi, the driverengineer who designed it. The track is 4,805 meters.

The Catalonia circuit was inaugurated in 1991 and is the site of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and, since 1992, the MotoGP World Championship’s Catalonia Grand Prix. Thanks to the region’s mild climate, this track is one of the most utilised for winter tests.

One Brand PIRELLI must be provided of the following sizes and models: .Slick Tyres: Front: 200/540-13. Rear: 250/575-13. .Wet Tyres: Front: 200/540-13. Rear: 250/575-13. The maximum number of slick tyres to be used in free practices for each car at each event is limited to n° 1 (one) new complete set; the use of maximum one set of marked tyres is also permitted, for any race, in the last event in which the car has participated. Slick tyres allotment for each vehicle at Qualifying Sessions and Races is of n° 4 front tyres new; n° 4 rear tyres new. Non-compliance with this provision will be sanctioned by the Race Officials, up to exclusion from the race. Rain tyres allocation for each vehicle at Official Qualifying Sessions and Races is limited to n° 4 new front tyres; n° 4 new rear tyres.

All vehicles must compulsorily use engine Abarth 414TF 1400 cc. Fire Turbo supplied by ABARTH. Each conductor, for each event, will be combined with a single motor. This combination will be declared in writing to C.T., on the occasion of pre race event checks in question. With this engine is due to take part in all the tests prescribed in the course of the event (free practice, qualifying, races, etc.). The engine can be replaced during the event; such replacement will include the sanction of relegation ten places on the grid for the next race. That penalty will not be applied only if the Commissioners will have found one of the two following cases: . the replacement of the engine is due to an accident caused by another conductor; . the replacement of the engine is due to manufacturing defects recognized by Autotecnica Motori.

La dotazione di pneumatici slick per ciascuna vettura a ogni manifestazione, relativamente a Prove Ufficiali di Qualificazione e Gare sarà limitata a n° 4 pneumatici anteriori nuovi; n° 4 pneumatici posteriori nuovi. Il mancato rispetto di questa norma sarà sanzionato dagli Ufficiali di Gara preposti fino all’esclusione dalla gara. La dotazione degli pneumatici rain per ciascuna vettura a ogni manifestazione relativamente a Prove Ufficiali di Qualificazione e Gare sarà limitata a n° 4 pneumatici anteriori nuovi; n° 4 pneumatici posteriori nuovi.

Tutte le vetture utilizzeranno obbligatoriamente il motore Abarth 414TF 1400 cc. Fire Turbo fornito dall’ABARTH. Ogni conduttore, per ciascun evento, sarà abbinato ad un solo motore. Tale abbinamento sarà dichiarato per iscritto ai C.T., in occasione delle verifiche antegara dell’evento in questione. Con tale motore il Conduttore dovrà prendere parte a tutte le prove previste nel corso della Manifestazione (prove libere, prove ufficiali, gare, etc.). Il motore potrà essere sostituito nel corso della manifestazione; tale sostituzione prevederà la sanzione della retrocessione di dieci posizioni sulla griglia di partenza della gara successiva. Tale sanzione non verrà applicata solo se i Commissari avranno riscontrato uno dei due seguenti casi: . la sostituzione del motore è dovuta ad incidente causato da un altro conduttore. . la sostituzione del motore è dovuta a difetti di fabbricazione riconosciuta da Autotecnica Motori.

The greatest care has been dedicated to the safety of the vehicle, conceived according to standards that reference the thinking developed in Formula 1, including the steel Halo system (the protective system for the cockpit capable of keeping the driver’s head safe in case of an accident). For homologation, the frame had to pass the FIA’s extremely stringent tests. Striking as well is the size of the cockpit, able to accommodate drivers up to 1.9 m tall.

Grandissima attenzione è stata dedicata all’aspetto della sicurezza della vettura, concepita secondo standard che riprendono le logiche della Formula 1, incluso il sistema Halo in acciaio (ovvero il sistema di protezione dell’abitacolo in grado di preservare la testa del pilota in caso di incidente). Per essere omologato, il telaio ha superato i severissimi test della FIA. A colpire è anche l’ampiezza dell’abitacolo, che permette di accogliere piloti alti fino a 1,90 metri di altezza.

It is always a challenge to launch a new championship. New tracks, new cars, new atmosphere, new everything. Nevertheless, Formula Regional did not disappoint expectations as seen in the best shots of last season.

KING VESTI

The driver who won the first edition of the Formula Regional European Championship is Frederik Vesti. During the season, the Danish champion born in 2002, won 13 races with the Prema Powerteam, conquering the podium seven more times and a total of ten pole positions. Like his teammates Enzo Fittipaldi and Olli Caldwell, Frederik Vesti too passed through the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth before joining the Formula Regional.

È Frederik Vesti il pilota che si è aggiudicato la prima edizione del Formula Regional European Championship. Nel corso della stagione il danese, classe 2002, in forza al Prema Powerteam, si è aggiudicato 13 gare, finendo a podio altre sette volte e totalizzando un totale di dieci pole position.
