Implementing enteral sedation gives you the skills to change lives and raise patients’ confidence. With sedation, patients remember little of an appointment and feel as though hours are mere minutes. You’ll be able to handle complex cases in a shorter timeframe. This lecture will introduce you to safely integrating enteral sedation into your practice. You will learn how both your most frightened patients and extensive appointments can be transformed into some of the best visits. Learning Objectives: • Learn crucial safety provisions • Identify vital equipment for sedation • Readily decrease or increase sedation levels • Convey crucial skills for communicating with a sedated patient • Describe the science of sedation

We will talk about the anatomy and physiology of sleep and the disruptions that occur. Treatment options will be discussed and the role of the dental team explored. Various oral appliances will be shown with both positive and negative characteristics discussed. Learning Objectives: • Identify which patients might be at risk for sleep apnea • Learn how to motivate patients to seek diagnosis • Learn how to transfer acrylic appliance skills to sleep apnea treatment devices

This lecture is designed for those attendees who want to learn more about the nuts and bolts of volunteering in your local area or around the world. Topics include the nature of volunteer activities, cross-cultural issues, comparison of service and teaching projects, how to get started, the do’s and don’ts of volunteering, and where to find these volunteer opportunities. There will be ample time for interaction with the Dr. Serio and other experienced members of the audience. Learning Objectives: • Outline the steps necessary to get started including needs assessment, goal setting, and team assembly • Learn the basics of volunteering including project support • How to find volunteer opportunities Dr. Serio is the founder and former director of the Dominican Dental Mission Project.
