Harvest Moon Hosts Farm-to-Table Dinner

H

arvest Moon Farm and Orchard of North Salem, purveyor of farm-fresh apples, produce, eggs, grass-fed meat and locally famous cider donuts, will host its first farm-to-table dinner July 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. The dinner will take place at The Overlook, a stone patio situated at the highest point of the orchard. A collaboration between the farm and renowned Westchester chefs and restaurateurs John and Paul Aversano, the event will feature unique seasonal offerings sourced from and inspired by ingredients grown on the farm, says Harvest Moon’s general manager, Christine Covino. “Our dinner unifies the talents of two local family establishments, highlighting what each does best—growing high-quality, farm-fresh food and artfully utilizing what is locally available,” she says. The evening will begin with a bucolic wagon ride through the orchard up to The Overlook, where guests will be greeted with a glass of Hardscrabble Cider, pressed from the apples grown in the orchard. They can then enjoy cocktail hour with live music on the patio before being seated in an adjacent dining area, where they can watch the sunset over their farm-to-table dinner. “We are thrilled to welcome the community to sample and enjoy what we do, where it all takes place—here on the farm,” Covino says. Tickets are $150, not including Eventbrite processing fee, tax and gratuity. A beer and wine cash bar will be available, as well as complimentary Hardscrabble Cider throughout the evening. Purchase tickets at HMOrchard.com/FarmDinner. The rain date is July 20.

ood Choice Kitchen, located on Main Street in Ossining, has only been open since February, but word has already spread that anyone can dine comfortably there, despite dietary restrictions. The café has an extensive fresh juice and smoothie menu as well as 100 percent vegan menus that vary by season. Chef and owner Laurie Gershgorn began cooking when she was very young and ultimately received professional training at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in Manhattan. After years as a private chef with a dream of owning a café, she opened Good Choice Kitchen to provide more vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan Chef Laurie Gershgorn options to the community. “As a plus, every plate and bowl is made of a sustainable bamboo material, with the to-go containers made of compostable material,” she says. “This eliminates a lot of waste that would have ended up in the environment.” Good Choice Kitchen also offers seasonal cooking classes for adults and children, with lessons ranging from basic knife skills to gluten-free baking. “By providing lessons in healthy cooking, I hope to inspire busy parents to cook more meals for their families,” Gershgorn says. Weekly meal plans she’s prepared are available for pickup or delivery. These meals may be custom ordered and can accommodate vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free and other dietary restrictions or preferences. Good Choice Kitchen is located at 147 Main St., Ossining, NY.
