Course Overview 01 Develop and enhance a set of attitudes that will lead to successful and independent lifelong learning in an open learning environment.

02 How to learn effectively, manage stress and time, prepare for tutorial sessions, write assignments, make short oral presentations, prepare for various types of assessments, manage WawasanLearn in WOU, use the electronic library, search for information via various sources, resources and use evaluation criteria to select the most accurate, relevant and credible data.2.

1.1 The WOU’s Website The WOU’s website can be accessed through the internet. You can use common browsers – Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Google Chrome. etc.

1.3 Online Assignment System (OAS)

The Online assignment submission (OAS) is a

system that caters for all the University’s needs in terms of receiving assignments from students, making

them available to tutors to mark, returning grades, comments and marked work to students.


Assignment Submission deadlines

1. Each assignment has a “deadline” which is the final date of receipt by the University for marking. 2. For a TMA, the “deadline” is the last date for the assignment to be submitted online. 3. Submission of assignments by fax and email will not be accepted.

Step 2: Selecting the course and class - Select the course and class for which you wish to submit your assignment

You are allowed to submit your TMAs through the respective Regional Centres (RCs) only for courses marked **


Step 3: Selecting the appropriate TMA - Select the appropriate TMA that you wish to submit

2. Click the “Browse� button to choose the file to submit. 1. Select the TMA to submit.


Step 4: Uploading and submitting the TMA file - Locate and select the file that you wish to submit on your computer and click the “Open” button - Confirm the file that you are about to submit and click the “Submit” button

1. Confirm the file name is correct.

2. Select the file and click “Open”. 3. Click on the “Submit” button.


Step 5: Confirming the submission of the TMA file - Read the message box to confirm the file that you are about to submit is correct and click the “OK” button.

1. Reconfirm the file that you need to submit.

2. Click on the “OK” button to submit. Reminder: 1. Select the TMA to submit.

You have to use this naming convention when you submit your TMAs: <class code>_<student ID>_TMA<no>. For example: 3LSS1_034130012_TMA1


Step 5: Confirming the submission of the TMA file - A date and time indicating that your submission is successful will appear

Step 6: Viewing the TMA result - Click on the “Assignment Status” tab - Click on the “Grade details” to view your grade

Step 7: Downloading the marked TMA

Click on the file name to download the individual TMA.

Click on the “Extension Request” tab to display the e-“T-EX” form.

Select the course.

Select the TMA for which you are requesting submission extension.

Select the duration of the extension.

Upload a supporting document, e.g., a medical certificate (optional).

Give the reason(s) for your request.

Finally, click on the “Submit” button.

The status of the extension application is shown here. You can also view the feedback on the extension application at “Assignment Status” tab, click on the “Extension Request” status, and then click on “_ days Approved” at the e“T-EX” form.


Step 9: Re-submission Request 1. Click on the “Resubmission Request” tab to display the e-“TRS” form. 2. Read the instructions carefully. 3. Select the course and assignment for which you are requesting for re-submission. 4. Give the reason(s) for your request.

5. Finally, click the “Submit” button.

The status of your re-submission request application is shown here. You can also click on the “Resubmission request” status at “Assignment Status” tab to see the approval remark at the e-“T-EX” form.

Important:

Once your “Re-submission request” has been approved by your Course Coordinator, you will only have 2 calendar days from the date of approval to re-submit your TMA into the OAS.

Easy to retrieve. When you do not know the book, just type in a word/phrase/ sentence and a whole list of books on the related topic will be displayed .

Internet Search Strategies

Common internet search engines: Yahoo; Google; Exalead; etc. Meta search engines : Kartoo; Dogpile; etc. Subject directories websites. A subject directory is an online database of web sites and online information set up by subject and category. Newsgroups Ask a question : ask Yahoo ; ask Jeeves Blogs
