Introduction Many companies create for their own Operative System a group of applications (suites) where the user can meet your needs. Talking specifically of Microsoft Inc. they have created what we called “Microsoft Office Suite”. Many of them are included when you buy the Microsoft OS which are the most common and used in offices, works and school projects. On the other hand we have Apache Software Foundation that have created “Apache OpenOffice Suite” and it has basically the same function of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Office Suites Based on the definition of the Computer Desktop Encyclopedia an office suite is a set of business applications with the same style of user interfaces that is sold as a single product.

For a better definition, an application suite is a group of programs sold as a package to solve common problems, such as math and graphics creation accounts. Word, Excel and PowerPoint are the most popular suites of Microsoft Office, followed by Access, Outlook, OneNote and Publisher that are different kind of versions for more specific uses.

Apache OpenOffice Suite Apache OpenOffice is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It products are: Writer: It is simple enough for a quick memo, yet powerful enough to create complete books with contents, diagrams, indexes, etc. You're free to concentrate on your ideas while Writer makes them look great.

Calc: It is the spreadsheet application you've always wanted for creating graphs and diagrams. It is intuitive and easy to learn.

Impress: It is a truly outstanding tool for creating effective multimedia presentations. Your presentations will stand out with 2D and 3D clip art, special effects, animation, and high-impact drawing tools.

Base: It is designed to meet the needs of a broad array of users, from tracking personal CD collections, to producing corporate monthly departmental sales reports. It offers wizards to help users new to database design to create Tables, Queries, Forms and Reports, along with a set of predefined table definitions for tracking Assets, Customers, Sales Orders and Invoices.

Math: It is most commonly used as an equation editor for text documents, but it can also be used with other types of documents or stand-alone. When used inside Writer, the equation is treated as an object inside the text document. It’s a standalone equation editor that can also insert formulas as objects into Writer.

Microsoft Office Suite Microsoft Office Suite is a collection of software applications made by Microsoft Inc. There are a number of different office suites to suit a variety of computer users. These suites are priced based on the number of applications that are included. These are the most common suites: Word is the most widely known application included in Microsoft Office Suite. It is a word processing application that includes a variety of tools to help create documents.

Excel is another popular application. It is used to create spreadsheets and includes tools to help analyze the data.

Power Point in addition to creating slide show presentations can be used to create interactive presentations.

Access is user-friendly database software used by individuals and companies. An Access user can store, query, report and manipulate data in the database.
