The Projects Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education “Lairn” is a project that resulted from Merit360 2016. Lairn aims to create a life skills education programme that can be delivered through radio. Using radio waves to teach kids values education will bridge the gap between traditional approaches of learning and low literacy rate. This will lead to the development of their individual self and also benefit the community. The easy to replicate model makes it accessible worldwide.

Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality Lack of access to sanitary products and continued stigma surrounding menstruation contribute to 62 million girls being out of school globally. Keeper is a social enterprise that tackles this, based on a revenue model deriving income from co-branded female and male hygiene products. This, plus charitable contributions, will be invested in projects with partner NGOs in South Sudan, Nepal and Nigeria tackling menstrual health issues.

Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate action The Climate Express (TCE) is a climate resiliency service on wheels. TCE assembles teams made up of climate scientists, agricultural experts, NGO representatives, engineers, translators, young climate advocates and educators on buses to reach frontline communities vulnerable to climate change. They design and deliver workshops, training sessions and on-the-ground projects tackling relevant challenges to each community.

Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life below water Sealution is a community tied together through gamification, providing ‘edutainment’ to change individual’s behaviour towards a more responsible handling of plastic waste. The community is built on challenges of three types: ‘quite’, ‘loud’ and ‘active’. Quiet challenges include the completion of simple online games or making videos. Loud are self-initiated events such as organizing seminars. Active require actions to be completed.

United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Over the last years, UNWTO has been working hard on integrating sustainability in traveling. They have developed a “Tips For Responsible Tourism” document that they are looking to transform into an interactive ‘gamification’ app. During the hackathon, a group of World Meriters, a group of creatives and developers will work on a plan and a project for UNWTO, together with representatives from the organisation.

the World Merit World Cup World Merit was founded on challenging global youth to take action. Hundreds of thousands of young global citizens have gained experience from meaningful competition in the past 5 years. Our global community understands that we have to work beyond beliefs and borders but the camaraderie and team bonding that comes from good natured competition, especially when linked to impacting the Sustainable Development Goals, is a way to mobilize on a global level. The World Merit World Cup is our flagship global competition.

Starting with World Leaders in Estoril, Portugal, and ending with the teams who make the prestigious final convening in Morocco. The work World Cup Teams do for the SDGs will be rewarded and held up as an example for the upcoming generation.

Team captains of all World Cup teams meet in Estoril, Portugal in May for the kick start and final teams will eventually meet once more in Morocco in December for the play-off.

24 August - 2 September WorldMerit360, New York city, USA Merit360.org

Overview WorldMerit360 is the most significant opportunity to change the world for the better. Focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we invite passionate individuals between the ages of 18-35 to develop a strategy which will lead and inspire a global community to take action and create change. History We held our first inaugural flagship event WorldMerit360 in August 2016 bringing together 360 of our top leaders to address the SDGs. People from 85 different countries came together, to work in 17 teams, one for each Global Goal, and develop actions plans to help drive change. From start up ideas to public awareness campaigns, the plans were presented at the United Nations HQ in New York on the final day of the program.
