Task  Over the holiday we would like you to take a series of photographs on a single theme o if you are on holiday on the coast you may want to explore the theme of harbours. o alternatively you could decide to look at aspects of architecture such as doorways in churches. o you could choose to photograph your family and friends in different settings and activities o you might want to photograph famous places you visit in foreign cities The choice is yours the main thing is that you use first hand observation and that you are interested in what you pick. This is your opportunity to get interested in something over a prolonged period of time and to create an interesting resource. (AO3)  Choose your favourite five photographs and make drawings from these. Use as wide variety of materials as you have available at home. (AO3 & 2)  Plan to visit some galleries. These might be in Derby or they might be in places you visit on holiday. Look for artists who are interested in the same things that you have photographed. Task  You have been given three poems from the anthology Moon on the tides.  Read and annotate the poems from the cluster your teacher chooses to study with you in the Autumn term.  Complete the revision grids for Ethics in preparation for revision at the end of Year 11.  Create a profile on Richard Dawkins with specific focus on his views about: religion; morality; life after death; and origins of the universe/humanity.  Complete a series of short essay responses to questions about secularism and the role of religion today  Revise topics learnt during Year 10 and complete a past paper.  Create your own detailed case study of a river of your choice (you have been supplied with a worksheet with clear instructions for the completion of this task).  Complete a test where you can use your notes to answer questions reviewing your recent work on the water cycle, storm hydrographs and factors affecting hydrographs. This work is due in the first lesson back and will be assessed by the Miss Tordoff.  Complete an investigation into UK flood events, researching and presenting the information using a series of enquiry questions. This work is due in the first lesson back and will be peer assessed by your fellow students, before being used for display.  Read the article about the Blue Nile Falls in Ethiopia. Highlight the key points and annotate your ideas and thoughts onto the sheet. Then, look at the small A5 sheet and do the case study question refer to the Blue Nile Falls.  Research the Boscastle Flood 2004. Create a factsheet including the following points; geology, river names, location, causes, SEEP effects, etc.  Revise all of your Year 10 Geography work for a practice exam on the first lesson back in September.  All of this work is due in the first lesson back.  Spend time thinking about the playing pieces for your game product. To make them, you can use card and/or coloured acrylic (it is about 3mm thick and has to be stuck together with Tensol adhesive). They should be either flat counters (best cut on the laser cutter) or in two pieces that are glued together to form a base and an upright section (perhaps the upright can be shaped to suit your theme). If the upright is made from card, think about the graphics that could go on them.  On an A4 page, produce a range of ideas (five or more), that are annotated with manufacturing/material notes. Evaluate the designs and conclude which one you will go onto make (and why).  Create a Plan of how it will be made - suggest it is about six or seven steps (this is an ideal time to use the CAD/CAM equipment in your project if you have not yet done so).  It is also worthwhile, reading your Year10 theory notes to recap. Try to use the mock paper and identify any areas that you will want to cover again.

Task  In October you will start learning about China and very soon after that you will write your Controlled Assessment. You need to have several different articles for newspapers and websites. You cannot write your assessment without these. The Controlled Assessment is worth 25% so these are marks that you can throw away. So use your time during the summer holidays to get some articles.  Complete a full Linear exam paper.  On the front of the paper complete a self-assessment ‘need list’ including questions you found difficult and questions you were confident with.  Work on those questions you found difficult that you have listed in your ‘needs’ using your revision guide.  Any ‘needs’ you couldn’t deal with will be followed up by your teacher in September.  Compile a diary account of 2 weeks over the summer holidays, making use of a full range of verbs in past and future tense (not just in the ‘I’ form but also in the ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘we and ‘they’ forms), including connectives, opinions and more complex structures.  Revise all vocabulary lists from the topics studied during Year 10.  Prepare a solo piece ready for recording first week back. Concentrate on the accuracy and include dynamics and expression.  Listen to at least three pieces from the classical period and write a report on the chosen pieces. What instruments are heard? Form and Structure of the piece. Keys and noticeable key changes.  Choose an artist whose career has spanned a number of decades – Madonna/Kylie/Michael Jackson. Create a portfolio of their image changes throughout their career and explain how it is closely linked to the music they have produced.  Practise and perform as many practical activities as possible during the holiday. This may include Winter activites that you will be performing from September. These include Football, Basketball, Swimming and Badminton.  Maintain your physical fitness levels by testing yourself on: a) Coopers 12 min run b) 3 second sprint test  Read through your GCSE PE Target Setting sheet and focus on your specific targets ready for September.  Keep a log of your exercise during the holiday. Ensure that you exercise at least 3 times per week in order to return physically prepared to perform well in your first practical assessment. The exercise may focus on either skills or physical fitness.  Complete the examination questions about sustainability, try to give as full answers as possible.  Produce sketches for 6 ideas for your gadget tidy/docking station, the ideas should be 3-d sketches and include details of materials you might use and methods of construction. You will begin the design section of your controlled assessment when you return in September – you may end up producing other ideas but returning with some ideas will help your idea development
