Allestree Woodlands School School news for Friday 26th April 2013 Dear Parents and Carers We are the champions! Many congratulations to our team of Year Girls who won the n Power Under 13 National League Cup. The eight girls represented Derby County Football Club in this national competition. The final was played at Wembley on Sunday 7th April and our team beat a team representing Gillingham FC. The final score was 0-0 after extra time with Woodlands winning 2-1 in the penalty shoot-out! This is a fantastic achievement and we have been celebrating their success ever since! Congratulations also go to Bradley Moore in Year 10. Last week Bradley completed the biggest win of his golfing adventure so far, by winning the McEvoy Trophy – at the age of just 15! The McEvoy Trophy, known as the first of the season’s “junior majors” is the event that England selectors look to when shaping their European and World Championship squads! It is open to the best under 18 players in the country! I do hope you had a great Easter Holiday which does seem a long time ago now. We have changed our Internet Service Provider since March. We did have a few teething troubles during the first week back but I am happy to say that the new system is now working. Next Friday 3rd May is a staff training day so the school will be closed to students. We will also be closed on Monday 6th May for the May Day Bank holiday. Students return to school on Tuesday 7th May. Assemblies this week have been led by the school Jazz Band. They have put on excellent performances and have given us all a real lift at the start of each day. Many congratulations to all involved. If you would like your child to get involved in music at the school then please contact Mrs Smith, Head of Music. Examinations. Well done to students in Years 9 and 10 who have been taking formal school based tests during the past week. These continue next week as well. The external GCSE and A level exam season starts very soon. Full details about the exam timetable and exam regulations can be found on the school website. Dates for your diary th

Free School Meals It is really important for the school to know who all of the Free School Meal (FSM) students are. Whatever information we receive from parents or carers is confidential and students who take free school meals are not identified in any way as all meals are monitored using the ‘finger machine'. No cash is exchanged. If you think your child could be entitled to Free School Meals, please contact the school in any way that you feel is most comfortable for you. We are really keen that parents take up this entitlement so we would really appreciate a prompt response.

Wise Pay In the same way that we wish to move to paperless communications we are making similar moves to have a cashless environment in the school. We encourage all parents and Carers to use our school on-line payment system called ‘Wise Pay’ for payment of trips and other school activities or equipment. Details of how to do this can be found on the school website on: www.woodlands.derby.sch.uk or by contacting the school on 01332 551912 or by email: the.office@woodlands.derby.sch.uk

School website Please go to the school’s website at www.woodlands.derby.sch.uk for information about the school, or you can follow us on Twitter (@woodlands_derby) for daily updates.
