Dear Parents and Carers, Students, Governors and Members of Staff Welcome to this week’s edition of our school’s newsletter SARA DELGAUDIO

Our very lovely Mrs Sara Delgaudio is leaving Allestree Woodlands this week, to enter the wonderful world of being a Mom and to move back to her much loved Devon. Mrs Delgaudio became our Assistant Head Teacher along with Head of 6th Form in 2015. She has over seen a significant increase in 6th formers since 2015 and prefers to approach each student as an individual to gain their full potential for their future. The over all feelings of the school is what a kind and caring person Mrs Delgaudio is with a great sense of humour. She will be sadly missed at Woodlands by staff and students.

We do wish her every happiness for her future!!

ALLESTREE WOODLANDS SCHOOL CARDIAC RISK AWARENESS IN THE YOUNG

We had the sad news on the 7th December 2017, Seth Woolley a previous student of Allestree Woodlands, sadly passed away. This has left an impact on many of our students and staff, especially with how young Seth was. To bring attention to everyone, the signs and symptoms of Cardiac Risk in the Young, one of our sixth form students Mia Carey-Parsons, held an assembly each morning this week to illustrate how we can all be vigilant .

SPORTS RELIEF 2018 This year Allestree Woodlands were able to raise the amazing amount of £2157.78 for Sports Relief. Staff and students ran or walked a mile around school and organised cake and sweet stalls . Year 7 also arranged the “Business Education Project” which we featured in the 4th May Newsletter. Many thanks again to all staff and students who were able to take part.

ALLESTREE WOODLANDS SCHOOL YEAR 13 ROUNDERS

As a celebration for the end of Year 13, the students played a rounders tournament on Friday 11th May. It was played in a competitive and fair manner with a splash of colour thrown in for good measure. Well done to the blue team who were victorious on the day.

ALLESTREE WOODLANDS SCHOOL YEAR 10 BUDDHIST TEMPLE TRIP

On Monday 14th April, a group of year 10 students who are studying Philosophy and Ethics for their GCSE’s, visited the Kadampa Buddhist Meditation Centre in Etwall.

The students were given a tour of the centre and its beautiful grounds, along with a talk about how this Tibetan tradition of Buddhism came to the UK and had an opportunity to try some Buddhist meditation.
