7th September 2018 Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the new school year! I hope you had a good summer break. Thank you for the way you have prepared your youngsters for the start of school. We have been really impressed by the high standard of uniform in all our students and for the positive attitude they have all displayed in these first few days of the new term.

Improved GCSE and A level exam results I know you share my disappointment in the Ofsted judgement we received in July this year. In my letter to you when the report was published, I stated that ‘I am confident that this summer’s GCSE and A level results will be better than last year’. I am delighted to say that our GCSE and A level exam results overall are much better than last year. We will publish provisional details of our results on our website very soon. You will also be able to see full details of our exam results when the Department for Education publishes the school performance tables later this year. New School Year message to all students: In assemblies this week, I have spoken to all students about the ingredients for their success as follows:      

Good behaviour at all times – in school, and to and from school Treat everyone properly – with kindness and respect Maximise attendance and punctuality at school Be organised – come to school each day with everything you need Work hard in all lessons Enjoy getting stuck – learn from your mistakes and keep trying

Please support your children, and the school, in making sure they have these good and essential characteristics. Farewell to our caretaker – Mr Barry Edgar We said farewell to our long serving caretaker during the holidays. Mr Edgar has been at Woodlands since 2003. We wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.

Parking at the end of school – polite request: As you know, it gets very congested outside school at the end of the school day. Arrange to pick them up somewhere away from school and please park safely, legally and considerately outside school and in the roads around the school.

Headteacher’s Surgery: I am available to meet Parents/Carers each Wednesday from 5:15pm—6pm. If you are able, please make an appointment by contacting Kate Challands on 01332 551921.

Contact Details: Please keep your contact details up to date by ensuring that the school office has the most current contact details for you, including email addresses and mobile telephone numbers. And finally: This new academic year will be extremely important for your son or daughter as they embark on the next stage of their education here at Allestree Woodlands School. All of us here will work hard to ensure they are as successful as possible. I look forward to receiving your continuing support in this great endeavour. Yours faithfully,

Headteacher
