30th Anniversary SCI://TECH Exposition ’s SCI://TECH time! For the 30th year, Education for Tomorrow Alliance and school partners will be offering hands-on STEM learning with the support of community volunteers. What started as a group of volunteers judging several dozen science fair projects in the gym of then McCullough High School, has grown into four weekends of 13 K-12 STEM activities at locations throughout Montgomery County. Events kick off on January 24 and run through February 22. Volunteers still support each SCI://TECH event, and the greatest need in 2020 is for science fair judges on Friday, January 31 for the Chevron Phillips Chemical Senior High and Entergy Junior High Science Fairs. Judging does not require a background in science, but rather a willingness to talk with students. Volunteers can sign up at efta-us.org/scitech for 7:45 am, 9:30 am or 2:00 pm shifts. Another highlight of SCI://TECH is Expo Day on Saturday, February 1! Kids of all ages have the opportunity to learn by doing at the Huntsman Elementary Science Festival. How do magnets work? What makes paper airplanes fly? Free and open to the public, the festival fills the Lone Star Convention Center with hands-on experiments led by K-4 students that answer these questions and more! The festival is open from 10 am to 4 pm. With the support of educators, businesses, and community volunteers, SCI://TECH programming engages 5,000 students each year. Get involved as a volunteer or visitor! To learn about volunteer opportunities or for a full 2020 SCI://TECH event list, visit efta-us.org/scitech. Education for Tomorrow Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting the business and education communities in Montgomery County, Texas. With innovative programs focused on science, technology and career preparation, EfTA is the portal through which business leaders can access and strengthen local education.

Whether it’s a birthday party, bachelor or bachelorette party, corporate events, date nights, or just a night out with friends, everyone will have a great time. They make socializing a sport through a blend of technology and entertainment – and that’s just the game!

It is our belief that a community influenced by young professionals is a community that attracts and entertains them. Core to The Chamber’s Young Professionals Network’s strategic agenda is the belief that the more informed, involved and networked young professionals are, the most influence they have on The Woodlands area community. Through the Young Professionals Network, members ages 21 to 39, have the opportunity to meet people you would never otherwise have met, and learn about businesses they never would have known about and participate in events that never would have existed. You will have access to numerous business programs and learn about the happenings in the community that will have an impact on your life.

Community Relations Team CRT Goes

Green and Celebrates America Recycles Day The Community Relations Team was proud to celebrate America Recycles Day and support The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N as they hosted this year’s 3R Bazaar where shoppers and participants “recycled beyond the ordinary.” The Woodlands Grassroots Environmental Education Network (The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N.), who has been active in the Montgomery County, Texas area since 1989, promotes natural resource conservation, recycling, solid waste reduction, safe and sensible care of our air and water resources, and other responsible actions that protect the environment and its inhabitants.

The Diplomat Team of the Month Goofy Team Honored in November

Pictured from the Goofy team is Corinne Coulter, Education for Tomorrow Alliance; Michelle O’Rourke, United Way of Greater Houston – Montgomery County Regional Center; Janet Skeels, Youngevity; and Paul Miranda, Thryv. Not pictured is Amber Sickafoose with The Woodlands Country Club – Palmer Course.

If you have attended any of The Chamber’s Business Connection events, you have seen our Diplomats in action. This dedicated team of volunteers help The Chamber with their member outreach. They are the friendly faces eager to help you get connected. Shoppers received an exclusive reusable bag to tote while shopping local artists and their masterpieces featuring re-purposed materials. Patrons enjoyed live music, enjoyed games and activities, shopping recycled goods and learned about free and easy ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Visit thewoodlandsgreen.org to learn more.

Family Promise partners with local churches to offer a place for homeless families to stay Sunday to Sunday. Host churches provide a quick easy breakfast and a shared buffet style dinner for up to four families with children. Weeks we don’t have a host church we have to put the families in a hotel in Conroe and have meals brought in. This isolates the family from the experience of following guidelines, being with others socially and hearing from positive role models. Are you interested in finding out about how you, your church, or your organization can assist homeless families with children? Email Marilyn@FamilyPromiseofMC.org.
