Oxford Success

Riverbank Flood Protection

We are delighted to announce that two of our students have received offers following the final Oxbridge application decisions: Lucy, to read English Language and Literature at Regent's Park College, Oxford and Sebastian to read Physics at Exeter College, Oxford.

Our local community is important to our school. Throughout the year a team from school including a number of boarders have been clearing invasive Himalayan Balsam weed from the banks with the aim of reducing flooding. This Sunday, our team showed great commitment to this cause and were in good spirits despite the heavy rain. In Spring we plan to plant more beneficial species, such as willow and fruit trees, which can improve natural flood resistance.

National Honours Congratulations to Old Grovian Daniel Francis who has been enjoying playing football for Sierra Leone in The African Cup of Nations tournament.

Chinese New Year

Ice Skating Trip

Happy Chinese New Year! Our boarders enjoyed a delicious feast laid on by our brilliant catering team. Thank you for making the occasion so special for our community.

Our boarders enjoyed their ice skating trip last month. It was the first time on the ice for a few of them so they made use of the penguins to begin with. Maybe ice dancing at the next Winter Olympics?

Football Representation Great to see three of our boarders, Kian, David and Diego, representing the school together at a recent football tournament.

Great fun and all played in good spirit! A successful afternoon for their team with 5 wins, 1 draw and no losses.

David scored 6 goals, Kian scored 3 goals and Diego scored 3 goals.

Burns’ Night

Chilled out Sunday Afternoons

Our Boarders, particularly the international members, were a little bemused and surprised by one of the more quirky events on the British cultural calendar. On Tuesday 25th January, in the dining room, we treated them to our very own Burns’ Night.

As is tradition, the haggis was piped in, followed by a short presentation, including the Address to the Haggis and ending with the Selkirk Grace. The students then sampled the haggis, alongside their normal evening fare.

Our Miller House boarders have enjoyed some super chilled Sunday afternoons recently with Reverend Atkins.

Some crafting time a couple of weeks ago creating personal designs on their shopping totes and some team baking last Sunday making buns.

Happy Valentine’s Day Each girl in Miller House woke to their own origami rose this morning because Miller boarding is a place full of love. Our English teacher Ms Evers created them for every girl.

Mid Week Fun Miss Dudley’s ‘Hump Day Games’ started off as a one-off event when some of the girls were feeling a bit tired one Wednesday evening. Wednesday is often called ‘hump day’ as it marks the day that the next weekend is closer than the last one!

The evening was open to anyone in Miller House that wanted to take part and two equal teams were created. Points were scored form a few fun games such as; building the tallest tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows; bridges constructed using sweets and cocktail sticks; outfits from toilet rolls; skipping with a strawberry lace skipping rope; and some choice dance routines and a winning team was declared.

The event was enjoyed so much by Miller Girls, that they requested a second one!
