WOODHILL WEEKLY News from Woodhill School
Week: Thu 7th November
Dear Parents and Carers
I would like to invite parents and carers to attend a coffee morning with me on Monday 3rd December at 9.30 am. The informal session will give parents an opportunity to find out more about our plans for the future and updates since we met in September. I will give more reminders in subsequent newsletters and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Welcome back to the new school half term! It was lovely to see the children coming into school on Monday and I have to tell you they way KS2 children came into assembly was exemplary. They were a real credit to you and the school. This will be an exciting and an important half term for everyone at Woodhill and will define our school year. Our priority is to ensure all teaching is good and that lessons are as engaging as possible. Our planning topics all link to a ‘core text’ now and teachers have been working with staff from Rockliffe Manor Primary and Cardwell Primary to ensure we provide the best learning opportunities. To help us, it would be really great if parents could regularly ask children these three questions when you have time to talk about school:
Many thanks to you for visiting the school on the last Friday of the half term to see our learning displays and visit classrooms. We had lots of positive feedback about the visit including these comments: •
The classrooms look really wonderful and very stimulating for the children. As a parent I'm happy at the direction Woodhill is headed and that my children are finally getting the education they deserve
More on the walls to help children out in day to day learning
My son feels really happy with the current settings and teachings so thanks for all the hard work and keep it up. Am very impressed by what I saw today Keep it up!
1. What have you been learning today? 2. What do you need to do next to make your learning even better? 3. How do you know when you have been successful? During learning walks and discussions with children, we will be doing the same in school so that children really do connect their learning with their next learning steps. It would be great if you could support us with this.
Parent Conferences A reminder that parent conferences take place next week. Teachers have been in touch and sent letters to all parents. If you have not made an appointment to speak with your child’s teacher, please do so as soon as possible.
We also received some constructive feedback about things we need to do better. This included our organization of homework across the school and pupil behaviour. I have taken these comments back to the leadership team who will include these items for discussion during parent conferences.

As a Peer Mediator you have to be a responsible person with good behaviour. You have to look at ways to help other children. For example this week there was a boy that was upset in the playground. He didn’t have anyone to play with, so I got my friend Jayden and over to the boy and played with him. He was happy after that.

I enjoy being a peer mediator as I get to help children resolve their problems and conflicts. This week two children were arguing and I helped to solve the argument by using techniques I learnt in training.
